Chapter 138 Wade’s instincts
Chapter 138 Wade’s instincts
Roger’s expression was cold as he glared at her. “Only a dog barks at anything of interest.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Lexi asked, sounding offended, but Roger didn’t waste time explaining.
“I don’t care if you want Wade, but you should not have gotten my sister involved.”
Roger, the unexpected guest’s presence, felt like that of the boogeyman. “What are you talking about?” Robert asked, dropping his cutlery and wiping his mouth.
Expression shifting between the father and daughter, Roger dropped a hint for the clueless middle-aged man to comprehend the matter.
It would not be fair to take a life without either of them knowing why. “Will you explain to your father how you sent a gang to kill my sister? You know the family she belongs to, so you shouldn’t have tried.”
Lexi and Delanie had their differences, and Roger could have tolerated anything but not Lexi trying to claim Delanie’s life. It was farfetched, causing the loss of innocent lives.
The cutlery dropped from Lexi’s hands due to how vigorously her hands trembled. “It wasn’t like that. They were just meant to warn her.”
“Warn her. Wade was shot multiple times, both of his kidneys damaged because he tried to save her,” Roger revealed with a faraway expression, his voice becoming colder and colder.
“He has one of my kidneys now, but the fact that my sister would have died with the baby in her womb if I had not arrived is something I cannot forgive.”
“She’s pregnant?” Lexi mused, her fingers balled into fists. Delanie was pregnant with Wade’s child, meaning her chances were ruined. Wade would never be hers, now that the Dawsons accepted him.
Bitterness took over her, and she shivered from it, even as her father tried to apologize. “Roger, please, I will discipline her.”
“No, an eye for an eye, and I’ve come for my pound of flesh.”
Robert had tears in his eyes. He lost his wife, and now he was going to lose his daughter? The only person who could stop Roger was his father, so he quickly dialed Giovanni’s number.
“Gio, for friendship's sake, can you not let Roger hurt Lexi? She’s wrong, and I’ll punish her, but please don’t…” his words stuck in his throat at the horrific scene in front of him.
As he was talking, Lexi tried to escape, knowing that Roger would not forgive matters regarding Delanie. She stood up and dashed towards the door, but before she reached it, Roger threw a dagger.
As someone who never missed, it stuck in the back of her neck, blood soaking her long, brunette hair.
“I….I….” whatever she wanted to say remained unsaid as life drained out of her. Robert froze, still with the phone in his hand.
“Hello,” Giovanni was saying on the phone as Roger rose and took it from the still-frozen middle-aged man.
“Dad, I just killed Lexi.”
He ended the call, dropped the phone on the table, and patted the middle-aged man on the back. “Enjoy your dinner, Uncle Smith.”
Reaching Lexi’s lifeless form, he squatted and checked her pulse, confirming she was dead before he walked out elegantly from the mansion.
The security personnel watched him, unable to stop or contend with him. Roger Dawson walked in, killed the Smith heiress, and walked out as if from a friendly dinner.
A few days later, a dual announcement was made, introducing both Delanie and Declan as the twin heirs of the Dawson group. It was followed by an announcement of the wedding between Wade Thomas and Delanie Dawson.
The news spread quicly, and the young, brilliant men envied Wade for marrying into the Dawson family.
Some wondered what else the Dawsons were hiding after introducing twin heirs. They couldn’t stop wondering why the identities of the twins had to be kept a secret, and those who had mocked Delanie and supported Lexi before were now fully on her side.
Lexi’s death was not announced, her father having a private funeral for her and disappearing without a trace.
Distance was the only thing that could give him the needed sanity at seeing his daughter murdered in front of him.
It was during Delanie’s wedding planning that certain things began to unravel. Wade had a problem with the assistant wedding planner.
Not only did she lack enthusiasm in her work, but as soon as Karen accepted Delanie’s invitation to help her choose a wedding dress, things began to change.
“Mrs. Dawson, this dress would look great on you,” the assistant wedding planner, Pearl, as she was affectionately called, patronized.
Karen wasn’t excited because Roger always designed her outfits himself, using nude colors, but Wade found it suspicious. “No offense, but my wife here is the bride.”
Pearl stared at Delanie apologetically. “I’m sorry, I thought my boss, Gracie, was taking care of you.”
Her attention quickly returned to Karen. “You should try checking the wine samples for the bride.”
Karen, once again, was not excited because she had never tasted alcohol since returning to Roger.
He never drank, so there was no motivation for her to do so. Also, Karen was happy with her decision due to the clarity of mind it always gave them, but for some reason, Wade could not keep his eyes off Pearl.
Even as she smiled at Karen, there was a strange hollow of hate emanating that Wade couldn’t shake off.
He quickly called Karen to the side. “You should be careful. There’s something strange about Pearl.”
