Chapter 104 Since that night
Last night, Delanie had only intended to strike a deal with Wade to fake date him with her fake identity, but the moment their gazes met, something changed.
He looked different from the last time she saw him at the party, and she began to feel a strange attraction to him, so that she didn’t want to be alone with him.
However, the more he pleaded, the more her defenses broke, especially when he assured her that Oriana would be safe with his best friend, Chad.
Delanie thought that Wade would take her to a VIP booth, a hotel, or some other place that normal guys would, but no. He took her to his office.
“Please make yourself comfortable. I’ll get you something to eat and drink,” he said before leaving her alone.
The office was huge, but Delanie was taken aback by how he left her there, all by herself. What if his enemy sent her? What if she secretly spied on him? Wade was giving her a level of trust that only scared her.
As her thoughts scattered through her mind, she walked to the large French windows, enjoying the view of people dancing. From where she was, it looked as if they were dancing to no music, making her giggle when Wade’s secretary, Diamond, entered the office.
“Sorry, I didn’t know anyone was here, but who are you and how did you get in?” Wade had informed her that he wasn’t going to come, and she hadn’t seen when he came in.
Besides, nobody was allowed in Wade’s office except her, and this was the quietest place at the club because it was soundproofed and luxurious.
Whenever she entered, it felt as if she were in another world. Delanie was apprehensive, seeing the tight clothes the girl wore, but comparing them with hers, she was reminded of her environment.
For a moment, the peace and comfort in the office had made her forget that she was in a club.
Delanie moved away from the window and sat on the sofa. “Oh, Wade brought me, and you are?”
“Mr. Thomas brought you?” Diamond was speechless. “I’m Diamond, his secretary.” She stretched her hand for a shake, and Delanie met her halfway.
Diamond was amazed. Delanie was exceptionally elegant and attractive, a woman she would instantly rate as an elite, and she was the first girl to enter the boss’s office. “Are you his…”
The door pushed open before she could complete her question, as Wade pushed a food service trolley into the office by himself. Diamond was dumbfounded.
There were rumors that Wade’s family had arranged a girl from one of the top families for him to marry, and she wondered if this was her.
“Mr. Thomas, you should have called me,” she said when she saw the items on the food trolley. About to take the handle from Wade, he politely refused.
“It’s fine. I don’t want to be disturbed.” Diamond smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. What was so special about this woman that made her boss lower his standards like this?
“Are you still here?” Wade’s calm but firm voice sent the right message, and Diamond forced a smile. “No, it’s nice meeting you…”
She was staring at Delanie as the latter filled in for her. “Therese.”
“Yeah, Therese. I hope to see you again,” she said before scurrying out of the office with confusion written all over her face. Delanie turned to Wade and acknowledged, “You have an interesting secretary.”
Wade smiled and pushed the trolley towards her. “Sorry about that. She must have gotten curious because of the light. I told her I won’t be in tonight.”
“So, what made you change your mind?” Delanie asked curiously as Wade poured her a glass of wine. “You.”
Astounded, she asked, “I don’t understand.”
As diplomatic as Wade wanted to be, he found himself slipping. “I saw you from the cameras at home and rushed here to meet you.”
Delanie’s heart thumped to an odd rhythm. Leather pants never caught her attention until she saw Wade in them.
She was brought up in a family that wore suits on a regular basis, even with deep roots in the mafia, but Wade’s outfit tonight gave her a different vibe, and now everything about the free drinks made sense to her.
“So, you informed them not to charge us for the drinks?”
“You got me,” Wade offered the wine to her. She took it reluctantly as he sat beside her on the sofa.
“Since that night, I’ve been wanting to see you, but you disappeared without a trace.”
Sipping the drink, Delanie realized that he remembered her favorite wine from the last time she told him. “You remembered.”
“Yes, and the shrimps too,” he acknowledged, putting on gloves. “I’ll peel them for you.”
Delanie was touched because this was something only Roger used to do for her. As they ate, they chatted.
“So, are you going to tell me about yourself?” Wade asked. She stiffened slightly. “What do you want to know?”
