Chapter 89 He Stared at Cordelia's Photo for a Long Time, Looking a Little Dazed

Chapter 89 He Stared at Cordelia's Photo for a Long Time, Looking a Little Dazed

After blocking Janet, Cordelia headed downstairs.

Allegra was setting breakfast on the table. When she saw Cordelia sit down, she quickly poured a cup of hot milk and handed it to her.

Cordelia took it and casually asked, "Did the password get changed?"

Allegra nodded. "Yeah, Mr. Stone changed it himself."

Cordelia felt relieved and took a small sip of the milk.

Donald was exercising outside in the yard. After a while, he came in with a box of fruit and handed it to Allegra.

Allegra opened the box and was immediately captivated by the vibrant colors. "Are these Ruby Red grapes?"

Since Cordelia liked grapes, Allegra had been keeping an eye on various grape varieties online.

Donald, not being familiar with such things, shrugged. "I don't know. Alaric had Robert bring them over, said they were just flown in and sent straight to Shadowpine for Cordelia."

Allegra glanced cautiously at Cordelia, who was eating breakfast in the dining room, and whispered, "Cordelia and Mr. Hughes seem to be having a bit of a tiff."

Donald also looked at Cordelia and sighed softly. Although Cordelia was gentle, she was much more stubborn than Evelyn. Once she made up her mind, it was hard to change it.

"Don't bother telling her."

Allegra nodded and took the grapes to the kitchen to wash them, then looked up the price out of curiosity. Seeing the price, she gasped and handled the grapes even more carefully.

After breakfast, Cordelia moved to the living room and picked up a medical book to read. Allegra brought the grapes over and set them down beside her. "Cordelia, here's today's fruit."

Cordelia glanced at the grapes and nodded, picking one up and popping it into her mouth. "These grapes taste way better than the ones before. What variety are they? Let's just get these from now on."

Allegra smiled and said nothing, while Donald, sitting nearby and fiddling with chess pieces, nodded. "Sure thing."

Cordelia continued reading, occasionally eating a grape. Donald snapped a photo of her and sent it to Alaric with a message: [She says the grapes taste great.]

Alaric, who had spent the night working in his study after leaving The Stone Manor, opened the message and stared at the photo for a long time.

In the photo, Cordelia was sitting on the couch, holding a book in one hand and a grape near her lips with the other. Despite her bare face, her lips had a rosy tint, making her look like a college student.

Alaric saved the photo and replied to Donald: [If she likes them, I'll have Robert deliver them daily.]

Donald responded: [Got it.]

After Allegra finished clearing the table, she saw that Cordelia had eaten all the grapes. Cordelia asked, "Allegra, are there any more of these grapes?"

Allegra nodded. "Yeah, there's one more bunch. I'll wash them for you."

Cordelia acknowledged and went back to her book. Allegra, noting Cordelia's calm reaction, guessed that she probably didn't know how expensive the grapes were. The bunch Cordelia had just eaten cost ten thousand dollars.

In the following days, Allegra received fruit deliveries from Robert daily. She went from being shocked to getting used to it.

"Once Cordelia's baby is born, their eyes will be big and round," Allegra commented as she placed the grapes beside Cordelia.

Cordelia smiled softly. "I hope so."

Although there was no scientific basis for this, Cordelia still hoped her child would have big, beautiful eyes.

Her phone rang. Seeing an unfamiliar number, she hesitated but answered, "Hello, this is Cordelia."

"Hi, Dr. Stone, this is Amy."

The voice on the other end was small and somewhat guilty. Cordelia didn't recognize the voice or the name, assuming it was a patient's family member. "I'm sorry, I don't remember which patient you're related to. Do you have a question about a patient?"

Amy paused for a long time. She hadn't expected the online scandal to cause such a stir, and now the Hughes Group was suing her, yet the person involved didn't even know who she was. "I'm the reporter who exposed the video of you and Mr. Hughes."

Cordelia raised an eyebrow, recalling that Evelyn had mentioned this reporter was friends with Janet.

Amy, sensing Cordelia's silence, took a deep breath and cautiously spoke. "Dr. Stone, I called to apologize. I misunderstood your relationship with Mr. Hughes."

Cordelia cut her off. "If you have any issues, contact Barry directly."

Cordelia hung up and set her phone aside, her expression darkening. Allegra noticed and asked, "What's wrong, Cordelia?"

Cordelia paused, realizing her emotions were showing, and composed herself. "Nothing."

She picked up her phone again and spoke to Allegra, "I want to schedule a check-up at the hospital tomorrow. If everything's fine, we'll prepare to leave for Astoria."

Allegra, seeing Cordelia's determination, nodded. "Okay."

Cordelia called Hannah, who answered quickly. "What's up? Want to go shopping?"

Cordelia had been resting at home, so Hannah thought she might be bored. "No, I want to come in for a check-up tomorrow. If everything's fine, I want to leave the country soon."

Hannah paused, surprised. She thought Cordelia had given up on leaving, especially since her relationship with Alaric seemed to be improving. "Why the sudden rush to leave?"

Cordelia sighed, unsure how to explain. "Just help me arrange it."

Hannah didn't press further. "Alright. But since your identity has been exposed, coming during the day might attract attention. Come tomorrow night; I'll be on duty."

Cordelia hesitated but agreed. "Okay, I'll come tomorrow night."

With Alaric closely monitoring her, it was crucial that her pregnancy remained a secret.
