43. Kidnapped

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

“Are you ready Hun? “ Anna chirped beside me.

I really wish I was. Nodding, I briefly smiled at her just as her phone rang. A frown etched her face as she stared at her screen.

“It’s work,” she muttered.

“Go ahead and pick it up. It must be something urgent if they called you,” I smiled at her encouragingly watching her walk a few paces away from me.

I dipped my hands in my pocket allowing a deep breath to flow through my lips. Anna was a good woman and she deserved to have my full attention and yet for the past few days all I have been thinking about is Nicole. Yesterday William told me that I needed to divorce her and it should be no big deal to me, but why the hell was I finding it hard to do it? What was wrong with me? Since when did I go soft? Of course, the moment I first saw her in the bar.

“Hun, I’m really sorry but I can’t come with you,” Anna stated, a sad look pasted on her face.

“But why?”

“There is something really urgent I have to deal with otherwise the company will suffer a great loss. I promise to make it up to you,” she tried to smile despite her clear sadness.

“It’s okay. I get it but what about your father?”

“I’ll explain it to him. Actually let me go find him. Good bye Dominic and I’ll see you when you come back,” she kissed me before walking away.

Just great. How much fun could it be when I have to spend three days with Anna’s father? Groaning I ran a hand through my hair. My thoughts drifted to Nicole yet again. Why would William want me to give her a divorce? Did he want to marry her or something? On one hand I had a woman who loved me with all of her heart and on the other hand I was conflicted about divorcing a woman who never loved me at all. Why was I such a fucked up fellow?

“I’m sorry about Anna but there is a problem son. You were supposed to travel with my staff but since you are not part of the staff you’ll have to travel in a private jet with one of my favorite people, Miss Joyce,” a woman stepped from behind her as a wave of shock hit me.

What was Nicole doing here? And why the hell was he calling her Joyce?

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Mr. Valiente,” she smiled briefly as though she was meeting me for the first time.

I just nodded smiling back at her.

“Well, be careful my lady this one is a charmer. Now I’ll see both of you when we arrive in Kenya,” he smiled before walking away.

“What are you doing here Nicole?” I asked the moment we were sitting in the jet, which apparently belonged to her.

‘Well, the president is a good friend of mine as you can see and plus I really needed a break. I heard the sandy beaches there are exquisite,” she stated nonchalantly.

“Nicole what the hell is going on with you? Why are you even back in my life trying to turn everything upside down?”

“Really? Am I the one really trying to turn your life upside down? Or maybe it’s the fact that what you did to me is what is keeping you from moving on from me? So tell me how do you sleep through it Dominic knowing that you destroyed an innocent woman’s life without a second thought?” innocent my bloody foot.

“Let me see, innocent woman? No, you are nothing close to that Nicole. You are cheating, cold, brutal snake who I should never have invited in my life!’ I retorted feeling my anger rising ten folds.

“Oh am sorry Mr. Monster, I didn’t realize that I was a snake. But if you hadn’t taken me and married me then my life would still be great and I wouldn’t have to look at your son and see your face every single time!” a look of horror spread on her face.

“My son? So is that how we are going to play now?” I laughed.

‘You know what? I can’t deal with your stinking asshole attitude Dominic! I’m done. I need an official divorce,” she stated her face red with obvious anger.

“Fine. I have the papers already and all I need is your signature on it so we can start the legal proceedings once we are back to New York,” I replied.

“Ma’am?” We both raised our gaze to the young woman looking down at us.

“Yes Mary,” Niccole answered.

“He is awake,”

“Let me come and check on him,” Nicole walked away into the other cabin.

My son? Really? Didn’t she feel ashamed of that even after all these years? Pulling out a business magazine I began reading through it. Later I fell into a deep slumber and it being a long flight, I woke up several times but Nicole hadn’t come back. Once we arrived we were booked into the rooms next to each other but we were too tired to argue or even mind each other’s presence. After a good warm bath I fell asleep and for the first time in three years I never got a nightmare. I had no idea what time it was but I was woken up by the sound of the baby crying. Can’t Nicole just take care of her fucking baby? Grimacing, I pulled on a pair of shorts choosing to walk into her room through the connecting door. The baby was lying in his crib, with legs flailing around. Nicole wasn’t around and neither was the nurse. I wasn’t really a baby person so I just picked him up and walked back into my room.

I heard the door to Nicole’s room open and a few seconds later she was throwing around things. Since the baby was falling asleep, I didn’t want to make a move until he was fully asleep.

“Please just give me my baby back! I did everything you asked and you promised to keep my son away from all this,” she sounded hysteric.

Who was she talking to?
