Light and Darkness

Light and Darkness
I felt a shiver. “He’s always feared his father’s darkness. He doesn’t want to become him.”

“And he won’t. Not with you. You are his light, Layla. But power, darling, is a seductive mistress. It whispers promises of control, of absolute dominion. It takes a strong will to wield it without succumbing.”

Later that day, Adrik found me in the royal library, surrounded by ancient scrolls detailing dragon lineage and forgotten magic. He sat beside me, his hand resting lightly on my back. “You’ve been quiet today,” he observed, his voice soft, a rare gentleness in his tone.

“Just absorbing it all. The history. The prophecies. And the diamond… It’s showing me more. About Asher.” I looked at him, my sapphire eyes meeting his obsidian ones. “He’s not just the God of War, Adrik. He’s also the God of Creation. Of balance. He was trapped because he held too much power, too much potential. And the Dark Kings… they were founded by those who feared his resurgence.”

He nodded, his gaze distant. “My father was one of them. He believed in absolute control. He feared anything that could challenge his authority. Asher represented chaos to him, an uncontrollable force.”

“But Asher's not chaos. He’s balanced. And the diamond, it’s his heart. It contains his essence, his power. It’s been waiting for the right bloodline, the right convergence of magic, to free him.”

He turned fully towards me, his hand cupping my cheek. “And that convergence is you. Our child.”

“Yes. But freeing him… Alden says it will destroy everything the Dark Kings have built. It will shatter their world, their influence. It will be a war, Adrik. A true war.”

“Then we will fight it. Together.” His jaw tightened, his eyes hardening with determination. “We have dismantled their financial empire. Now we will dismantle their very existence. For you. For our child. For the future.”

The intensity of his gaze, the unwavering resolve in his voice, filled me with a sense of profound peace. With these men by my side, with the power of the black diamond and the legacy of my mother’s blood flowing through my veins, I knew we would face whatever came. The war was coming, a storm on the horizon, but we would meet it, not as victims, but as kings and the queen, ready to reclaim our destiny. The hum of the black diamond within me grew stronger, a silent promise of power yet unleashed, of a god waiting to be freed. And I, Layla, Dragon Queen, was ready to usher in a new age. I am ready to become a mother, no matter the cost.
