Chapter 245: Drawing Drafts
Chapter 245: Drawing Drafts
Charlotte leaned into his embrace, a small smile tugging at her lips.
"Got it."
She knew he couldn't say no to her.
But several days went by.
Charlotte never felt that prying gaze again.
Whether she went to work at the office or picked up Miranda from school.
Everything was quiet. Nothing out of the ordinary.
It was as if whoever it was had completely vanished.
That evening after dinner.
Charlotte sat on the couch, looking at George with a hint of guilt.
"I'm sorry."
She scratched her head.
"Maybe I was just too sensitive that day and got it wrong. Nothing's happened these past few days, and I made you go through all that trouble for nothing."
George walked over and sat beside her, reaching out to ruffle her hair.
"Don't be silly."
He smiled.
"It's better that nothing happened."
"My guess is, since we noticed them that day, they don't dare make a move. They're lying low for now."
"That's exactly why we can't let our guard down. From now on, wherever you go, you need to stay alert, okay?"
Charlotte nodded.
"I understand."
She thought that would be the end of it.
But the next day when George came home from work, two women in black athletic wear followed him inside.
Both looked sharp and efficient.
Their eyes were keen, their posture ramrod straight—clearly well-trained professionals.
Charlotte was in the living room helping Miranda build with blocks when she saw them and froze.
"What's this?"
She looked up at George.
"I hired two bodyguards from a security company."
George explained, pointing to the taller one.
"This is Fallon. She'll be with you from now on. Wherever you go, she goes."
Then he gestured to the other, who looked more approachable.
"This is Flora. She'll be responsible for Miranda—school pickup and drop-off, outings, everything. She'll be with her."
Charlotte's brow furrowed immediately.
"Are you serious?"
She looked exasperated.
"You're making a mountain out of a molehill. I already said I probably just saw wrong that day."
"I don't need someone following me around. Just have them both watch Miranda. Her safety is what matters most."
"No way."
George's tone was firm.
"Miranda needs protection, and so do you."
"I've already briefed them. They won't interfere with your normal work or daily life. They'll just stay in the background and only step in if something actually happens."
"Just think of it as putting my mind at ease, okay?"
When he put it like that, what could Charlotte say?
Looking at George's resolute expression, she finally caved and nodded.
"Fine. They can stay."
George's face lit up instantly.
He reached out and pinched her cheek.
"That's my good girl."
Charlotte swatted his hand away, shooting him an embarrassed glare.
The two bodyguards nearby kept their eyes lowered, pretending they hadn't witnessed the exchange.
Meanwhile.
As night deepened.
A dark figure silently scaled the outer wall of George's villa.
The woman wore a black bodysuit, her face covered by a mask.
She expertly avoided the security cameras in the yard, climbing the drainpipe to the second floor and slipping through a window that hadn't been fully closed.
She landed without making a sound.
This was a place she'd lived in for several years.
The woman moved with practiced ease down the hallway to a room at the end, placing her hand on the doorknob and turning it gently.
Unlocked.
She pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The room's layout was exactly as Charlotte had left it.
Standing in the doorway, taking it all in, the woman couldn't help but smile.
The fact that everything remained unchanged meant what she was looking for was still here.
But as quickly as the smile came, her expression turned cold again.
The woman crouched down, crawling under the bed and reaching into the farthest corner.
Her fingertips brushed against a cold metal box. Her eyes lit up.
There it is.
She remembered—this was where Charlotte had hidden the design sketches.
She dragged the box out and opened it for a quick look.
Inside were neatly stacked design drafts and a notebook.
Flipping through them casually, her smile widened.
With these in hand, she'd like to see how Charlotte could possibly continue in the design world.
She closed the box and stuffed it into the bag she'd brought with her, then stood to leave.
When she reached the master bedroom door, her steps faltered.
The door was slightly ajar.
She pushed it open a crack and peered inside.
Everything was covered with dust cloths, as if no one had lived there in ages.
Of course.
After Charlotte left, George rarely stayed here anymore, did he?
Looking at the familiar furnishings, the woman's gaze softened, tinged with nostalgia.
She let out a quiet sigh and didn't linger.
Gently closing the master bedroom door, she turned and headed downstairs.
Just as she reached the front entrance, she heard the sound of a car approaching.
Her heart jumped. She quickly ducked behind a large tree by the door, holding her breath.
It was George's car.
The vehicle pulled smoothly to a stop in front of the villa. The door opened, and George stepped out.
He must have just come from the office—he was still in his suit.
His tie was loosened, and he raised a hand to rub his temples, looking tired.
Hidden behind the tree, the woman stared at his figure, her heart racing.
It had been so long since she'd seen him this close.
He was still the same as before—so handsome, so dazzling.
She watched as George pulled out his keys, unlocked the door, and went inside. The living room lights came on.
Only then did the woman slowly look away.
She stood behind the tree, watching for a while longer before letting out a soft sigh and retracing her steps to leave.
She didn't stop until she'd exited the residential community where the villa was located.
A passing car's headlights briefly illuminated her face.
It was Jennifer!
Jennifer pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
Someone answered after two rings.
"Did you get it?"
The voice on the other end was processed, making it impossible to tell if it was male or female.
"I got it."
Jennifer's voice carried a hint of triumph.
"All those design sketches she hid back then—they're all in my hands now."
"You said before that these could destroy Charlotte's reputation. You're sure about that?"
The person asked again.
A vicious smile curved Jennifer's lips as her fingers tightened around the metal box in her bag.
"Don't worry."
Her voice was ice-cold.
"Just do what I say, and I guarantee Charlotte will be completely kicked out of this industry. She'll never be able to stand beside George again."
"This time, I'll make sure she never recovers."
She hung up.
Jennifer looked back in the direction of the villa.
Her expression was sinister, as if she could already see her enemy on their knees begging for mercy.
Charlotte, George—just wait for her revenge!
Did they think they could throw her in prison and walk away unscathed?
Dream on!
