Chapter 164
Chapter 164
Nico
I am on the jet within the hour hearing from Tony that the mall has just been hit. Who the fuck has put us under attack? My blood is on fire, like burning fire my skin feels like it wants to peel off my bones, literally.
“How can anyone get through with an explosive?” I shake my head not able to comprehend with all our security that such a thing can even happen. Our staff are vetted every single day, we search their bags, we body search them, there is no way someone could get an explosive in. Our drones are on the lookout, backpacks, bags, everything and I mean absolutely everything on a client is searched. Even for business meetings, we search and search.
Our parking attendants run a mirror under vehicles to ensure there is nothing hidden and a detector to pick anything sinister up.
“Lucky was heading to the mall with Valentina,” Tony tells me.
“What the fuck are you saying, Tony?” Steam is coming out of my ears. Can’t this fucking jet go any faster. I need to get back to my wife and my daughter, to the only people that matter to me, except of course Dario and Tony.
“You think it is a coincidence or targeted? And who the fuck would know except you, Dario and Alex her assistant?” Could one of them be working for someone else? My heart is racing; I have fire in my veins and a pit blazing in my gut that threatens to erupt like a damn volcano.
Tony lets out a sigh at the other end. “I have no idea, Nico but it’s been five years since any big trouble. Maybe someone has bided their time.”
“It can only be someone we trust, Tony. Nobody can get in and out without being checked.”
“There are always ways, Nico. Always ways. We have had the stakeholders in today maybe one of them has some deep-seated bad blood with you.” I can imagine him pacing in his office, raking his long fingers through his dark hair.
“I want reports and I want answers now,” I say in a tight, controlled voice down the phone.
“We are on it, Nico. Lucky and Valentina are safe. We’ve moved them off the complex and put them straight on a jet to Atlanta. You are headed there, right?”
As if I would be going anywhere else. “I’ll make the pilot take the detour. I was heading to Arizona. Thanks for the heads up. Then I am flying straight in to see what the hell has happened to my business.”
“Nico, we have everyone on sight that needs to be here to assess it. There isn’t anything you can do. You will be in the way. Let the experts handle it. There are few casualties, we were lucky this time. We are waiting to hear from the hospital if there are any fatalities.” Fuck, I want to scream and punch the windows out.
“The fuck I will,” I roar down the phone. “I want to see firsthand what some cunt has done to Lucky’s mall. She has worked tirelessly for years for this and now it’s gone up in smoke. That I do not take lightly.”
“Nobody messes with my fucking Queen and gets away with it!”
The flight back to Atlanta seems to take forever, I am itching to be with Lucky and Valentina and our unborn child. I swear to God if anything had happened to my family, I would make it my personal mission to find the bastards who did this and slit their throats slowly, one by fucking one. Nobody messes with the Santangelo family.
It could be anyone, some fucking jealous asshole, maybe one of Petrov’s guys – maybe he has waited like an animal with its prey. It could be the far-reaching arms of Yelena, only she doesn’t know anything about Arizona nor does she have contact with the outside world, so it can’t be her. That’s an insane thought.
Who the fuck wants Lucky hit? Again! How many times are they going to go for her to get to me? And with my child. There is going to be a fucking war.
Blood is going to be spilt until I am satisfied that we can live in peace.
I will tear this earth up for Lucky and Valentina and my boy due in eight weeks’ time.
