Chapter 264 Chapter 264
DOMINIC

Cages’s loyalty is quite questionable at this point.

He has every reason to betray me if he strikes a deal with Brad and those bloody murderers. I am not surprised that he’d gone to deal with the enemy. Cage is an opportunist and takes whatever chance he gets, even if he is aware of the reason for my vendetta against them.

“You don’t look like you’re dressed for a party,” I say flatly and he arches a brow at me. “What’s with the look? I’d imagine you’d at least show up at the wedding of your new ally.”

He raises a finger and wags it at me sternly, “No, Dom Dom, not an ally, just a business partner.”

“A level of trust has to be established for one to be recognized as a partner of any kind,” I remark flatly and his eyes flicker with hesitation for a split second. I look him right in the eyes and ask directly, “why aren’t you at the wedding?”

He scoffs and rests his back on the couch, “Fucking hell. You really don’t know how to have fun, do you? Or you just choose not to.”

I bend down slowly and pull out a little knife from my boot, “Do you recall when we used to throw knives, Cage? You always missed but for some reason, I never seemed to get it wrong.” I say softly.

His eyes dart with a drift of panic and he sits up erectly all of a sudden. He grips the arms of the couch so tightly that his knuckles turn white and he laughs nervously, “Oh fuck. You really know how to open up old wounds, don’t you?”

I smile at him grimly, “Good to know you remember,” I reply, tracing my finger against the tip of the knife, “and so you know that if I aim directly at your heart right now…I won’t miss.”

The humor on his face drains out completely and he starts to rise to his feet. Just then, I throw the knife forward, aiming just a fraction of a millimeter away from his right ear. His body stiffens and his eyes go wide with shock as his lips quiver like dry leaf stuck in a tornado.

He scoffs in disbelief, his chest rising and falling frantically. “Fucking hell,” he mutters and drops to the couch. He shakes his head with a wry smile, but I can see the terror jittering behind his eyes, “the deal is finalized yet and so there’ll be awkward stares going around the room if I were to head there tonight.”

I stare at him impassively and nod, picking out another knife from the second drawer of my desk, “Either that, or you’re here to keep your own end of a bargain,” I reply softly and shoot a quick glance at him.

He smiles calmly, “Oh the game of dog eat dog, eh?” he remarks, “why would I play that? We’ve fought side by side for how many years now, Dominic? We’re the only true brothers I know in this unfortunately cruel world we’ve found ourselves, eh?” he smirks.

He’d called me Dominic. He only does that when he is genuinely petrified.

I glance at the little wall clock in my bedroom and nod at him slightly, “Dinner, you came just in time.” I say flatly and walk out of the room, waiting for him to follow.

He waltzes out of the room, trailing behind me as I descend the stairs. Roma, the head chef, pushes a trolley of food in and serves us, his hands trembling as he refuses to meet our eyes. Cage beams at him and gives him a little tap on his shoulder, making the fat, sweaty chef flinch.

I rise to my feet and take out a bottle of whiskey from the wine cabinet. Cage is a sucker for whiskey and I am done trying to get him to talk. I have played the dangerous game of pack politics for so long that I can smell a rat from a mile away.

I place the bottle and a glass in front of him and walk to the window. “I never thought Ariana made the perfect bride though,” I say softly after he pours himself a drink, “she’d always been a bit too lousy for my liking.”
He scoffs, “Funny how she talks around you when you’re like a brick of fucking ice, you know.”

I shrug, “She always had her ways,” I reply, “but since she barely talked, I began to wonder why you took a liking to her then…or was it all just for the sex?”

From where I stand, I can hear the sudden, vehement spike in his heartbeat. He sets his glass down on the table and looks at me with a pale expression. He parts his lips to speak but I suddenly burst out laughing. His eyes flicker with confusion, but he joins in on the laughter regardless.

“I got you,” I say and he laughs, pointing a finger at me. When I turn to the window again, my hands slowly curl around the bungee tie-down cord from the window. I carefully detach it and saunter back to the table. I pull out my chair and suddenly scoff, “forgot my own glass.”

He picks up his glass of whiskey as I walk past him and as he raises it to his lips, I quickly latch the cord around his throat. He gasps for air instantly, gurgling pathetically as his hands grope about the air in a desperate attempt to escape. I squeeze tighter until my bones crack, then my claws flash out of my right hand and I plunge them right into the center of his chest.

His body stiffens as a rush of warm blood coats my claws down to my wrist.

The door opens at that moment and Draco walks in. He stops dead at the door, like he’d just walked into a brick wall and took one look at the bloody scene.

His eyes met mine and with his face remaining cold and expressionless, h
e says,
“I’ve brought bad news, Alpha Dominic.”
