Danger on the Horizon Part 2
Owain

Kael flinched, then snapped to attention. “Yes, Lord Khroma! Immediately.” He turned to leave, his footsteps light and hurried.

“And Kael,” I added, stopping him at the door. He froze, turning back slowly, his eyes wide with apprehension. “Ensure our ‘allies’ are… gently encouraged to continue their preparations for war against Talos. Let them expend their resources, their strength. Let them soften the target.”

A flicker of understanding, mixed with terror, crossed Kael’s face. “A… diversion, Lord Khroma?”

“A sacrifice,” I corrected, my gaze piercing. “A necessary prelude to true dominion. The Talos Kings, for all their power, are still bound by sentiment. By love. A fatal weakness in the grand scheme of things. They will be distracted, divided. And when they are at their most vulnerable, when their strength is spread thin, that is when I shall strike.”

I rose from my chair, my form unfolding to its full, formidable height. My white hair seemed to glow in the dim light, and my grey eyes held the cold, calculating gleam of a predator. I walked to the large window, overlooking the sprawling, unseen city. The hidden kingdom of Talos, nestled within New Orleans, pulsed with a vibrant, arrogant energy. I felt the collective joy of their recent wedding, the euphoria of their perceived victory over the Dark Kings. How quaint.

Their celebrations were merely the final crescendo before the silence.

I would not simply defeat them; I would unmake them. Their love, their bond, their very existence would be consumed, folded into my own, making me stronger, more absolute. Layla, the vessel of the diamond’s awakening, would be stripped of her power, her essence absorbed. Asher, the ancient, would be my eternal battery.

The rival factions would exhaust themselves, only to discover a far greater, far more terrifying power awaiting them. They would bow, or they would break. A shiver, not of fear but of exhilarating anticipation, ran through me. My chromatic dragon, an entity of raw, elemental might, stirred within my very soul, a low growl rumbling in my chest. It craved release, craved the ultimate challenge, the ultimate conquest. “The black diamond,” I whispered to the unseen city, to the unsuspecting world, “is mine. And with it, Creation itself.”

The game was no longer about control, or territory, or even survival. It was about transcendence. And I, Owain Khroma, was the only player capable of winning it all. The dragon world, the human world, the very fabric of existence – all would kneel before the power of the chromatic. And the dawn of my eternal reign would be forged in the ashes of their misguided hopes.
