Chapter 32 THIRTY ONE

Chapter 32 THIRTY ONE

NYRA'S POV

Before I can react to what I Just heard, the door slams open and Lucien runs in with the healer and some guard's. The guards move to Kade and carry him away, despite his struggling. Lucien stays back, returning to his spot by the window.

“We'll take care of him, Alpha," the healer says with a bow before leaving.

I can't hold back my curiosity any longer so I ask; “What do you mean by Kade killed your mate?"

“See, sweetheart," it's Riven that answers, lifting me up from his lap and placing me on the empty space next to him. “Our bloodline is cursed. During the purge, the light wolves cast a spell on us to stop us having full control of our powers. But the spell went wrong and we lost control instead."

“Werewolf Alphas of our bloodline don't have complete control of our powers especially under the full moon," Keiran continues. “Some of us are able to rein it in and not hurt others, but some tend to spiral every once in a while.”

Zoya walks to the mini bar in the office and pours herself a glass of drink. " They were insufferable assholes till Yuna came along. She was a witch from a powerful coven, and the only person at the time who could put them in line.”

The air in the room is thick now, so thick that it can be cut through with a knife. Lyric 's whimpers of pain fill my head and as much as I try to shut it out, I can feel his feelings blur into mine. His pain, his anguish, his agony. All of it.

We've not even consummated our bond yet I feel his pain so intensely. I wonder how it'll be like when we do.

" She was just as beautiful as you are, sweetheart,” it's Riven who breaks the silence. " Same feisty attitude, same stubbornness, same no nonsense to our bullshit. She was the calm to our chaos. Then one night…” he trails off, runs a hand through his hair and leans back. " One night Kade went feral. It was a full moon night and he was out on the terrace with Yuna when he lost control. We don't know what transpired between them, all we heard is a pain stricken growl and by the time we got there, Kade sat with our dead mate in his arms."

“Kade was the closest and most dependent on her presence, so imagine his horror when he discovered what he had done," Zoya added.

I don't even want to imagine what he must have gone through. He killed his mate and has to live with the memory of it every single day. The guilt and self loathing he's experiencing has to be something else, something I will never wish even on my worst enemy.

Nyra, let's go to him. He needs us so bad.” Lyric 's whining is driving nuts, but I get she's worried. I am too.

I don't indulgence her though. Rather I smile and ask, “And the witches? What is their involvement in this?"

Lucien takes a deep breath and shakes his head. “She was never supposed to be our mate, you see. Her coven forged the bond and sent her in as a means to weaken us. Turns out the moon goddess had other reasons because the bond was stronger than any forged bond."

“So Kade went on operation ‘Kill all witches?’" I ask and they all nod in unison.

“We made him believe that, but in truth the witches were never completely gone. The covens he didn't know existed are the ones that survived." Keiran explains.

Well, that explains it. They had to go along with his belief that he killed all of them in order to feed his ego and probably avoid another relapse.

“He'll be dubs8," Riven says wrapping his arms around my waist. I want to belief him and be as laxed as they are, but I can't. I'm going restless with every painful whimper of Lyric’s and it's like the I'm feeling his pain first hand.

“Let me see him."

Four pair of eyes are on me instantly, all giving me thesame look – cautiousness and disbelief.

“You…you want to go in there?" Zoya asks letting out a chuckle like I just said I'm making a journey to the aftermath alone. “Nyra, he's my brother and still I can't go anywhere near him when he's in that state. He's fatal!"

“Baby , you haven't established your bond yet," Lucien says, his voice calm, as if trying to caution a baby. “He might kill you and then his will live with double regret.”

I understand their worry, but somewhere inside me, I believe that I can help Kade. I would ask Lyric for advice if she weren't in a devasted state as well.

" Just trust me on this,” I tell them with a soft smile. When I stand up, I expect them to stop me, but no one says anything.

I walk out of the office to the third floor where the bedrooms are located. The instant I get there, Kade’s anguished cries hit me. His room is at the end of the corridor, yet his cries sound like they're in the room before me.

I move to his bedroom and slowly push open the door. The healer is standing there with a syringe in his hand. The syringe is filled with a bluish liquid which I have no doubt he intends on injecting in Kade. The guards from earlier are there, holding him down with all their might.

“Leave us," I order, my voice carrying none of the inner turmoil I feel.

“My lady…"

“Leave. Us!" I order this time, voice a strict command. The healer nods and gestures at the guards who follow him outside.

It's just me and my least favorite mate in a room.

" You…you shouldn't be here,” he forces out. " Didn't they tell you? That I break everything I touch? That I'll kill you the way I killed her?"

The pain in his voice almost brings me to my knees. But I'm here to do a task, and I won't let him discourage me. I move to the bed he's lying on and sit beside him.

“I'm here to help you, Kade. I have a feeling if we seal our mate bond, you won't go through so much pain."

His laugh should have made me rethink the decision, but I push it out of my head. One moment, I'm seated beside him, and the next I'm lying underneath him, both my arms pinned above my head to the bed.

" You have no idea what you are asking for, Baby.” He growls. " If I take you, it'll be brutal and unfiltered, not the fairytale you imagine at night. I'll break you in ways you never thought possible.”
