199 - Girly Bits
There might be a reason for her dreams. They might be trying to tell her something. Has she ever shown the gift of sight before? – Momma Dee
Camille was sitting at her parents’ house watching all the kids of the family opening Christmas presents. She had missed this. Even last year, when they came home, it was not the same. As she watched her three kids, she knew that it would never be the same ever again.
That twang of nostalgia hit her at the same time that the pain in her stomach did. She shifted uncomfortably on the couch. Momma Dee squeezed her hand.
“It’s a little early,” the older woman said as if she could see something that no one else could. “But it’s a good day.”
Looking at her husband’s grandmother, Camille tried to understand what she was talking about. It was midmorning, so it was no longer early. So far, it had definitely been a good day.
Vin had brought his girlfriend home. She was from New Mexico and could not afford to go home. He did not want her to spend two weeks on campus by herself. She was staying in the little apartment with Vin and Camille and Darkness knew better than to believe that she was sleeping in the other bedroom.
Nicki was more focused on school and the upcoming softball season than she was on boys. However, she had a date almost every weekend. When she went out with two guys one night, she came back with a giant smile on her face.
Darkness took one look at her and declared, “I don’t want any details. I just need to know that they treated you right.”
After she confirmed that they had treated her right, he kissed his wife and left the house. A moment later, Priscilla entered the house with a bottle of wine. Settling on the couch with her best friend and teenaged niece, she opened the nonalcoholic wine.
“I was informed that you needed my expertise.”
For the past few weeks, she had been seeing the two of them exclusively. Camille had learned a lot about the poly lifestyle and promised Nicki that no one would judge her. Priscilla was there to help and answer questions that Camille knew nothing about, and Camille was grateful.
Mitch had his first boyfriend, and they were the cutest couple. He was really blooming into a bright young man and since they had been in Massachusetts, he had grown another three inches. She was pretty sure that he would be close to Darkness’ height but would not have the build.
Camille wondered what their son would look like and shifted again as another pain rippled across her belly. This one was worse than the previous ones and she squeezed Momma Dee’s hand. Her other hand clenched the throw pillow on her mother’s couch as her eyes closed tight to block the world and the pain.
“You’re okay,” Momma Dee soothed. “Breathe through it.”
The pain slipped away and warm liquid seeped out of her panties. She opened her eyes to see that the entire room had stopped and were now watching her. Momma Dee kissed her cheek and patted her hand as a tear slipped out of her eye.
Darkness squatted down in front of his wife and took her hands in his. He kissed her knuckles as she started to cry. “Are you okay?” he asked her quietly.
She shook her head slightly, “It’s too early.”
He smiled at her because all of her dreams of giving birth to an animal had all taken place on Christmas day. And they all had her complaining that it was too early. Unable to help himself, he chuckled at her.
“Babies seem to have their own schedule.”
“You’re making me think that this is another dream.”
“It’s not a dream this time,” Darkness assured her. “But you have two choices, lanmou mwen. I can tale you to the hospital and we can find out for sure if you are having a baby.”
She smirked. “I never went to the hospital in the dreams.”
“Nope,” he agreed with a smile. “You never did.”
“What’s my other option?”
“Your brother has to see all your girly bits.”
Camille shook her head and gritted her teeth as another wave moved across her belly. Darkness talked her through breathing through the pain. There was more liquid that gushed out and soaked the couch cushion that she was sitting on. It eased up and when she looked up, Chris was standing in front of her looking at his watch.
“Honestly,” Chris told her, “I don’t want to see any of my sisters’ girly bits. But with as fast and long – shut up you pervert – as those contractions are, you better either go now, call the woo woo taxi, or be prepared for me to see your girly bits.”
“Let’s go,” Camille told her husband. “I’m not giving birth on the couch. And he’s not seeing my birly bits.”
“Your what?” Darkness chuckled as he helped her stand.
“Shut up,” her knees buckled and her husband picked her up with an arm under her knees and the other around her upper back. “Just get me there.”
“I think we’re parked at the end,” Claire said as she tucked the key fob to her Wagoneer into his pocket. “We’ll bring the Jeep up in a little bit.”
“Thanks,” Darkness said as he rushed out to the blue Wagoneer. He settled her into the passenger seat and rushed around the car to slide into the driver’s seat. As he put it in gear, the back door opened and Sid hopped in.
“She’s going to want her mommy,” Sid said as she buckled her seat belt. “All my girls want their mommy.”
“Did you?” he asked as he navigated out of the crowded neighborhood. Once he was out of the residential area, he sped up as he headed for the hospital near the river.
“No,” Sid admitted with a little laugh. “I wanted my daddy. And my daddy wanted to be nowhere near my girly bits.”
“FUUUUUCK!” Camille screamed and Darkness was grateful that the roads were empty due to the holiday.
With no one coming, he flew through the red light. Swearing softly, he chose not to pull over when the cop pulled in behind him from the gas station. Camille was swearing a blue streak with every swear word in all the languages that she knew as he pulled into the hospital parking lot. Darkness lay on the horn as he rolled up to the emergency room.
Sid was out of the car and approaching the cop as her son-in-law moved to his wife. A nurse came outside and saw the scene beneath the portico. Sticking her head back into the building she called out for help. Others in assorted colored scrubs rushed out with a wheelchair and a medical cart.
The cop made his way past Sid as Camille screamed loudly. He stopped as two of the medical staff helped brace her legs as the baby slid out into the world. Cries from the newborn echoed around them.
