Over-Thinking?
Over-Thinking?
Santiago
This terrible news changed my plans for this morning. It seems to have become a habit, but I think it will be fine. With such an amazing team that I have, this Igniaki won't go very far. After an invigorating shower, I received a call from my devoted partner and, thanks to the mini GPS tracker, Igniaki moved to a country house, far from the hubbub, where an old couple lives. According to Alvaro, he threatened them at gunpoint, so he could hide. He thinks he is smarter than me, but I have already beaten him to it. With this act that he managed to pull off, a feeling of storm, anger and determination invades me like a hot iron burning in my veins. Thinking about the fact that these twins dared to kidnap Orely and had the guts to run away, resonates like a declaration of war in the ruthless world I live in.
I, Santiago, the redoubtable godfather of La Domina, I am ready to tear everything apart, to annihilate everything in my path. This morning's communiqué from my accomplice's release has gone right down my throat, and I am having a hard time digesting it at the moment. My mind is in turmoil, every thought materializing into Machiavellian plans. I imagine the consequences of this affront, as I look into Orely's eyes, full of fear and despair, having taken refuge in my arms when I had come to save her. This image inspires me to want to turn the pain she is suffering into a searing rage. The urge I feel to protect her is my desire for revenge, creating in me an implacable force, an iron will.
As you can see, I don't need to go anywhere, my men are in charge right now. I have a well-oiled organization at my disposal, an arsenal of loyal soldiers ready to follow my orders. They are ready to plunge into the night, to hunt down this bastard who's done me harm, who dared to cross his boundaries to defy me.
Every loyal ally, every point of contact in my network is mobilized, like a tiger ready to seize its prey once in sight, there is no room for error as it feeds.
Alvaro informs me of every detail of the mission, because we must not forget that this nitwit is not alone and that it could be a ruse or a trap to surprise me. It could also be that he knows I am watching him. Suspicious by nature, I am always on my guard and as soon as we have got him, I am not going to waste any more time making him pay, including his twin. Adrenalin pulses, the smell of blood and gunpowder mingles in my head, visualizing every scene, seeing with contempt the faces of these twins, eyes wide open, terrorized by the fear that time is running out and this is their end. I go downstairs to join Orely, who is obviously waiting for me to eat. She comes back from the kitchen and I see her heading towards the dining room. I follow discreetly behind her, without making a sound, and grab her by the waist, kissing her neck.
"I hope I have not kept you waiting too long," I whisper in her ear.
With her, my world becomes peaceful where danger and anger don't exist. It is so nice when she is by my side, I see only her and no one else. The only one of her kind, I grow fond of her day after day, and I think she does too.
"No, my handsome, I am off to ask the cook if she can whip up some chilaquiles for us, for a change. What did you say?"
I am delighted to see her in such a good mood when I join her for breakfast. This seemingly simple moment is, in fact, charged with profound meaning. The morning light filters through the curtains, illuminating the room with a soft clarity that seems to reflect my pretty girl's radiant mood. Watching her smile, I can't help but feel a wave of happiness wash over her. This positive atmosphere illuminates our morning, creating a moment of complicity and shared happiness that brings us even closer together.
Our light laughter and the friendly exchanges that punctuate our conversations add a warm dimension to the start of the day. The lightness of her smile and the warmth of her words bring a priceless sweetness, transforming a simple breakfast into a sacred ritual. Every word exchanged, every knowing glance, strengthens our bonds and mutual affection, reminding us how lucky we are to share our lives together.
"Ah but it is very good! Very good choice. And guess what? It's my favorite breakfast! I love it," I said, my eyes shining with joy.
"Great, it is mine too," she replies with a big smile.
Here now there is something we have in common that brings us closer together. We settle down at the table and after a five-minute wait, the meal finally arrives. It is about time! I am starving after the torrid night I have had without food until this morning, but now I am really hungry! Orely seems to be taking all her time, pouring coffee into her cup, whereas Octavio could do that just fine. But she tells me she doesn't like feeling useless, and I understand. She also pours into my cup and I thank her with a slight smile.
But how does she manage not to be hungry? Did eating me in bed have a satiating effect on her? Ha! I can't help smiling inwardly at this suggestive thought.
Right now, I am enjoying this moment of calm with my rebel in a joyful, good-humored way, savoring breakfast on the beautifully laid table. But the look on Orely's face already tells me that she is waiting for me around the corner of what is going on and that she won't let me go. But she does not have anything to worry about..
I feel so happy and at peace, far from the mountains of responsibility that sometimes weigh me down on a daily basis, but I am still determined to manage everything. Watching Orely smile as she recounts a few anecdotes in memory of her mother, who she misses by being away from her, at least for the moment, erases all the complexity of life that gnaws at me every day. All that matters is her presence. Away from the vibrant, chaotic noises of the city outside, this is a place of exquisite tranquility, where projects, deadlines and obligations seem far away. It is a breath of fresh air in a life that's often too busy, and a real escape.
Now that I think about it, a slightly disturbing idea emerges in my mind as I watch her laugh with happiness, lighting up not only the room but also my life. I wonder if life in Mexico, with all its challenges and joys, is really worth it? If all goes well between Orely and me, will I ever be ready to leave this country for good, even though it is extremely rich in culture and human warmth? It all seems too much to bear at times, but that is just an idle thought I have been having.
In the meantime, I am making the most of this moment, in the gentleness of her company, leaving the questioning for another day.
