Chapter 89 89

Chapter 89 89
ADELINE
Scarlett was on the other side of the window, her hair flowing and forming a halo around her face in the best way possible. Despite everything I couldn’t lie that she was as stunning as stunning could get, but that didn’t mean I was going to overlook just how vile she was because of it.
Pretend, we have to cooperate for this to work. I had to remind myself because the only thing that came to mind in that moment was to roll down the windows and pull her head on it, maybe if she felt some pain, it would reset it some.
I forced out air through my lips, letting it come from within, from my lungs, out of my lips. After what felt like forever, I turned to Grayson.
“I hope she doesn’t have anything up her sleeves.” I said angrily, gesturing like crazy like I was actually saying something insulting out of anger towards him. It was for her benefit really, but a part of me wanted to actually yell at him, at her, at everybody, they all deserved a little talking to because why on earth would they let a pregnant woman be so stressed.
Grayson tried to reach for me, his face falling like he was hurt but the corner of his lips shuffled between tilting upwards and down. I couldn’t blame him, the whole thing was pure comedy and Scarlett seemed to be eating it right up before she rolled her eyes just when I pulled away from Grayson, like I didn’t want him touching me.
Without warning and making sure I didn’t give any sign that I wanted to, I pushed the car door hard, catching her straight in the gut as I unknowingly tried to get out of the car.
“Hey!” She screamed, throwing her hands up in the air, her face scrunched up in annoyance.
“So sorry. Didn’t see you there.” I didn’t bother hiding the smile on my face as I met her gaze. There was no pretending here. Everytime she was in pain from now on, I was going to enjoy it, thoroughly, and I wasn’t going to hide that. Something about making the entire thing believable? Yeah, that was why I was doing it, of course.
Her lips thinned as she glowered at me like I was the very reason for all the shit I was almost certain she was in that we still didn’t know the half of.
“Of course you didn’t.” She forced through gritted teeth. “Maybe some of that glass must have gotten in your eyes, you should get that checked.” She clipped, letting herself into the same seat I had just gotten off of, not even trying to be subtle about her plans to replace me. She paused halfway, turned to me and I swear it was like being trapped in a serpent’s gaze.
Chills ran down my spine, not out of fear or anything like that, but out of disgust. Why was she looking at me like she was planning to cut my body into parts and scatter it around the ends of the earth, never to be found again.
Her voice was icy as she spoke again, “And while you’re at it, maybe have that brain of yours checked too. You’re past due for a psychological examination.” She scoffed before sliding into the passenger seat and shutting the door with a loud slam.
Through the window, I could see her reach for Grayson’s hand, the hand that enveloped mine the the warmest grip not too long ago.
I knew it was all pretense, but when he let her hold him, lace their fingers just like ours have been barely five minutes ago, my gut twisted over itself. The green, ugly monster reared it’s ugly head as I watched her fawn over Grayson so openly, without any attempt to even come off as harmless to our relationship.
She was very much after Grayson and she didn’t care who saw it. Why would she? She was still married to him. If anyone were to ever question her actions, she had the legal proof to shut them up.
I knew Grayson didn’t care about her anymore. He had given me a full explanation of his plan and not once did he sound unsure, he didn’t even have any moment where he paused and was overtaken by guilt. So, when he said he was over her and it was all for show to get her out of our lives, I believed him. Even now, with Scarlett’s hand wrapped around his bicep, or as wrapped as it could be by her thin hand, I believed him.
As if he had heard my thoughts, his head lifted from her and his eyes fell on me, pleading. He wanted me to understand, needed me to, enough to beg, eventhough not with words, but with the part of him that couldn’t really tell a lie, his eyes.
All I could do was nod back because I couldn’t risk little miss home wrecker choosing that moment to glance at the side mirror and see me blowing him a kiss after angrily leaving his car.
Scarlett gushed over him, checked his face, his neck, his arms like she was actually worried he had gotten hurt after he vanished from wherever he must have taken her to be treated.
She leaned over the small compartment between the chairs, her lips puckered as if going for a kiss and that was my sign to get the fuck out of there. Pretend or not, I wasn’t sure how much my heart could really handle and I was not about to find out, especially not after the scare I have had with the baby.
I turned away and headed into the house without a word or trying to smash her head into the dashboard like I really wanted to. It would simply just be Justice for her pinning her deranged behaviour on me, but most of all, I hoped it would reset her brain enough to start acting like an actual human being.
My belly had become sizably round and had become some sort of hand rest. I rubbed it, my hand moved in circles as I managed step after step till I was through the front door.
“Addy!” Johnny’s elation greeted me the moment I stepped through the door and suddenly it didn’t even matter that Scarlett was trying to rape my husband out in the garage anymore. Johnny rushed up to me with open arms, his face beamed like the sun on its first sighting in the morning.
I couldn’t help the smile that slipped on my face as I met him halfway to pull him into a bear hug. This. This was the reason I was putting up with Scarlett’s bullshit. He was the reason I would suck it up and trust Grayson despite how he never seemed to put me in the loop of his decisions before now.
Scarlett needed to be cut off like the weed she was in the beautiful garden that was my life with Grayson and Johnny. I was going to make sure of it, but first, I needed to speak with Kris. She was an expert at digging up information about anyone who was anyone, especially dirt. Even if you weren’t anyone, Kris could find something about you with that phone of hers.
I would trust Grayson to handle it, but it’s not like I wouldn’t do something about it as well.
Just then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw it. A white rose on the centre table. One of my favorites. A single one with a thin heart shaped paper.
A shrill noise resonated in my head. On the outside, I was calm, just staring at a rose, but I was panicking. A white rose. The last time I got those was when h
e…how did he find me?! Again?! I had been very careful.
