THE ACCUSATIONS

THE ACCUSATIONS

Delilah

The Assembly Hall was full. Every seat was taken. The room felt heavy, like the walls were holding in all the tension and fear.

The Elders sat in straight rows, wearing long robes and blank faces. It was hard to tell what they were thinking. Around them stood the strongest warriors of the pack. Their arms were crossed, their eyes alert. They didn’t smile. They didn’t blink. Something big was coming, and we all knew it.

Among the crowd, I saw Rosa. She was the pack’s healer. She looked calm as always, but I didn’t trust her calmness anymore. Beside her stood Zod, the Gamma, quiet and watchful. There were also new faces, wolves I didn’t recognize. Strangers. And their presence made the air even thicker.

I sat beside King Maxwell on his high throne. A royal robe rested over my shoulders. It was heavy, warm, and a little stiff, but it reminded me of my place beside him. I had chosen to sit here today, not because I had to, but because I wanted to. I wanted to show the king I supported him. Fully. No matter what.

The air was filled with silence. But it wasn’t a peaceful silence. It was the kind of silence that feels like it could break at any second. Whispers of betrayal hung in the air, even though no one had said the word out loud.

I knew the truth. There were traitors among us. They wore kind smiles and gave respectful bows. But underneath, they were hiding sharp knives. And I was going to help the king uncover them. I didn’t care what it would cost me.

Beta Cross stood nearby. His back was straight. His face calm. He stood close enough to protect us but far enough to respect the throne. His loyalty could be felt like a shield around him.

Then, Elder Kade stepped forward. His face was tight, and he cleared his throat before he spoke.

“Your Majesty,” he said, bowing his head slightly. His voice was loud and clear, but I could hear something else hiding beneath his words. Fear.

“Yesterday’s disaster,” he continued, “was unexpected. None of us thought it would come from you. This is the second time something like this has happened. We need answers.”

I leaned forward just a little, watching Elder Kade carefully. His voice was strong, but his hands told the real story. They trembled ever so slightly. His shoulders were stiff, like someone had forced him to speak.

He wasn’t the leader in this. He was just the mouthpiece.

King Maxwell stood slowly. The whole room seemed to watch his every move.

“I regret what happened yesterday,” he said, his voice low but firm. “But I did not cause it. Someone pretended to be me. I ask for your trust while I find out who is behind this betrayal.”

Whispers filled the room. Nervous voices. Angry murmurs. Before they could grow louder, another Elder stood.

He glanced at me.

“We understand that the woman beside you is your mate,” he said, not kindly. “But she has not gone through the sacred ritual. She should not sit in the queen’s seat. That breaks tradition.”

The king’s face grew tight. I could see the anger in his eyes.

“She is my queen,” he said, slowly but clearly. “She doesn’t need a ritual to earn her place. The Moon Goddess has already chosen her. That is enough.”

The Elder hesitated. I could tell he didn’t want to push further, but someone had clearly told him to keep going.

“If the ritual happens now,” he said, “in front of everyone, then no doubts will remain. This is how it was done for your late parents. Let us honor our ways.”

King Maxwell opened his mouth, but I raised my hand gently. I stood up beside him.

“I will do it,” I said. “Tell me what I need to do.”

The room burst into low voices. Everyone was talking. Some were surprised. Some were clearly pleased. This is what they wanted, to see me tested. But they didn’t know who I really was.

Maxwell turned to me. “Delilah, you don’t have to do this,” he said gently. “I can protect you.”

I smiled at him. “I know you can,” I said. “But I’ve already made up my mind.”

I didn’t need to hear their thoughts to know what was happening. Someone had given the Elders information about me. They had planned this day carefully. They wanted me to fail.

But they didn’t know my secret.

I had a gift, one I hadn’t revealed to anyone. I could teleport. Quietly. Quickly. It wasn’t flashy, but it was powerful.

As I looked around the room, I noticed the shadows moving just a little too much. Hidden Lycans. Covered in dark spells. They thought their magic would block mine. But I had already broken those spells before the meeting even started.

They thought they had trapped me.

They were wrong.

I caught sight of Rosa again. Her face was calm, but her eyes were cold. She had always been close to the king. The one he trusted the most. But I didn’t trust her. I had no proof, but my instincts screamed at me.

I believed she was the one behind all of this.

Still, I said nothing. I kept my face soft. I smiled slightly, just like she always did.

Let her think she had control.

Elder Kade raised his hand. “The queen has agreed,” he said. “Let the ritual begin.”

The crowd nodded, murmuring in approval.

I stepped forward, feeling every pair of eyes on me.

They thought I would break.

But I sm
iled again, small and quiet.

They had no idea what was coming.

And I was ready.
