The Shattered Horizon

As Magnus dangled over the abyss, his fingers scratching across sharp pebbles and his heart pounding in his chest, his thoughts were racing. His world and his purpose had been snatched by the rift, and now it appeared that it would soon take him too. His eyes were fixed on the infinite emptiness beneath, the blackness so immense it seemed to be alive, observing him and anticipating his descent.

Through the air's fissures, he could hear the creature's voice booming. "You believe that you can stop me? Magnus, you are nothing.

He struggled to hold on as his body shook and fatigue threatened to overwhelm him. It would all end with a one misstep. He was unable to give up, though. He could not abandon Celeste to the rift; she was out there.

The earth under him jolted abruptly, sending shivers of terror through his body. As the thing approached, the ground began to shift and crumble. Magnus tightened his jaw. The rift would have to break him the hard way if it was going to do so.

Magnus pulled up with one last desperate burst of strength. However, when his hand reached for the edge, he noticed Celeste's shadow standing just outside the edge of the rift. However, there was a problem. She remained still. Was she?

As the person approached, Celeste's breathing became shallow and her eyes widened, the air heavy with the icy energy of the rift. Her body was numb, trapped in an unseen force, and her legs refused to obey when she attempted to move. Once more, the figure's voice was a piercing whisper in her ear.

"Celeste, you cannot escape what is unavoidable. This affects you just as much as the air you breathe. I have been anticipating your arrival.

Although the words hurt, she was uneasy because of the way they kept repeating in her head. This was a struggle for her soul, not just a brawl.

She caught a glimpse of Magnus, who was struggling in the distance, as her eyes darted. She could see the despair on his face, even if he had not yet noticed her. It gave her a fresh feeling of direction. She had to struggle. For him, for herself.

She concentrated and fought the creature's hold with all of her strength. She resisted the urge to give in to the might of the rift, which she could feel dragging her. She would not be broken by this force; she had always been strong.

Abruptly, a chilly hand tightened like a clamp around her throat. The creature growled, drawing her deeper into the depths of the fissure, "You are mine."

Each step felt heavier than the last as Magnus hurried toward Celeste, yet the distance seemed to go on forever. The world around them was being engulfed by the widening divide. Piece by piece, it was eating up everything. He could not let her go just yet, so he had to get to her.

As he watched the person drag Celeste into the rift, his breath seized in his throat. "Celeste!" he exclaimed in a raspy voice.

But all the figure could do was chuckle, a distorted sound that made his bones jangle. It snarled, "Too late." "She is now my property."

Magnus's eyes were blazing with anger. Now was the time. He refused to let her go to this beast. Not without a struggle.

With a steady hand, he grabbed the blade at his side and drew it, then rushed forward, his weapon's light piercing the night.

Magnus was thrown sliding into the rift as the ground under him exploded just as he was about to lunge. His eyesight became blurry, and he heard Celeste calling his name in a quiet, faraway voice.

As Celeste struggled against the hold of the fissure, her vision was swimming. The figure's grasp around her throat tightened, threatening to suffocate her to death as the weight on her chest became intolerable. She refused to compromise, though.

She raised her head, staring at Magnus as he plunged into the crevice. She felt a wave of panic, but she resisted being immobilized. She needed to do something. She needed to save both of them.

Due to Magnus's fall, the creature's hold briefly relaxed, and Celeste took advantage of the situation. She spun, escaping the grip of the rift, and jumped in his direction.

She extended her hand to grasp him, but a sharp pain suddenly pierced her chest. She became aware of her deadly error too late when the figure's laughter reverberated.

As Magnus plunged more into the gap, his body colliding with invisible barriers of energy, his entire reality whirled. There was only a blur of light and shadow in front of him, and the air seemed oppressively heavy. His body twisted, his strength ebbing away.

But he was unable to stop. Not right now.

He was back on his feet, pushing through the chaos as soon as his feet touched firm ground. He had to make a decision quickly. Celeste and the beast were still out there.

He glanced up and saw her—the person looming behind her, standing on the brink of the abyss. It was too late to use words to save her. He needed to do something.

The creature turned, its eyes blazing with evil energy as Magnus reached for his weapon. It scoffed, "Magnus, you will never prevail." Then everything turned dark as it lunged for him with its claws outstretched.
