Chapter 146 Karen’s Surprise
Chapter 146 Karen’s Surprise
Gracie was nervous, but Declan calmly explained it to her. “We have a daughter together. You don’t expect us to be dating, do you?”
“Let’s wait a while. Your parents might take me for a gold digger. I want to climb the work ladder first.” Her position and incentives were all at the top level, but she wanted more.
If she got married now, everyone would associate her next success with her husband and his family, which she didn’t want.
Declan did not see the point in arguing, so he took out his phone and called his mother. “Mom, how is Deena?”
“She’s such a good girl. She went to bed after her shower, and we did some shopping along the way. You should see her room.”
Gracie was relieved to hear how her daughter was being pampered, but Declan was not surprised. “Thanks, Mom. Is Dad around?”
“Yeah, he’s right here.”
“Okay, Mom, Dad, I want to marry Gracie,” Declan declared, and the couple on the other end of the line were excited.
“It’s such a relief, but have you found out her reason for leaving you before? Don’t get us wrong for asking, but we just don’t want the mistake to repeat itself,” Giovanni advised. Declan explained everything to him on the phone.
“Oh, they must be regretting it now. Why not bring her over, and let’s start making the wedding arrangements,” Molly proposed, and Gracie’s jaw dropped.
“Just like that?” She asked from the end of the line. Molly chuckled. “Just like what?”
“You wouldn’t try to investigate or anything to confirm if my words are true?”
A faint chuckle was heard before Giovanni expressed, “Well, you had the chance to terminate our grandchild, but you didn’t, and Jacob said you two were not married, so what exactly do we have to investigate?”
“I could never abort my child. She was the only thing I had left of Declan,” Gracie sobbed. Declan comforted her, caressing her back gently, speaking a few more words before ending the call.
She pulled away slightly and lifted her tear-filled eyes, but Declan hungrily pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss. It was a refreshing feeling, and he spent the night there, visiting the honey pot he had left for over two years.
Weeks later, the family attended Oriana and Chad’s private yet stylish wedding. This was followed by Declan and Gracie’s extravagant wedding, but something was brewing in Karen’s home.
For three days, Roger never returned home, and she had a feeling he was spending time with Deena, which saddened her.
If only she had a child of her own, Roger would have been home. With Giovanni and Molly’s return, Roger went back to the RD Group, but they barely saw each other.
He was always gone by the time they finished their morning meetings, and he also avoided her calls.
No matter how patient a woman is, it eventually runs out after serving for so long. Not seeing her husband for two weeks straight, Karen decided to visit her in-laws.
However, as she prepared to do so, one of the maids who had come to clean informed her, “Ma’am, there are three ladies looking for you.”
Karen was not expecting anyone but went to check, feeling warmth in her heart when she saw Oriana, Delanie, and Gracie.
The three married women came with gifts, which made Karen frown. Her birthday had passed, so what could the occasion be? “What are you ladies doing here?”
“We came to visit,” Oriana said. Delanie nudged her, and she shook her head. “I mean, we brought you a gift.”
They handed the large box to Karen, and she frowned imperceptibly. “What’s inside?”
“Why not open it?” Gracie suggested. Karen couldn’t help but compliment them. “You all look gorgeous.” They were formally dressed, each representing their husband’s taste.
Delanie had a cute bump that Karen envied, and Gracie had the biggest smile.
Oriana was the mysterious one, but when Karen opened the box, she was greatly stunned. “Wow, it’s beautiful.”
“So, wear it,” the three women echoed. Karen stared at the dress again. “It’s like a wedding gown.” The details were so much like Roger’s design.
“Do you need help putting it on?" Gracie asked, Karen nodded, looking at the dozen straps and dazzling diamonds. "Of course."
They not only helped her put on the gown but also did her makeup and hair. By the time they paired everything with the accessories, Karen was feeling like a Disney princess.
Delanie kept checking her phone and replying to text messages throughout. As soon as they were done with the desired look, Gracie announced, "She's ready." "Great, let's get moving."
"To where?" Karen asked, confused but did not receive any answers. The drive out of the mansion where Roger had neglected her for close to two weeks was refreshing. As they neared a garden, she saw people around, all formally dressed.
"What's going on here? Whose wedding, is it?" Karen asked. The three women smiled at each other. "Why don't we go and see."
They did not use the usual entrance, and Karen was blindfolded throughout her walk to wherever they were taking her.
"It's a surprise, Karen. Roger has been working tirelessly on this for over a month. I hope you like it," Delanie said, sliding something into her hand before removing the blindfold.
Karen's jaw dropped when she saw what, and who, was in front of her.
