Chapter 255 Chapter 255
BELLA

That sigil had given them away right from the moment I saw it, but that isn’t the first thing I see when I slowly crawl back to consciousness.

The air smells strange and stale and a quick surge of panic slithers under my skin when I realize that the ground beneath me is moving. I pause for a moment, listening to the groan of the wheels of whatever is carrying me. I can hear men shouting outside the wooden compartment and I take a second to breathe, trying to decipher what is going on.

We are definitely moving at this point and from the constant turning of the wheels and the strong smell of wet wood, I am in a carriage and the men who attacked me are outside. There is only one thing missing at the—

“Damien!” I gasp with terror, my heart growing cold like a brick of ice in my chest.

I scramble around the dark carriage, trying to find him and my panic grows like a rising tidal wave until I come in contact with the warm surface of his tiny leg. I heave a sigh of relief, wrapping my arms around his small body.

I had been so terrified that I had lost him. My heart felt like it had been ripped out for a moment back there and without thinking, I kiss the middle of his head, my lips trembling slightly.

“You were asleep for quite some time,” he mumbles, “the men have been screaming and laughing outside. I knocked on the door for them to let us out, but they wouldn’t. I am really thirsty.”

I gasp, his starvation feels like a dagger to my chest, “You’re thirsty? And they didn’t let you out?”

His eyes shimmer in the darkness, large and with a sadness reflecting in those innocent eyes as he nods. I let go of him, patting his shoulder slightly while my heart hammers frantically.

I bang on the door hard, and the conversations outside slowly die. By the time I slam on the wooden door again, there is absolute silence and an heir of curiosity that I feel like a cloud on my skin.

“Open this damn door! You’re going to kill this child!” I yell at them.

The horses pulling the carriage don't slow down and that agitates me the more. I bang on the door again and again, yelling at them and suddenly, something clicks in my head.

I haven’t officially been renounced as the Luna of the pack, I still carry bits of the impact of the Alpha command in my voice, or at least the weight of its authority.

These men are from my own pack. That is its sigil and the first thing I had thought about was that these men are working under Brad’s orders. After all this time, he’s finally managed to find me.

I take a deep breath and signal to Damien to cover his ears with his palms, “I said, open this door, now!” I yell at the door, rattling its hinges partially.

The horses finally slow to a stop until they stop moving entirely. For a few seconds, all I can hear is the heavy pounding of my own heartbeat in my chest and my labored breathing. Then, a lock rattles and the doors finally come apart.

I squint already, expecting violent rays of sunlight to pour into the carriage, but all that pours in is a cool, calming wind. I blink at the night, suddenly wondering how long it’s been since we started travelling.

A guard stands in front of me, blocking the cool air. He carries a bow strapped to his back and his eyes stare at me coldly. My anger flares suddenly and I clench my jaws at the sight of those arrows.

“Was it you?” I ask, my voice strangled with rage.

He frowns at me in confusion, “You used whatever authority you have left to stop this carriage. It’s almost as if you’ve forgotten that you’ve been away for two years.”

I glare at him, my eyes fierce and unrelenting, “I said, was it you who fired that arrow at her?”

“What’s the bloody hold up?!” Another guard yells and comes around, shoving the first one out of the way. He snarls at me like a piece of thrash and says, “we are not going to waste time here. You’re old goods and whatever power you think you wield ends tonight.”

He turns to his colleague while I park their faces carefully and says, “Get those fucking horses moving, we’ve got a fucking wedding to catch up to. Wouldn’t want to miss all that wine and whores.”

My eyes widen slightly and a gasp escapes from my throat. I stare at him in disbelief and when he realizes the impact those words have left on me, he grins wickedly.

“Ah, no one has told her?” He asks and the other guard shakes his head, his eyes still unable to meet mine, clearly exposing his guilt. “Well then, get the carriage moving, she will see for herself.”

I squint at him in confusion but as the wheels groan again, my body is thrown back slightly and unfortunately, I can’t hold onto anything in time to prevent my fall. I land right on my back and groan in pain. Little Damien rushes to me and grabs my arm comfortingly.

I sigh and stare at him through my weak and exhausted eyes. I flash a weak smile at him, but just behind his head, out through the open doors, a massive firework explodes in the sky. In an extravagant display of flamboyant colors, the darkness is suddenly lit up by two names I only know too well.

Brad…and—I scoff. No fucking way. She’s finally got her wish, hasn’t she?

I pull Damien closer to me, my heart pounding with a heavy broil of anger and revenge. I heave a deep breath and finally let go of Damien as the doors close by themselves.

I have really just been kidnapped, only to be led to the wedding of my
ex husband and sister.

Can your luck get any better, Bella?
