I had still been working, even with them gone, on finding the next link that we could follow. I was finding, I guess not so surprising to me, but maybe to the others, that a huge amount of all of this bullshit was revolving around the Regional Alpha’s offices. So, it was like they had developed their own little network of fucked up shit, and just thought no one would ever come looking, or at least no one they thought they had to worry about. This shit wasn’t even well hidden. 

I mean the second I had a couple of pieces of the puzzle, then I was untangling more threads than I knew what to do with, Atorro heard me sighing for probably the hundredth time in the last hour and turned to me.

“Okay, so, what are you finding over there?” He moved his chair closer to me.

“They aren’t at all worried about hiding this bullshit. I mean, I had gotten into these systems before, but I wasn’t looking for any of this. I was trying to find a way out to someplace safe for myself and my daughter. However, now that I am looking for this shit, there’s 2 things blatantly obvious. They never worried about changing passwords, even after they had been notified by the Vandicoffs and McKormick that I had been snooping around in their systems. Second, is that they honestly don’t care about hiding their tracks as far as all of the fucked up shady shit they are playing around in. There’s not just stuff about all of the trafficking that we are looking into. There’s crap about drugs being moved around, there’s money changing hands, so much crooked shit. No wonder they don’t want things to change, then all of this bullshit would come to light.” 

He nodded, “Perhaps that is exactly what needs to happen. Perhaps we can discover a way for us to tell the rest of the world about what they have done? That would be something I could help you look for, and Jefe might have some ideas as well.” 

I looked at him and thought, “That is an excellent idea Atorro. We need to make sure this gets stopped, permanently. Once we take care of the current problems, it would be far too easy for another Alpha to simply step into the shoes of the former. Until the whole system changes as far as the Regional Alphas, the door will always be open for this bullshit. The rest of the world operates without that, so obviously it’s possible to not have a totally Alpha-run society.”

He again nodded, “Yes, our Alphas are very dominant, just as those of where you lived are. However, they have taken another path for the most part. We still have our corruption, just like anywhere else, but it has gone in different directions, and not strictly to the trafficking of women. There are still some families that participate in it. So, perhaps, when we expose the Regional Alphas, those will be exposed as well.” 

I nodded, “I wouldn’t doubt it, they are moving these women around fairly easily. I can’t imagine that it would just be between regions alone. I know that Satine was moved around to places in Europe, so, there’s that connection. Of course that was with the Harrara Cartel, so, we still have to pull the threads and see what unravels, and where the connections are. That way, when we dismantle the whole fucking thing, we can try and make sure we get all of the connections and strings no matter where they connect to.”

“We should not be so naive as to think this will solve the problem. There will still be the need for people such as your men, to go and help those who are not able to help or save themselves. So, that is something that very much still needs to operate. You will be able to help them do that. Have you decided where you will go when this particular endeavor is complete?”

“No, not really Atorro. I love it here, and I am very fond of Valenciaga and Satine, so it might be that we simply stay here if he is okay with that. It might also be that we decide to move just a bit further away and create our own compound, so that is something we need to think about as well.” 

He didn’t comment anymore, but nodded, then walked back to the table to sit and start going through files again. I watched him work, glad for the advice, and his insight into some things. I looked at the clock and thought I should go and see the children as I had been gone for a few hours.

“Tomorrow, I’m going to the villa. I have been gone for a while now, and Hope is still adjusting to having me back, so I am trying not to be away from her for long, and I will own that it helps me as well. Isabella will have already fed them lunch, and Valen will probably be sleeping, but I want to be there to put Hope down for her nap.” 

He nodded, “Yes, go, you must do that. I will continue to work here some, and then I will go and do other things I need to accomplish. The plane should land within the next 3 hours, so your men will be home soon as well.”

I nodded and left the office they had made for me, walked through the control room, returning waves that we offered as different people saw me, and then headed straight for our villa. As soon as I opened the door I saw Hope running from where she had been with Isabella in the living room.

“Mama, mama.” I smiled as I bent down to pick her up, starting to notice more of the bump protruding from my middle. I was still ignoring it for the time being.

I gave her great big kisses and hugs, “How are you, sweet girl, are you having fun with Isabella?”

She nodded and I walked into the living room, “She has had lunch, and she was playing with her puzzles until you came. Did you want to do nap time today?” 

I nodded to Isabella, “Yeah, the plane will be here in about 3 hours, so it will get hectic after that. So, I will read her a story and see if we can’t get her to sleep for a bit.” 

She nodded and I carried Hope to her room, I grabbed her storybooks, and she pointed to which one she wanted. I got her all snuggled in and lay beside her as I read the story. In the end, we both fell asleep, and I dreamed of my men coming home.

We had a lot to plan when they got back.
