Chapter 117 I Absolutely Cannot Accept It

Chapter 117 I Absolutely Cannot Accept It

After being mocked by everyone, the young man in his early twenties looked completely hopeless and helpless.

"Fuck, my looks are determined by my parents' genes — it's not like I had a choice!"

The moment he said that, the crowd stared at him like he was the biggest idiot they'd ever seen.

"Why... why are you all looking at me like that?" the young man asked, confused.

An old man curled his lip and let out a cold snort. "It's not your fault you're ugly. But walking around looking like that and scaring people — that part's on you."

"Fuck, did you just call me ugly? I'm just not that handsome, that's all."

From start to finish, the young man refused to admit he was ridiculously ugly. He just wouldn't back down...

But right then, someone suddenly snapped back to reality.

"Why are we wasting time on this idiot? We still haven't seen how that young man Anthony is reacting."

It was a middle-aged man around forty who spoke up.

His words instantly brought everyone back to their senses.

"Right, right — this castoff from the Bruce family must be over the moon right now, huh?"

"Exactly. From what I know, he just got kicked out by his family. To put it bluntly, he doesn't even have a roof over his head right now. Pretty rough."

"Who would've thought — hits rock bottom, then his luck completely turns around. Ms. Isabelle takes a liking to him, just like that. Fortune really smiled on him."

"Yeah, I can see why — not only is he good-looking, but he's got a way with women too. Now not only has Ms. Isabelle noticed him, but that pretty girl beside him is probably his type as well..."

"Alright, enough talking — let's just see how he reacts."

"If I had to guess, he's probably grinning from ear to ear right now."

But when the man looked over, his mouth dropped open in shock.

"Fuck, what's going on? Why doesn't Anthony look happy at all? What's up with that?"

"I mean, Ms. Isabelle just offered him a luxury apartment."

"I'd kill for even a bathroom, let alone a luxury suite."

"But Anthony's expression — it's nothing like what I expected."

"Seriously, I can't believe it."

"What's the deal? Is he turning it down because he doesn't want to leave that pretty girlfriend of his?"

"That must be it. If that's really why, then he's a complete idiot."

"Totally — if it were me, I'd go with whoever has money. Even if she were an old lady, I'd just close my eyes and picture her as a beauty. I'd be perfectly fine with that..."

Hearing someone keep pushing the limits, Anthony couldn't help but let out a cold snort.

"Shut your mouths. Say one more stupid thing and don't blame me for what happens next."

The moment Anthony spoke, Poppy turned to look at him, her eyes wide with shock.

She had already been startled when she heard Isabelle publicly announce she was giving Anthony a luxury home.

Things were unfolding exactly as she had guessed, and Poppy couldn't help but wonder — how did Anthony manage to catch the eye of so many young, beautiful female executives?

And they were all so generous about it too, which honestly made her feel a little inadequate.

After all, this woman was handing over a luxury apartment just like that.

She thought about herself and her father — if Anthony hadn't helped them out with that twenty million, the two of them would still be living in that rundown shack that leaked when it rained and let in the wind when it didn't.

The gap between people really was worlds apart.

That thought weighed on Poppy's heart.

But a second later, she pulled herself together. No matter what, she liked Anthony. Just seeing him made her feel like life was worth living.

And Anthony hadn't let her down either — after getting out of prison, he'd boldly helped the two of them out of a life-threatening mess, and now he'd given them twenty million on top of that.

Honestly, even without any official title, just being by Anthony's side was enough for Poppy. She had no complaints.

Thinking about it that way, her face turned red without her even realizing it.

She watched as Anthony silenced the crowd and turned his gaze toward Isabelle.

"I appreciate the kind gesture, Ms. Isabelle, but I really can't accept the house."

Anthony's tone was firm and final. No one was more stunned than Isabelle.

She never imagined Anthony would turn down her offer.

"What? You don't want it? Why not?"

Anthony gave a calm smile. "I didn't do anything to deserve such a big gift. A house isn't some small thing you just hand out. You say it like it's nothing, Ms. Isabelle — even if your family is loaded, spending like this will drain you eventually."

Catching the dig about her being wasteful, Isabelle's face flushed red.

"Mr. Bruce, what are you talking about! Do you think I just hand out luxury apartments to everyone I meet? That would make me a complete idiot..."

"Mm-hmm."

Anthony nodded. "I was starting to wonder if something was off with you..."

Isabelle nearly lost it. "Mr. Bruce, are you doing this on purpose just to mess with me?"

Anthony burst out laughing.

"Ms. Isabelle, I'm not trying to mess with you. I genuinely didn't do enough to deserve this..."

"What? Didn't do enough?"

The crowd around them stirred.

"That's his reason for turning it down? All I can say is, young people act on impulse. An opportunity like this — once you let it go, it's gone. Good luck finding another one like it."

Plenty of people shook their heads for Anthony.

And Isabelle finally understood why he had turned down her offer.

Her expression softened, and the gratitude on her face was impossible to hide.

"Mr. Bruce, how can you say that? You saved my life and didn't ask for a single cent in return. I don't even know how to repay that kind of kindness."

"I'm giving you this house because of what you did that day. You saved my life."

With that explanation, the onlookers finally put it all together.

"Well, this just got interesting — here we were thinking Ms. Isabelle had a thing for the handsome guy, and it turns out there's a whole backstory."

"Right, so the good-looking young man is apparently some kind of miracle doctor. Sounds like he saved Ms. Isabelle's life."

"Please. Since when are miracle doctors that young? Ms. Isabelle probably just said that as an excuse."
