Chapter 74 Juice Spilled on Chloe's Head
Chloe smiled and nodded. "An old friend, no one important."
Arabella understood and nodded gently, not asking further questions.
At this moment, Daisy walked over carrying a glass of iced lemon water, presenting it to Chloe like a little attendant. "Mrs. FitzRoy, please have some water."
Chloe was about to reach for it when a surprised voice suddenly rang out nearby—
"Arabella... Arabella? How are you here?"
Arabella's good mood was instantly interrupted, especially when she saw it was Cassidy. The smile completely disappeared from her eyes.
She maintained a polite smile but her tone was distant. "I happened to have an invitation, so I came."
Cassidy stared in disbelief. "You have an invitation? How is that possible?"
This was a gala hosted by the Tucker family. Even the Watson family had spent considerable effort to get just two invitations. She'd personally asked Sawyer to get one. Such scarce entry qualifications—Arabella could have one?
How was that possible?
If invitations were so easy to get, this gala wouldn't have high society fighting tooth and nail to get in.
Arabella countered, "Why is it possible for you to have an invitation but impossible for me?"
Cassidy opened her mouth, then showed a somewhat affected smile. "Arabella, I didn't mean it that way. It's just that the Tucker family gala has a very high threshold. I was wondering how you got your invitation?"
That subtle sense of superiority—before Arabella could speak, Daisy couldn't hold back anymore. She walked directly in front of Arabella, hands on her hips, blocking Cassidy's view.
Daisy confronted her face-to-face without mercy. "Mrs. Watson—oh wait, I almost forgot, you haven't married into the Watson family yet. Tell me, how our Arabella got her invitation has what to do with you?"
Cassidy's smile instantly froze. Not being able to marry Anthony was her biggest sore spot, and now being exposed by Daisy in public made her face immediately darken.
"I..." She was about to put on a weak act when Daisy interrupted again, her tone sharp as a knife. "A homewrecker who destroyed someone's marriage still has the nerve to mock others for lacking background? What background do you have? If you hadn't latched onto the Watson family, you'd just be a pitiful creature nobody wants."
"Daisy, how can you say that about me..." Cassidy's eyes immediately reddened, tears sliding down her cheeks. "I have no grudge against you, and I didn't mean anything by it. Fine if you want to scold me, but why do you have to insult me like this..."
Daisy crossed her arms and watched her performance with a cold smile. "Did I say anything wrong? We graduated from the same university—everyone knows about your affairs."
Philip added from the side, "And you were working at bars since sophomore year, mixing in those seedy places. Our Arabella is much cleaner than you!"
Cassidy's face instantly turned ashen.
She really shouldn't have impulsively run over here. Seeing Arabella had made her lose her composure, but she'd forgotten how vicious Daisy and Philip's tongues could be—these three had often been together in college, and they knew her background inside and out. Even things the Watson family might not know, they knew some of.
Cassidy bit her lip and said quietly, "I know you don't like me. Since that's the case, I won't stay here to be unwelcome. Arabella, I'm leaving."
She was preparing to leave when an arrogant female voice suddenly rang out from behind—
"Cassidy, why are you crying? Did that bitch Arabella bully you again?"
Without waiting for Cassidy to speak, Rachel quickly walked over, hands on her hips, pointing at Arabella's nose. "Arabella, you're so shameless! You're already divorced from my brother, why are you still making things difficult for Cassidy? Let me tell you, as long as I'm here, don't even think about marrying back into the Watson family!"
Arabella was completely baffled. "Ms. Watson, when you see me, besides these same old lines, can't you say something different? My brother and I have long since cut all ties. Where exactly do you get the delusion that I still want to go back?"
Rachel said coldly, "Stop making excuses! If not for my brother, why would you appear at this kind of event? Everyone knows your status—you couldn't possibly get in here! Cassidy is kind and won't argue with you, but I'm not so easy to mess with!"
Afraid that Daisy and Philip would expose her background in public, Cassidy quickly tugged at Rachel and quietly advised, "Forget it, Rachel. Making a scene at this kind of event would look bad. Don't stoop to their level."
But Rachel patted her hand consolingly. "Don't worry, the host of today's gala has a good relationship with my friend. Even if we make a scene, we're not afraid of them! Cassidy, you're just too kind, which is why Arabella keeps harboring fantasies!"
Daisy was amused by their anger. "Are you two sick? No wait, everyone in the Watson family is seriously ill. Our Arabella just wants to live quietly in peace. Can you please not bother her? So disgusting!"
Rachel's face darkened as she stepped forward aggressively, gritting her teeth. "Who are you calling disgusting? Say that again!"
Daisy wasn't intimidated at all, stepping forward to face her. "I'm calling you disgusting. What are you going to do about it?"
Rachel was so angry blood rushed to her head. She grabbed a juice glass from the table and threw it at Daisy!
Daisy had Chloe right behind her. Rachel's angle was extremely calculated—it could help Chloe avoid most of the juice while still letting some splash onto Chloe.
At this moment, Daisy's hair, cheeks, and dress were all soaked, and a few drops had also splashed onto Chloe's carefully styled hair.
Seeing this, Arabella could no longer hold back. "Rachel, what are you doing? I've told you repeatedly that I have no interest in your brother! If I really wanted to continue that marriage, I wouldn't have divorced in the first place! A man who cheats during marriage—no matter how good his conditions, I don't want him. In my eyes, he's just trash! Do you understand now?"
After speaking, she pulled out several napkins and handed them to Daisy, then bent down to carefully help Chloe wipe the juice off her clothes, full of apology. "Grandma, I'm sorry. It's all because of me that you've been wronged. We're not staying at this gala anymore—let's go."
Chloe took the napkin and gently patted the back of her hand consolingly. "I'm fine. This doesn't count as being wronged."
After all, having lived this long, no one had ever dared to wrong her.
If anyone was going to leave, it definitely wouldn't be her.
Chloe raised her eyes and coldly swept her gaze over the people opposite them. She'd figured it out—that weak-acting Cassidy was the homewrecker who'd destroyed Arabella's marriage; that arrogant Rachel was Arabella's former sister-in-law.
She'd only known before that Arabella's previous marriage was unhappy, but she hadn't expected these people to be so arrogant and rude.
Her Arabella was the one who'd truly been greatly wronged.
Chloe's gaze gradually turned icy, and both Rachel and Cassidy simultaneously felt a wave of panic.
