196 - Breakfast and Books
Girl, there are better things to do other than dream about animals. Go take advantage of my grandson while you still can. – Momma Dee
The week of Thanksgiving arrived, and Camille had not given birth to any animals. Although Nicki and Mitch asked her every morning what the animal was the night before. The new animal would be added to the growing list of ones that Camille had dreamed about.
Vin and Colton arrived late Monday afternoon with two classmates who could not afford to go home for the holiday. One stayed with Camille and Darkness and the other stayed with Charlotte and Werewolf. There was a possibility that more would arrive Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Nessie already had rooms made up and care packages made for all of them when they went back to school.
Looking at the list of animals on the dry eraser board in the kitchen, Tad, one of the defensive linemen on the team with Vin and Colton, pointed at it. “What’s this about?”
Nicki and Mitch both chuckled as Darkness started whistling innocently as he cooked bacon and sausage links. Camille set her hot tea on the table and rubbed her large belly as she glared at her husband. Vin tried hard not to laugh and failed.
“For the last month or so,” Camille explained, still glaring at the man that was whistling by the stove, “I’ve had these dreams that I have given birth to an assortment of animals. Those animals, to be exact.”
“How do you give birth to an ostrich?” Tad asked.
“Really?” Mitch laughed. “That’s the one that you’re curious about?”
“He bypasses the orca and hippo and asks about the bird,” Nicki smiled at Tad.
“None of that,” Darkness said as he placed a small plate of bacon in front of his very pregnant wife. After giving Camille a quick kiss, he looked at the teenaged girl who was infatuated with the red-headed football player. “You can’t flirt with your brother’s friend. At least not in front of him.”
“Darkness!” Nicki blushed bright red.
He kissed the top of her head as she tried to hide her face behind her hands. “You find a reason for your brother to leave and then you flirt with his friend.”
Peeking between her fingers, she saw Tad wink at her. “It’s okay, baby girl, you can give me a private tour of the farm later.”
“MOMMA C!” Vin objected.
“The hay barn is always fun,” Camille said, sucking bacon grease off her fingers. “Just be aware, I’m not the only one on the farm that knows this. If the pitchfork is outside, don’t go inside.”
All four kids looked at her in shock. Darkness, however, moved to the other side of the island and gave his hardening cock a silent but firm talking to. Looking at the surprised faces surrounding her, Camille shrugged, “I have a sex dungeon in the basement and it’s the hay barn that surprises you?”
Groaning, Darkness grabbed the soapstone countertop and tipped his head back to look up at the ceiling. Behind him, the pan with melted butter began to smoke as he tried to get himself under control. Camille tried to stand up, and both of her sons moved to help her. Waddling over to the stove, she turned the gas off and moved the hot pan off the burner.
“We don’t need both of us with kitchen fire stories.”
Grabbing his wife, Darkness pulled her to him and kissed her hard. Holding her to him, he cupped her cheek with his large hand. Tenderly, he rubbed his dark thumb over her plump lower lip. A Braxton Hicks contraction caused her to hiss out slightly and grab his arms.
“Breathe through it,” her husband gently coached her just as the Lamaze instructor had taught them.
She did the breathing exercises and when the false contraction passed, Camille leaned into his chest. Wrapping his arms around her, he kissed the top of her head.
“You’re not going to give birth to a killer whale, are you?” Vin asked with a grin.
“I already did that,” Camille pointed out as Darkness walked her back to the chair that she had been in. “It’s the animals that I don’t know about that I dream that I give birth to that should worry you.”
“Plus, she’s awake,” Mitch pointed out as Tad moved back to the list of animals.
“What the heck is a capy… copy… capy bar ae?” Tad asked.
“Capybara,” Nicki told him, with another flirtatious smile. “You know the movie with the rodents of unusual size?”
With a chuckle, Tad nodded, “Yeah.”
“Capybaras are guinea pigs of unusual size,” Camille explained as strips of bacon were place on her plate. “Thank you, Vin.”
“Anything to distract those two from making goo-goo eyes at each other,” he admitted. “And so I don’t have to hear about your sex life.” He motioned to her large belly, “Obviously, you two have sex. I would just prefer not to know about it.”
Camille caught the conspiratorial wink from Tad to Nicki and smiled. She found herself wondering how many times Vin had told his friend to stay away from his little sister. To keep from laughing, Camille shoved a piece of bacon in her mouth.
“We can do the farm tour later,” Tad smiled at Nicki, and Vin stepped in front of him, blocking the other man’s view of his little sister. “Maybe you can show me the basement?”
Darkness seemed to have caught on to what was happening. With a straight face, he informed them, “The one at the Shack is better.”
“Oh, yeah, Rosie said that Nessie has some new books in her library.” Camille told the room in general and then Nicki specifically, “She has some new shifter books.”
“Do you really think that you should be reading shifter books?” Nicki asked with a grin.
Grinning, her mother replied, “I don’t read them, you don’t read them.”
“We need to go to the Shack, and you need to see Nessie’s hidden library,” Nicki declared as she stood up. “We can eat there, right?”
“Sit,” Darkness said as he brought a plate with scrambled eggs over for Camille. “Your Oma and Opa will be here in a little bit, and Rosie is bringing Momma Dee out for lunch.”
Vin grabbed a sausage link and Tink trotted over from his custom bed. Breaking off a piece, he tossed it in the air and the dog caught it, never taking his eyes off the larger piece. Tearing off another piece, he handed it to Tad, “Feed the bottomless pit, and you’ll have a friend for life.”
“Thank you,” Athos said as he took the larger piece of the sausage out of the younger man’s hand. “And I love you too.” He kissed Camille and Nicki’s cheeks before moving around the island to where Darkness was scrambling more eggs. “I came to borrow a cup of breakfast.”
“Don’t you have food at your house?” Darkness asked with a grin.
“Yeah, but it’s not cooked,” he made himself a plate. “Admit it, you love me.”
“I’m changing the locks,” Darkness warned.
