Chapter 142 A Dawson trait

Chapter 142 A Dawson trait
Gracie decided to take her daughter along to the wedding instead of hiring a babysitter to save some cash.

Life wasn’t a bed of roses, as bills squandered more than half of her income. Apartments in that area were pricey, just as living expenses. Taking care of a toddler shot up their living expenses, and when she was just about to get an Uber, Jacob arrived.

“Need a ride?”

“You are right on time, but where is your wife?” Gracie smiled and asked. Being a weekend, he expected Jacob to spend time with his family. He was her best friend, and though he supported her, she never wanted to take advantage of him.

“Having a girls' time, so I feel lonely and thought I’d come crash at your place,” he pouted. Gracie giggled. Jacob had two girls and had been praying for a boy to find his place in the family.

There were things his wife did together with the girls, calling it girls' time, which he wasn’t invited to.

Sometimes, he’d stay and help with chores in the house, going to the gym at other times, but sometimes, he would be with Gracie because of his special bond with Deena.

“Great, then you can help me take care of Deena when I get busy. She doesn’t like to be in the kids' room all by herself, and I don’t know if other workers would bring their wards.”

“I got you, girl,” Jacob smiled and got the door for them, as he kissed Deena on the cheek. “Princess, you look amazing.” After that, he took his phone and snapped a picture of the little girl who was giggling at the compliment.

“You should thank him, darling,” Gracie said sweetly. The little girl excitedly replied, “thank you,” joining her two little hands together. She was so adorable.

“I’m surprised you are taking her along,” Jacob said after they settled in. His legs were already on the accelerator. Gracie’s heart thumped a little, but she brushed it away. “He isn’t going to see her. Even if he does, I’ll just say she’s yours. I hope Cynthia wouldn’t mind.”

“Well, she said you are the most harmless girl she ever met. If you wanted me, then she wouldn’t have had me in the first place.”

The two chatted as they drove to the venue, and Gracie left Deena with Jacob. He was merely getting her some snacks when he couldn’t see her anymore, panicking and afraid, as he called Gracie on the phone.

“It’s Deena. I can’t see her.”

“What?" Gracie was disappointed and afraid. She was supervising the refreshments since she no longer had an assistant. "Where are you?"

There was a short silence at the end of the line. "Jacob, are you there?"

Jacob took a deep breath before responding. "You won’t believe what’s happening."

"What?" Gracie asked, her heart thumping in her chest as Jacob relayed, "Deena ran to her father. I told you to hide those photos."

From the top reserved for the media reps where Jacob was watching everything, he had no idea how to rectify the situation.

Gasps filled the air, people wondering if Declan had already married secretly. Molly, who sat by Declan’s side, found it odd that the little girl had a few of Declan’s features like his eyes and nose.

Roger fell in love with the girl at first sight, and Karen loved the girl too. Still, it reminded her of her barrenness. How she wished the girl was hers.

Declan had his mind made up never to marry, but his heart instantly warmed to the girl. Maybe he could adopt her if her parents would agree.

"Wow, I’m not your dad but…”

The little girl climbed into his chest, her arms wrapped tightly around his neck. "Daddy." Her warmth was addictive but why did she smell like Gracie?

Forcing a smile, Declan held the girl close. He would have to wait until the event was over to address the issue. Oriana made her way to the altar, and so did Molly. She picked up the microphone and began to sing for the bridal procession for Delanie.

She didn’t want to use the traditional song, so they arranged a special one. As soon as she began to sing, Delanie appeared at the entrance in all her glamour, her arm joined to her father, Giovanni Dawson.

The emotions in their eyes were touching as the father walked his daughter down the aisle. Wade's adoptive parents attended, but due to the warning, they never got close to Wade.

"The bride is gorgeous, and the little girl is so adorable. She should have been a flower girl," someone commented from the crowd.

Another person responded, "the Dawsons possess wealth, power, and beauty. You can’t beat that. Just look at the superstar, Molly. She never ages."

With the priest's voice overshadowing everything, vows were exchanged, and soon it was time for refreshments. Everyone was admiring the little girl with Declan, and she would smile at whoever got close to them.

"The girl is really cute, so are you ready to tell us about her?" Giovanni asked. Molly was interested in the matter, but Declan shook his head. "I'm waiting for her parents to show up. Maybe I might adopt her if they allow it."

He couldn’t stop thinking about Gracie for some reason, as he noticed some features of her on the girl.

Molly's brows raised. "Adopt her? She has your eyes and nose, so are you going to tell us who the mother is?"

Declan froze suddenly, and in that moment, Gracie rushed to his side. "Deena, that's enough. We have to go."

As she tried to take the little girl from Declan, she clung to him like a second skin. "Daddy, I want, daddy."

Jacob rushed to their side, and Declan frowned imperceptibly. That was the man Gracie introduced as her husband. "Sweetheart, I'm not your daddy, okay?"

The sight of Jacob irritated him, but when he saw Deena's eyes red with tears, his heart squeezed tightly in his chest as he asked, "How old is she?"

Gracie thought quickly and replied, "Twelve months. She's just smarter and taller than peers her age," she shrugged. Giovanni smiled. "That sounds like a Dawson trait. I say we have a DNA test."

Gracie paled instantly.
