Chapter 261 Emergency Contact Person
Chapter 261 Emergency Contact Person
Daisy quickly explained, "Master Curda, you've got it wrong! We're already divorced."
"Oh?" Patricia looked a bit surprised, though thinking about how the two of them interacted, she accepted this fact.
Her expression was complicated. "Still, I hope whatever's going on between you adults doesn't affect the children—or my class."
Daisy understood. "I won't bring anyone else next time. Felix and I are in a serious relationship, but we haven't figured everything out yet."
Patricia nodded.
Daisy hesitated, then added, "Though I can't promise the same for Vincent."
After saying this, Daisy turned around and found Felix standing not far behind her. She had no idea how long he'd been there.
Even though Felix had probably heard everything, she still repeated what the teacher had said and apologized.
Felix said gently, "It's okay."
It wasn't easy to bring up, but Daisy figured if Felix had overheard and she didn't come clean about it, it might lead to bigger misunderstandings and problems down the road.
So she spoke up.
Just as they were about to leave, she suddenly got a phone call. As she listened, her face went pale, and she gasped, "What did you say?!"
"What happened?" Felix asked.
Daisy's voice trembled. "Grandma fell. She has a sudden intracranial hemorrhage—they're trying to save her!"
The group rushed to the hospital.
What Daisy didn't expect was that shortly after she arrived, Vincent showed up too.
When she saw Vincent appear, looking travel-worn and urgent, she froze.
But Grandma was in the emergency room right now, so she didn't have time to wonder why Vincent was there. She hurried to ask the nurses about her condition.
Vincent stepped forward instead.
Felix, seeing how distraught Daisy was, put his arm around her shoulders and patted her gently, trying to ease her anxiety.
Simon couldn't make it because he had something going on, but Ella came.
When she saw this scene, she paused for a moment too.
After the doctor said Grandma's condition was stable, Ella noticed how Felix was protecting Daisy, and felt reassured.
Even a little vindicated.
Vincent's gaze landed on the arm Felix had draped over Daisy's shoulder.
Then he asked, "Need any help?"
Daisy was actually grateful he'd shown up.
She said, "The doctor said she's doing okay. We don't need anything right now."
After a pause, she asked, "Why are you here?"
Vincent said, "Just finished a business trip. The hospital called me, so I came."
Daisy asked, "Why would the hospital call you?"
Vincent replied, "Probably because I'm still listed as the emergency contact."
Back when the Hart family had been sick and hospitalized, Daisy would sometimes turn to him for help.
She'd ask him to pull strings, and that's probably when he'd been listed as the emergency contact.
Usually, though, Daisy was the one listed. Once they both realized their relationship wasn't going anywhere, she found it harder to ask him for help.
So she'd completely forgotten about it.
Felix looked at Vincent and suddenly smiled.
Would someone of Vincent's status really rush over right after a business trip just because his ex-wife's grandmother was hospitalized?
He wondered what the scene would've looked like if he hadn't come with Daisy today.
The wait felt endless. Over two hours later, Simon arrived.
Not long after, the emergency room doors finally opened. Everyone crowded forward, asking about her condition.
Fortunately, they'd gotten her there in time. Grandma's condition wasn't critical, but she needed to stay in the hospital for treatment.
After everyone followed the nurses to get Grandma settled in a room, they realized Vincent was still there.
Simon glanced at Daisy—his look said, 'What's going on here?'
Daisy shook her head, indicating she didn't know either.
Simon thought to himself that in the past, even when Vincent made time to show up, he'd always have to leave pretty quickly. Was he really this free today?
He'd been so busy during the divorce, and now look at him—all this spare time.
Daisy, though, wasn't paying much attention to that. She'd gotten to know plenty of people in the medical field by now. If she needed to pull strings, she didn't need Vincent's help.
So after the initial panic, she called an expert she knew and arranged everything methodically.
Once Dr. Wilbur, the hospital's most respected specialist, arrived, Vincent left.
Felix had offered to stay with Daisy, but she insisted he didn't need to. He had things to take care of, so he left too.
Later, Daisy learned during a conversation that someone had contacted Dr. Flynn even before she had.
It was Vincent.
Because Vincent had helped the Hart family through connections a few years ago, Dr. Wilbur wasn't surprised. He just smiled and said, "After all that drama in the news, I didn't expect you two to still be on such good terms."
Daisy paused, but didn't say anything.
The divorce wasn't something you explained to outsiders.
Maybe because she'd been so worried, Daisy didn't fall asleep until the early morning hours.
When she heard knocking, she woke up. Her first instinct was to check on Grandma. Once she confirmed everything was fine, she got up and opened the door.
She was a bit stunned to see who was outside.
It was Vincent and Luna.
Vincent said, "Luna was crying on the phone last night, saying she wanted to see Grandma."
As he spoke, he walked naturally into the room and set a food container on the table. "How's Grandma doing?"
"She responds when I call her, but she falls back asleep quickly. She talked in her sleep a few times during the night. The nurses checked—they said it's all normal." Daisy said.
Vincent nodded.
Luna leaned forward, trying to see Grandma, and called softly, "Great-grandmother..."
One had to get to work, the other to school—they left soon after.
Not long after they left, Grandma woke up.
Daisy breathed a sigh of relief.
That afternoon after school, Daisy was feeding Grandma dinner when someone knocked on the door again.
It was Vincent, bringing Luna again.
Daisy paused. "Is something wrong?"
Vincent said, "Nothing's wrong. Just came to check on Grandma. Luna misses you both."
He paused, then added, "Luna said she wants to stay at my place for the next few days."
"Sure, that way we won't have to trouble them." Daisy agreed.
Though if that was all he needed to say, Vincent didn't really need to bring Luna in person. He must really care about the child.
Daisy thought for a moment, then said, "It's flu season right now. If Luna misses us, we can video chat—she doesn't have to come in person. Just keep that in mind."
Vincent said okay.
