Chapter 40 Van is your dad?
Roger noticed that Karen looked very different, but he assumed it was due to her makeup.
The dress was nice, but not his preference for her, and without her eyeglasses. her green orbs could seduce his soul. Had she miraculously been cured of her eye problem?
These were all questions he wanted answers to, but the most pressing one was regarding her choice of makeup and dress.
They gave her a look of class, allure, and sophistication without a trace of the Karen he fell in love with, but they were also things he could change.
However, she appeared slightly thinner, and her body was well-toned. At this point, with a little extra height, she could pass for a top model.
Wade was slowly regaining consciousness as cold words began flying in like arrows.
Besides, Giovanni Dawson and another man he remembered quite well, though he was just a child by then, were trying to steady him. "He's fine," Giovanni announced.
Wade was convinced he was the same man who claimed to be Karen's daddy, so did it mean she was Roger's sister?
Wade's family was deeply rooted in the mafia, and the one person they always warned him against was the one he was seeing now.
It wasn't hard to obey them because he had tasted the ruthlessness of the Dawsons as a child, seeing his family wiped out by them. Hearing what Roger said with his eyes blazing like fire, it was clear that the Dawsons were still the same.
"Fine? Then I missed. He should be dead," Roger hissed. Everyone was stunned by the CEO who was smiling a while ago. His demeanor at this moment made him unapproachable.
Even as a child, Wade never won against Roger, though the former was older. Now, not only had Roger made it big, but he was also the richest man, so Wade did not stand a chance against him.
Karen was terrified. The man she was seeing after a few months was a complete stranger to her. His attire was stylish and unique, which she perceived must have cost a fortune.
“Roger, I invited him over. Can you move away?" She didn’t like the attention she was getting, but just seeing her hand joined to another man a while ago upset Roger and he wanted to wash her clean.
"If I see him anywhere close to you, I’ll kill him, and I mean it, literally." His voice was dripping with ice, and Karen was frightened, yanking her hand away from him.
"You are such a monster. I want a divorce." Her cold glare matched his, and unlike before, she didn’t back down.
Wade stumbled, just as Giovanni helped to steady him again. Yes, he had dated a few women in the past, but none of them were ever married.
"Divorce? You never told me you were married," he said drowsily, balancing between Giovanni and Hank. All eyes were on Karen.
She turned to face Wade. "I’m sorry, but my life is too complicated, and I didn’t know where to start from."
Wade could see that things weren’t going well in their marriage, but Roger didn’t seem ready to let go, which sent a silent warning for Wade to back down.
"Don Gio, I’m okay," he said, making his way to the closest chair beside Delanie. Karen was stunned. "Don Gio?" Was it the ruthless mafia don hardy criminals were terrified of?
Wade’s agony made her feel guilty because she kept her marriage from him. Perhaps he would have stayed away if she had informed him.
Wade didn’t notice that all tables were labeled and sat on a chair close to Delanie, but since there was an extra chair, Delanie didn’t seem to mind.
Still, there was someone close who looked upset merely because Wade sat close to Delanie. "Over here," she whispered from the other table.
Wade lifted his head, met with the radiant smile of a young woman. She was stylishly dressed in what he perceived to be a mermaid dress, but for some reason, someone else had caught his attention.
"Thanks, but I like it here," he smiled at Delanie. The latter smiled back as Lexi whispered, "Those chairs are reserved. You can join me here."
"It’s alright, you can have it," Delanie countered. Giovanni was grinding his teeth together. It seemed to him that Wade would never stop infiltrating their lives.
Even Declan was warming up to Wade because none of them knew the story surrounding them.
“Everyone, sorry for the false start. Everything is in order," Molly announced from the stage. Karen stared at her, mesmerized. "Molly Dawson? She's more beautiful in person than on screen."
Roger smiled and took advantage of her admiration for Molly. "And she's also my mom." The anger had vanished from his chest when he realized that Wade's intentions were not as bad as he thought.
He just had to find a way to get him away from Delanie. Karen froze, and Roger took advantage of her shock, leading her to their family table.
"How can Molly be your mom?" She asked in surprise. Roger lifted his head and signaled Giovanni. "And you seem to know my dad, Giovanni Dawson."
Karen's lips parted, but she was too shocked to speak. "Van, is your dad?" All this time, she was dining with the most ruthless man that ever lived without knowing.
No wonder he refused to tell her. The name Giovanni Dawson sent shivers down her spine, but she never had an image to associate with the name.
She felt like she had been played by a father and son when Giovanni walked to the table and sat down with Molly.
Karen was pale. "You did everything to bring me back to him? Will you at least tell me who sent you to help me?" Wasn't he the very same person who made her promise to never go back to Roger?
Giovanni took a deep breath and began to explain. "The fact that he's my son doesn't give him the right to treat you the way he did. This changes nothing. As for the person who sent me to help you, he's right there." His gaze landed on a familiar face, and Karen paled.
