Chapter 35 THIRTY FOUR

Chapter 35 THIRTY FOUR
KEIRAN'S POV

“I'm not your previous mate, Keiran. I can handle anything that comes my way."

My lips curve in a fraction of a smile and I stare at her intently. “We'll see about that now won't we, Cara Mia?"

She glares at me and rises to her feet. “I appreciate your concern, Alpha Keiran. But you don't need to worry about me or the guys. Now if that's all, I need to find Riven so we can prepare for our trip tomorrow."

She flips her hair and bounces out of my office, her hips swaying in a manner that has my dick aching.

I take my seat, lean back and shut my eyes. I rub my temple gently trying to ease the migraine, but it's no use. I didn't get any sleep last night and I'm going to have a headache for the next few hours.

Stop trying to act like you didn't touch yourself to the sound of her screaming for your brother, Fang teases. I don't respond because he's right.

My brother and our mate kept me, if not the entire palace up last night. Our bedrooms being on thesame floor and mine right next to his, I got firsthand experience of their little show. It was fucking torture.

Come on, Keiran. You clearly want her, so what's stopping you from mating with her? Fang asks.

Still I don't respond. Fang might be my wolf, but even he doesn't understand what is at stake. My brothers are driven by instinct and don't care about the consequences. Lucien and Kade are a perfect example. The only person still holding back is Riven and that's because he knows a fraction of what I know. What's going to happen if we all give in to our desires and claim her.

But even Riven won't last long. He's faltering and I can see it. His wolf Chase is already game and it won't take long till it convinces him of why he needs to mate with her.

I am the only one left to make sure things go as they should. But Fang is completely wrong when he says that I don't want her.

I turn on my phone and a picture of her lights up the wallpaper. It's one of her in a blue sundress that brushes her thighs. She's standing in the water, a smile on her beautiful face. I smile, recalling the day I took said photo of her. She was practicing her magic with Riven that day and she was having a hard time getting the hang of it. When she finally got it, her smile put the sun to shame..

My phone rings and I pick it up.

“Jethro," I reply answering the call from my assistant. " What is it?”

" Bad news, Alpha," he says and my heart rate instantly picks up. Jethro is my right hand and my best friend. We've been inseparable since I picked him up fifty years ago after he was stabbed with wolfsbane. He will never call me Alpha unless it's something really serious.

“I did the research you asked me to carry out and the results are not exactly what you will like to hear."

“Tell me." I'm an Alpha and as such I don't get the privilege of choosing the kind of news to listen to. I have to hear and process any news whatsoever, no meter my mood. Just like today.

" The Dark Moon. According to the moon seer in Haiti, another eclipse is not far away."

I don't ask Jethro for explanations because I doubt the seer told him more than that. Looks like I'll have to go myself. “Get the jet ready. I'll be in New York in a while and we'll head to Haiti.”

I don't wait for his response before I hang up. My plans for today were nothing near leaving Lunar City, but if the seer has something to say about the next eclipse, I better go hear what it's about.

I put on my suit, light another cigarette and step out of the office. The castle is silent, save for the guards and maids roaming around, the few pack members who live here loitering about the grounds, and Lucien at the far end with Zoya. They seem to be too deep into their conversation, but I don't have the time to stroll over and listen to whatever it is they're talking about.

I head to the garage and the driver bows when he sees me.

“Greetings, Alpha."

“New York airport. Now!" I order, opening the backdoor of my SUV and taking a seat. He's in the car in a second and the car speeds off out of the castle grounds.

The four hour drive to New York is silent. I spend the entire time responding to messages from smaller pack Alphas who wish to merge with Blackthorn Ridge, and go over the reports sent by the caretakers of the border tribes.

It's late afternoon when we arrive at the airport and the driver parks in our private terminal. I get down from the car and head straight to Jethro who's waiting by the jet.

He narrows his eyes. “I had to leave my luxurious hotel in Miami for this. I think it's time you let me get my well deserved vacation," he grumbles

“We’re in the middle of a fucking war!" I snap, irritated at the fact that he gets to have the women he wants and I can't even get a peaceful sleep at night. “If Xorus gets the Lunar crystal or the light Alphas get hold of Nyra, your vacation will turn into a mourning ceremony."

He makes a face that gets on my nerves. I turn around and get into the jet, him following behind me.

" So her name is Nyra, huh?” Jethro finally asks, breaking the silence after the jet takes off. " What does she look like?”

" Nothing that should be any concern of yours,” I tell him, focusing my attention on my phone, my tone telling him I'm in no mood for that particular conversation.

The last thing I want to do is think of Nyra and have images of how she would look stuffed with my cock filling my head throughout the ride.

Jethro gets the memo and he backs off. We get to Haiti well after midnight and any normal person would have waited for morning.

I don't. I head straight for Remora's cottage in the outskirts of the city. Just as I expected, the old woman is wide awake, standing outside her hut and staring up at the sky.

“You came faster than I expected, Keiran." Her sharp voice rings through the night like a sacred song. “You are desperate for answers, no?"

“I am," I agree with her words which could never be more true. “I got your message from Jethro and I couldn't wait any longer. Time is of the essence."

She's silent for a very long time that I almost think she'll send me away like she sometimes does. Then her voice rings out.

“In the last twenty one years, we've had two eclipses. Destruction is not far, Alpha Keiran. I do not know when the next eclipse will happen, but I know it'll be sooner than we think.” She turns around, her pupils completely white, and eyes distant. " And I do know that if your mate doesn't activate the crystal before the next eclipse, wolfkind will be extinct for good.”
