Chapter 63 He Is Quite Reliable at Critical Moments

Chapter 63 He Is Quite Reliable at Critical Moments

Hannah had heard about the drama on the internet and cursed Everett angrily.

How could so much happen in just a few days at the hospital?

Hannah found Cordelia packing her things in her locker.

She walked over and sighed.

"Mr. Hughes really comes through when it counts. He's been coming to the hospital so often lately, probably just to see you. Maybe you should reconsider the divorce."

Hannah whispered.

Cordelia raised an eyebrow and replied calmly, "The divorce papers are already signed."

Hannah was stunned.

"Mr. Hughes signed them too? When did this happen?"

Cordelia nodded.

"Yeah, he signed them. Almost a week ago."

Hannah paused, unable to understand the dynamic between Cordelia and Alaric.

Before the divorce, Alaric rarely ever brought Cordelia to the hospital. Now, after the divorce, he was driving her every day.

She thought their relationship had improved, but it turned out they had already signed the divorce papers.

Hannah was bewildered.

The lifestyle of the wealthy was truly hard to grasp.

Cordelia saw the disbelief on Hannah's face and smiled lightly.

"I didn't drive here today. I'll catch a ride with you back home."

Hannah raised an eyebrow, "Mr. Hughes isn't picking you up?"

Alaric had been picking Cordelia up every day recently, and Hannah had seen it many times.

Cordelia shook her head.

"No, he won't be coming anymore."

Hannah was baffled.

"Did you guys have a fight?"

Cordelia shook her head. It wasn't really a fight.

She might have hurt Alaric's pride with her words this morning. With his arrogance, he couldn't tolerate being looked down upon.

Hannah clicked her tongue, "Do you think Mr. Hughes has feelings for you? Despite everything, he hasn't tried to suppress you and is still helping you."

Alaric could have used today's incident to suppress Cordelia and the Stone family, even refusing to share any marital assets with her. But instead, he helped Cordelia sue Everett.

If that was not love, what was it?

Cordelia listened to Hannah's words and replied calmly, "If he were that kind of jerk, I wouldn't have liked him for so many years."

Hannah nodded in agreement, "True, your standards are exceptionally high."

Back at Pioneer University of Medicine, there were so many guys lining up to chase Cordelia.

But Cordelia only had eyes for Alaric, leaving many handsome men heartbroken.

Hannah dropped Cordelia off at the entrance of The Stone Manor.

Donald invited Hannah inside, but she declined due to other plans.

Cordelia was about to explain to Donald that Alaric wouldn't be returning to The Stone Manor today, but Donald spoke first.

"Alaric said he's on a business trip and won't be back for a while. I'll drive you starting tomorrow."

Cordelia was taken aback but managed a faint smile.

"Dad, I'm an adult. I can drive myself to work. Besides, I won't be working at the hospital much longer. Next month, I'm going to Astoria for further training."

Donald looked surprised.

"Going to Astoria for training? Did you discuss this with Alaric?"

Cordelia nodded lightly, "He's already agreed."

She linked arms with Donald and walked inside.

Donald nodded, feeling somewhat reassured.

"In your field, you constantly need to update your knowledge. There are so many strange diseases nowadays, and the pressure must be immense. How long will you be in Astoria for training?"

Cordelia bit her lip and said tentatively, "Maybe three years."

Donald's brows furrowed immediately, "Three years?"

His voice grew louder.

Cordelia took a deep breath and spoke softly, "Yes, three years. So I was thinking you could come with me."

Donald's expression grew serious.

"Three years? And Alaric agreed?"

Cordelia nodded, "Yes."

Donald sighed, sitting on the couch in silence for a long time.

Cordelia moved her lips, then continued, "Dad, don't you want to come to Astoria with me?"

Donald looked heavy-hearted, "Your relationship with Alaric has just stabilized. You've worked so hard to reach this point."

"If you go to Astoria now, it might strain your relationship with Alaric. Cordelia, you've worked so hard for so long, are you just going to give up?"

Donald's expression changed.

"Is there trouble between you and Alaric?"

Cordelia bit her lip, about to nod, when Alaric appeared at the door.

His voice was calm and natural.

"No trouble, Dad. You don't need to worry."

Cordelia looked at Alaric changing his shoes at the door, surprised.

Donald was also shocked, "Alaric, weren't you on a business trip?"

Alaric glanced at Cordelia sitting on the couch and replied.

"Something came up, so I had to cancel."

Cordelia raised an eyebrow, puzzled by Alaric's return to The Stone Manor.

Donald was delighted and immediately instructed Allegra to set the table for dinner.

Alaric remained composed, chatting with Donald as they walked to the dining room.

Cordelia followed and sat beside him.

Throughout dinner, Alaric barely spoke to Cordelia. After dinner, he took a call and left.

He didn't return to The Stone Manor that night.

Donald noticed some issues in their interactions.

The next morning, when Cordelia was heading to work, Donald subtly reminded her to be mindful of Alaric's feelings, saying men need to be reassured too.

Cordelia chose to play dumb.

For the next two days, Alaric didn't return to The Stone Manor.

It wasn't until Donald's birthday that he showed up with gifts.

Cordelia then realized he had indeed been on a business trip.

Donald's birthday celebration was a family affair, with only their family and Ruth in attendance.

Donald was thrilled that Alaric had come back to celebrate his birthday.

He even had a few drinks with Alaric, despite not drinking for a long time.

Ruth, being elderly, returned to The Hughes Manor after dinner.

Donald had been thinking seriously about whether Alaric and Cordelia found it hard to communicate while staying at his place.

So he suggested Alaric take Cordelia back to Garden Vista Estates.

Cordelia wanted to stay at The Stone Manor, but Donald insisted.

Eventually, Evelyn stayed at The Stone Manor while Cordelia left with Alaric for Garden Vista Estates.

On the way back, the two remained silent.

Finally, Alaric broke the silence.

"Did that intern apologize to you?"
