Chapter 134 I’m never going to get married

Wade was thanking Roger again and again when his phone rang. “Answer it. It stops you from thanking me for something I did for my niece or nephew,” Roger shrugged. Wade was still elated.

“Anyways, thank you once again.” The joy in his heart swallowed the pain from the surgery, even when the pain meds were fading out.

Roger smiled and insisted, “Answer the phone. It must be urgent for the call to be consistent.”

Wade stared at the caller ID. “It’s my parents.”

The announcement covered the atmosphere with sorrow, but Roger gave an assuring nod, making Wade finally answer the phone. “Dad, what’s the matter?”

“Wade, are you still with that girl? Think carefully. Everything you have is going down. Leave her and let’s go back to the way things were.”

Wade smiled, but it was a sad one, having thought his parents were calling to check on him. “I’m fine, dad, thanks for asking.”

“What do you mean by that?” His father’s irritated voice sounded at the end of the line, but Wade was disheartened.

“New travels. Are you saying that you have no idea about what happened at the mansion?”

There was silence at the end of the line, followed by a tone of confusion. “What exactly happened?”

Figuring they honestly had no idea what had happened, Wade explained it to them. “Someone sent an assassin after my wife, and I got shot trying to protect her. Dad, I hope you don’t have a hand in this.”

There was a blend of silence and disappointment in his father’s tone when he replied,

“Wade, all these years we took care of you, do you think we’ll ever put you in danger? Truth be told, I don’t like Therese because she pulls you back. You didn’t even tell us about marrying her, but still, I’m not stupid enough to want her dead like that. Think about it.”

Wade knew it was true. His parents would rather kidnap Therese and force her to leave him than directly send someone after her. “If it’s not you, then who?”

There was a helpless sigh at the end of the line. “Maybe you should stay away from her. Whoever wants her dead would not stop.”

“That would never happen. I would rather die than stay away from her,” Wade raged, a different voice sounded at the end of the line. It was no longer his father but his mother.

“Wade, if I knew you’d turn out like this, I would have saved my son and not you. You are such an ingrate.”

Wade’s teeth gritted together but as he was about to speak, he saw the small crowd gathered at the entrance and quickly ended the call. “I’m sorry you guys had to hear that,” he apologized, a deep frown creased Roger’s brows.

“They saved you over their son so they expect you to be their slave?”

Roger’s question brought a sad realization, but the presence in the room erased the cloud of depression that was hovering before.

"Roger, my babe,” Molly hastened and embraced him, warmth filled his heart. “I miss you so much, mom,” Roger kissed her forehead, his arms wrapped around her. They hadn’t seen each other in months and somehow, Roger was thankful for everything that happened, resulting in bringing them back.

“You almost gave me a heart attack,” Molly pulled away, her tear-filled eyes meeting his, but Roger smiled. “You don’t have to be worried about me, mom. I’ll always be fine and will be here to protect you always.”

Molly embraced him tightly, her emotions all over the place. When she pulled away and saw Wade, she swallowed tightly. “Wade, it will take time for me to accept you because you look so much like your biological father.”

The mention of Wade’s biological father, Wesley, cast a shadow of gloom over the atmosphere. “But, I see how much Delanie loves you, and I have no choice but to accept you as my own,” she said with a faint smile, Wade’s head lowered.

“I’m not my father, Donner Molly, and I can’t wipe away his sins. I’m sorry, but I can’t change my DNA and looks. However, I’m patient.”

Molly’s lips stretched. “Indeed, you are not like him. Welcome to the family, and you can call me mom,” she embraced Wade, the latter was stunned momentarily.

Then everything clicked. Delanie’s scent, her warmth, her beauty, radiance, ethics, and so much more were all inherited from her mother, Molly.

"Thank you very much, mom. I won’t let you down.”

Molly pulled away and stared at him strangely. “Oh no, you wouldn’t dare because if you hurt her, not just me but all these men behind me are coming after you, and I wonder where you can hide.”

Everyone laughed as Wade replied, “I could never hurt her, Mom. I love her more than my life.”

“Declan,” Roger mentioned. He walked over and sat beside Roger, same as Hector and Hendrix, but Roger noticed that Declan was still not himself.

“Do you want to share?”

Declan stared at Giovanni at the doorway, his lips quivered slightly before he asked, “When are you going to announce Delanie’s identity?”

Giovanni’s lips pursed together as he replied, “It’s complicated. You two are twins, and I wish so much to announce you both together.”

“Then go ahead,” Declan informed him. Everyone frowned. “Declan, what are you talking about? You know the rules,” Roger informed him, but he sighed sadly, “I’m never going to get married, Roger.”

Overwhelmed by his heavy emotions, he embraced Roger tightly, and for the first time, everyone knew how much Declan had been bottling up.

“Hey, tell us everything,” Roger said soothingly.
