Chapter 150

Chapter 150
Nico

Aurora has the drill set up and ready to go. This part always makes me squeamish. It’s not surprising that I usually don’t get involved with the interrogations.

“You want to talk now, Yelena?” I ask her bluntly. My heart is filled with hatred for this woman, the pain she will endure and the suffering is nothing in comparison to how my heart was hemorrhaging at the thought of losing Lucky forever.

The woman is my everything, she owns my mind, my body, my heart and my soul. I would die for her make no mistake about that. If it comes to her life or mine, everything would be for her to keep breathing and experience the joy of life.

We are connected by a higher force; it’s not like anything I can describe or put into words. Like the universe has brought us together to be one.

Yelena makes eye contact with me and I see something shift. Is it fear perhaps of what is coming next? Clearly the water treatment didn’t work, she has recovered. Remarkably well even I have to admit that.

Her backstory intrigues me but if she doesn’t talk, we will start with drilling into her mouth before we begin with the digits on her hands.

Shrugging my broad shoulders, I narrow my eyes at her and fix her with my deadliest glare. Men have been intimated by my look; they have given in and talked. Some were met with their last breath in any case for disobeying me in the past or double crossing me. Like I’ve said before, you don’t piss on the Santangelo family. Not ever. If I was to turn a blind eye, everyone would do it and I wouldn’t be the King of New York City.

“I’ll talk you bastard,” she spits out. Her spit hits the metal table. A classy woman she is not. It’s clear to see that Yelena will be disfigured and maimed for the rest of her life. Her hands are covered in red, angry welts from the glass shattering and cutting them. No doubt her legs and arms are the same. They will be the scars she will have to carry for trying to take out one of us.

That is if I let her live.

“Start talking, I don’t have all day, Yelena. I am an exceptionally busy man. We have been waiting for a while but you seem to have an affliction for pain and suffering, so it would seem.”

She snorts.

“You need to speak with your father, Nico. He has not always been the doting and honest father you seem to think he was.”

What the hell is that supposed to mean? I raise an eyebrow for her to continue.

She says nothing. I give Aurora another nod, she presses the button on the drill and grabs Yelena by the hair and yanks her head backwards, prizing her mouth open with the other hand that holds the drill.

“NO,” Yelena screams out. Aurora glances at me. I nod for her to let Aurora go.

“I don’t have time for games, Yelena. Either you start talking now or Aurora will begin to perform mouth surgery before making her way down your body to your fingers. She is a highly trained assassin; it’s not in her DNA to give a shit.”

Although, I do often wonder how a woman like Aurora can live with the acts that she performs. It pays not to focus on it too much. All I care about is that she is the best and she works solely for me. To protect me and mine.

“Your father fucked my mother, a Russian maid in his house. She was just seventeen, Nico brother,” she says her voice laced with a hint of spite. I don’t say or do anything, remaining poker faced and totally impassive. It doesn’t do well to give the enemy any ammunition.

“Continue,” I tell her brusquely. The fuck is she talking about? And why is she calling me brother? None of this makes sense.

“She fell pregnant, he took her without her consent. I am the result of his cock inside my innocent mother. She was a virgin, Nico. Do you understand what that means? Your bastard of a father, raped my mother. And you and I, brother are related by blood. That means that everything you have, is mine too. He covered it up, swept it under the carpet and paid her to keep her mouth shut.”

Still, I say nothing, shocked at what I am hearing. My father may be many things but a rapist, is something I find extremely hard to believe. Yelena is the type of woman who could easily twist the truth.

“Are you calling my father a rapist, Yelena? That is a serious accusation, is it not?”

She stares at me with fire in her eyes. All the years of pent-up anger and rage is evident in them as we look at each other.

“That is exactly what he is. Why would my mother lie, Nico?”

“Women do, Yelena. To get what they want.”

“Not my mother, she was young, innocent a good hard working Russian girl. She wanted to only do her job and he took her virginity. I was taken in by a Russian family and moved to Russia. They were no different to the likes of you, Nico. Mafia, mobsters call them what you will. Evil bastards – every single last fucking one of them. But you, you are my flesh and blood.”

The words hit me like a ton of bricks, my chest feels heavy and the air too thick to breathe. I feel as if I am suffocating. I need to get out of here and fast to process this information.

“Aurora, handle a DNA test. I want concrete proof.” I stand again and leave the room. There is nothing more to be said. I need to leave and get out of here before the contents of my stomach come up through my throat and spill onto the ground before me.

There is no way if we are related that I can have her killed. She may have done what she did, but if she is Santangelo blood that changes everything.
