Chapter 101

Chapter 101
Elly's POV

My eyes were glued to Rockwell, just like everybody else's, waiting for the big reveal. I also wanted to know what the hell was going on with Aidan and how it was connected to my nightmare.

“I made you travel back through a time portal to fight Alpha Kai,” Professor Rockwell started. “Although he was a werewolf, there was something different about him.”

“Yeah, his fur,” Jimmy chipped in.

“Not just the fur. Werewolves do have different fur colours.”

How different was his fur? It was weird that I had no idea what colour the Lycanthrope’s fur was.

“His eyes did look hellish to me,” Adrian said, raising his hand like a kid in grade school.

I couldn't remember too. All I could muster was a blur of memories of us fighting the Lycanthrope and nothing else. Why?

“Exactly. And I sensed something in him. It was like he had another being in there. The Lycanthrope was in so much pain inside. In fact, at that point when he fought you guys, he was not in control of himself. Something else was in control of his mind.”

“Are you saying he didn't mean to do all that he did?”

“Don't get me wrong. He definitely did mean to do everything he did. But down in his mind, he probably would have done it differently.”

“So, just like Aidan, the Lycanthrope didn't have control then?” Ryan asked, nodding back at Aidan.

“Yes and No.”

“What? What are you saying?!” Aidan was about to explode, but I held him down.

“Have any of you ever heard of the Lycan’s curse?”

“What the hell is that?” Aidan didn't let any other person reply.

“That is what was eating at the Lycanthrope. It had completely fed off him and taken over him. Who knows how long he had it for.”

“How could you be sure it was this Lycan curse?”

“I have read about it. When you all got back, I had to understand what I saw in your heads. So I gobbled down every ancient book about werewolves. Then I stumbled upon that.” he swept his eyes across the class to catch our reaction. I guess we all gave him that reaction he expected, he continued, “I finally understood why it felt like another being was in his head. The curse is sentient. Since you killed the primary host of this curse, it had to find another host to strive in. It latched onto you when you all jumped back through the portal.”

The class fell silent. I felt like I had a lot of questions but I couldn't just pick them out.

He continued, not minding our shocked and terrified faces.
“Aidan, that sting in your chest? That's the Lycan curse. You lose control and you don't know what happens next because it takes over. It is the reason your powers get whacked up and amplified.”

It was the reason the flames around him looked like they were breathing.

“Fuck,” Aidan cussed. He grabbed his hair like he was going to pull it out. “Why me? What does it want?”

Professor Rockwell sighed. “It doesn't want anything except the lunar energy that you have. Only werewolves have lunar energy in them, hence that's why it only infects werewolves.”

Aidan punched the table, yelling out the anger that had boiled within him. He got up and stormed out of the class.

I tried to hold him back but that was useless. I stood up wanting to go after him, but Professor Rockwell stopped me.

“It's best you let him cool off, Elly. I know how this makes him feel. Talking to him might make him get triggered. Just let him be for a while.”

I sank back into my seat, staring out of the door like I could still see Aidan marching angrily down the hallway to who knows where.

“I had thought he was just overheating,” Ryan said, nodding to himself. “This makes a lot of sense now.”

“The curse would have affected the rest of you, but it hasn't found what it feeds on in your blood. You do not have the lycanthropic markers that every werewolf shifter has.”

I thought about it for a while. “But I'm not getting any symptoms,” I said.

“Oh Elly, the curse manifests in many ways. But one thing it does is amplify powers and sometimes it messes with your head.”

It must've caused the nightmare.

“Did it…”

“Yes, precisely. That dream is not just a nightmare. It's also a manifestation of your powers. You've seen a future that may or may not happen, depending on the action you take against it.”

“So she'll truly be swallowed by the vegan beast?” Jimmy asked, trying to be funny.

“I doubt, but it could be possible. The curse gets greedy sometimes.”

My eyes widened as a bolt of realization struck me like lightning. “Is Aidan the rogue wolf I saw?”

Rockwell smiled. “I can't say directly that he is. Yet, it is possible the curse could be warning you that it loves a stronger vessel than a weaker one. Or it could be warning you of something else…”
His voice trailed off.

“Like what?” I pressed on. I was scared by the thought of Aidan swallowing me just because the curse wanted to eliminate me. There had to be another meaning to it.

“An apocalypse, I guess,” Jimmy thought out loud. I wonder what was going on in his head the moment he made the statement. “A greater threat that will lead to your downfall, and the downfall of others.”

That was a better interpretation, although not any less dreadful.

“Can you tell what it is?” I asked, hooked on him.

Jimmy shook his head. “I can't. That's how far I can go.”

I sighed, disappointed.

“Can you remember what the wall looked like?” Professor Rockwell quizzed from the front of the class.

Everyone turned to me with curious eyes.

“Um, I…” I squinted, trying to visualize it again in my head. “I can't remember.” The memory was a blur just like the little memory of the fight with the Lycanthrope.

“That could help us, you know? If you remember, let me know.”

“Sure.”

Professor Rockwell clapped and the class automatically arranged itself. All the damages Aidan had caused disappeared like it had never happened before and the chairs arranged themselves. It was like we never walked in. It was no surprise to any of us, but repairing physical damages was a new trick I hadn't seen before.

He adjusted his sleeves and cleared his throat.
“That'll be the end of our class today. I'm glad you have all learnt something new. But I want you all to be careful. The doom her dream predicts is very concerning.”

His words brought Aidan to mind. I was concerned how he was taking all this. I stared out the window. Where the fuck did he go?

Looking back at Professor Rockwell, I saw him pick up his book and he faced us again with a smile. “I'll find Aidan and talk to him.”

Of course, he read my mind. With that, he stepped out of the class.

I was quiet for a while, letting all the things he said sink. Lycan curse, future doom, downfall —why was it all negative? For crying out loud, why couldn't I just have a normal life? Why was I constantly stuck in a loop of extremely weird and bad things happening?

Whatever this impending doom was, I had to figure it out. But there was one thing I had to figure out first… How couldn't I remember the wall? A couple of days ago, it was as clear as day.
How couldn't I remember what led to the fight with the Lycanthrope? I didn't even remember jumping through a time portal.

“Elly? Are you okay?”
I heard a distorted voice ask.
I jumped and everything froze… Time froze, with Jimmy, Adrian and Ryan sitting as statues.

What the hell was that?
