Chapter 14 Radiant and Full of Spirit
The car drove all the way, and silence filled the car through out theentire journey.
At first, Luna seemed secretly pleased that Daisy wasn't coddling her like usual. But later on, she felt an indescribable awkwardness. Several times she wanted to turn around and say something to her mom, but couldn't figure out what to say.
She could only play with the bunny in her arms by herself, occasionally glances at her mom's calm profile in the rearview mirror, then turning away with puffed-up cheeks in frustration.
Vincent kept a cold face the whole time, just focused on driving. He'd occasionally say a word or two to Luna, but as for Daisy, she was like cargo he'd loaded into the car.
People don't communicate with cargo, after all.
Daisy sat alone in the back seat, watching the street scenes flying backward outside the window, her heart gradually drowning in exhaustion.
The car pulled into that familiar old neighborhood and stopped in front of a small building covered with green vines.
As soon as they got out, Daisy's grandmother's signature booming voice came from inside the house. "Oh my! My precious Dais is finally here! Where's Luna? Let Great-grandma see her!"
A spry, white-haired old lady jogged out, her face blooming with smiles. She swept Luna, who had just gotten out of the car, into her arms and kissed her again and again. "Oh my little sweetheart, you've grown taller! Great-grandma missed you so much!"
Luna felt uncomfortable with this enthusiastic hug, and a hint of disgust showed on her face.
But the next second, that disgust vanished without a trace.
Like a magic trick, Grandma pulled out a gorgeous princess dress from behind her. Luna's eyes lit up, she grabbed it, and said happily, "Thank you, Great-grandma!"
"You're buying her clothes again. She doesn't need any more." Daisy walked forward, while Vincent stood behind them, carrying gifts and wine.
" I just love seeing my little Luna happy." Grandma smiled so wide her eyes crinkled, then looked at Vincent. "Vince is here too! Good that you came. Has work been busy lately?"
Vincent smiled faintly. "Not too bad. I figured Luna hadn't seen you for long, this was a perfect chance to bring her to visit you ."
"It's good you're back, Come in, everything's ready at home, we were just waiting for you all to come ."
They chatted and laughed as they headed inside the house .
Daisy glanced at Vincent with some surprise, not expecting him to still think of Grandma. A touch of gratitude showed in her eyes.
To avoid anyone noticing anything, she deliberately separated from him and took Grandma's arm. When Grandma's gaze fell and she saw Daisy's gauze-wrapped hand, her smile immediately froze. She held Daisy's wrist and cried out.
"Oh dear, what happened to your hand? How did it get hurt so badly? Does it hurt?"
"It's fine, Grandma. I accidentally bumped it during an experiment. Just a minor injury, almost healed." Daisy smiled reassuringly and changed the subject. "By the way, where's Uncle? Didn't you say he was back?"
"He's inside, inside! Just waiting for you all!" Grandma pulled Daisy inside while still going on about her hand. "Really, what kind of experiment is so dangerous? Vince isn't short on giving you money to spend. Being Mrs. Black is perfectly fine, why are you messing around with all this?"
Daisy smiled awkwardly. "I just can't sit still."
Inside the house, the aroma of food mixed with lively voices hit them.
Several people sat in the living room. Besides Grandpa, there were some unfamiliar young people with sharp demeanors—probably colleagues Uncle brought back.
And sitting on the main sofa was her uncle she hadn't seen in years, Simon Hart.
He wore a light gray cashmere sweater and gold-rimmed glasses. Compared to be gentle, refined young man in her memory, he now had more of a mature scholar's air about him.
Seeing Daisy come in, he immediately stood up with a warm smile on his face. "Dais, you're here."
"Uncle."
After so many years, Daisy couldn't help feeling her nose tingle. She walked over quickly.
Simon gently patted her shoulder. His gaze fell on the gauze on her hand, his brow furrowing slightly, but he quickly returned to normal, his tone still gentle. "You've grown up!"
"Come sit, we were just waiting for you all to start eating."
He looked at Vincent and nodded politely but distantly. "Mr. Black, please sit."
His manner was courteous, but carried an awkward sense of distance.
This wasn't surprising. Back then, Simon had a project at a critical stage and desperately needed funding. He approached Vincent for investment—and saw no reason Vincent would refuse.
Professionally speaking, the project was entering the crucial final stage. Given its prospects, investing at that point might not yield high returns, but there was no way to lose money either.
Personally, Daisy was already engaged to Vincent at that time. Even setting aside the project, he was Daisy's own uncle. What harm could there be in helping his wife's family? Besides, that amount of money was nothing to Black Group.
But Vincent still refused, without even giving a decent reason.
Later the project was shelved. Simon went abroad to study, struggled for years to fill that funding gap, restarted the project, and quickly recovered.
Although many years had passed, Simon could never forget that incident.
Vincent didn't seem bothered by it. He sat down directly, nodded slightly, and greeted everyone at the table one by one.
During the meal, the conversation naturally revolved around Simon's return and work. As they talked, the topic shifted to Daisy.
Simon was very interested in the matter she was researching and asked many questions during the meal.
Vincent didn't speak the whole time, silently eating his food, but his gaze kept falling on Daisy's face.
He watched her animated expression as she talked knowledgeably about her field, as if she'd become a completely different person.
In their six years of marriage, she had never shown such an expression—focused, with eyes that seemed to shine with light, making her whole person seem much more alive.
Watching this Daisy, Vincent suddenly felt a strange sensation crashing through his chest.
That indescribable feeling made him irritable.
And when Simon looked at her with undisguised appreciation and encouragement, it made him feel even more annoyed.
Just then, Simon put down his utensils and looked at Daisy seriously. "Dais, your research direction has tremendous prospects, especially in precision medicine and minimally invasive surgery."
"My team abroad also works with related technology. This time back, besides the company projects, I'm personally interested in making an investment."
Under Daisy's surprised gaze, Simon continued. "With your abilities, you could absolutely run an independent small lab with concentrated resources. If you're interested, Uncle can help connect you with people. Startup funding and networking resources won't be a problem."
As soon as he said this, the table fell silent for a moment.
Grandma and Grandpa were naturally so happy they couldn't stop smiling, saying how wonderful it was.
Those young people also expressed interest in joining the project.
"I wonder what Mr. Black would think about this?" Simon suddenly asked.
