Chapter 36 THIRTY FIVE

Chapter 36 THIRTY FIVE
KEIRAN'S POV

“This is wrong!" I tell her, voice barely a whisper. “The eclipse is to happen every century. How come we've had two in the last twenty one years? And you're still predicting another soon?"

“I can't tell you why either, Alpha." She says, her voice not loosing its monotonous tone. “What I can however tell you, is this, the supreme powers are highly offended. The Moon Goddess was a special being and you werewolves ended her life.”

I clench my fists to reign in my anger. " The light wolves, and not us. They waged a war. They started the purge. They fucking drove us from our lands to live as rogues and exiles! How come everyone is paying for the sins of a bunch of egoistic people.”

Hemora looks at me for a while then shuts her eyes. When she opens them, her grey pupils are back in place.."Come with me, child.”

Without bothering to check if I'm following, she leaves and steps into her hut. I turn around and nod at Jethro, gesturing that he follows me in.

We both step into the hut and the seer is already seated on her woven mat, her items she uses for incantations on the floor between her spread legs.

The hut is small and dark, lit by just two candles that my barely provide enough light to count your fingers. I squat before the mat and Jethro remains standing behind me.

" You are scared, Keiran,” Remora calls out, her voice soft like the wind on a cool winter evening. “Your brothers are happy for their mate, but you aren't as excited. Why is that?"

I sigh and lower my head. “You know the prophecy, Hemora. The version we all know and the forgotten version. You know the curse that is on my brothers and I. You know what is at stake if we give into the mate bond.”

She raises her head and stares at me, her brown eyes shinning with years and years of knowledge. “Your brothers don't know."

It's not a question so I don't bother answering. Rather I say; “They've already fallen for her. Lucien whom I thought was the most detached was the first to fall, and Riven is practically a simp for her. Knowing will break them.”

She chuckles and shakes her head. " That is not why and you know it.”

Losing control of our powers was just a tiny part of the curse. Growing up, my brothers and I offended some really powerful people and I don't even want to recall the effect of that.

“The moon," I say, bringing the conversation back to its origin topic. " Isn't there something that can be done to slow it down? Like to delay it from…" I trail off, not really sure how to word my request.

Hemora sighs and shakes her head. “I wish for that more than anything, child. I wish there was a way to delay the dark Moon from rising too quickly, but there isn't. The only thing we can do is make sure the Lunar heir finds the fragments and activates the crystal as soon as possible.”

We don't talk much after that. There's nothing much to say to begin with. I already know what has to be done, and she has already told me what she knows. The answer is clear as day. The fate of the entire Moon realm rests on the shoulders of my mate.

Pain!

Raw , sharp, blinding pain rushes through my spine and I grit my teeth to keep from screaming. The flare ups are becoming too frequent for my liking and no matter what I do, nothing seems to be working.

“Should I get you a woman?" Jethro asks, his voice calm and composed like I'm not practically dying in front of him. But then, he's been around long enough and has witnessed a good number of my flare ups to be bothered.

He knows they're not fatal anyways, just puts me in unexplainable pain.

“Aren't you tired of burying dead bodies and paying compensation to the families?" I ask him, voice heavy with agony. “Just get me something to drink."

“You really think what Chase needs right now is alcohol?" He asks, folding his arms. “If he won't touch any other woman but his mate, then give him his mate.”

Heaven knows how much I wish to. How I want to pin the little devil beneath me and cover her with my marks. How I want to make sure that every other wolf out there knows she belongs to me and me alone.

But I can't. Not when I'm well aware of the repercussions surrounding it.

" You are really not going to mate with her?” He asks. I can't see him but I can hear him ruffling through something. A while later, he offers me a glass of raw whisky. I down it immediately and close my eyes as the burning sensation of raw whisky fills my throat.

“Chase will want to mark her."I force out. “He's been waiting for a mate for so long and if he gets any access to Nyra, his first instinct will be to mark her.”

God knows I'll give anything for that to happen. For me to sink my fangs in her and claim her as mine. But the consequences are too much and I can't risk it.

Jethro sighs and shakes his head, resigning. " At this point, I don't know what to do with you. Just be safe. Chase is getting feral by the day. I'm scared it's not going to be long until he can't take it anymore."

I don't answer him. I just lay on the floor and shut my eyes, letting my thoughts travel somewhere far. Somewhere I should have left in the past.

I see her standing in a beautiful Rose garden, the dress she's wearing flooring about her in the wind. Her dark hair flows behind her making her look ethereal.

“Yuna," I whisper, my voice barely audible and heavy with need.

She turns around and I smile reaching out to her. She smiles back and walks towards me. “Keiran, my love."

She takes my hand and I pull her into my embrace and breathe in her intoxicating scent.

“I've missed you so much Yuna," I sob. “I've missed you so so much. I really thought you wouldn't ever come to see me again."

“You have someone else in your lives now. You don't need me anymore. It's time you move on,” she says, softly running her fingers through my hair.

That's when I realized the shocking truth. The reason I haven't mated with Nyra i
sn't fully because of the curse.

It's because I can't move on from Yuna.
