Chapter 23: Payback and hindrance are two batches that shouldn't mix

JESSICA'S POV.

I was fvcking annoyed to have to wake up from the dream that David and I were about to enjoy the time of our life to reality. I snapped my eyes opened, frustration bubbling through me when I took in the place I was..it was different. Everything felt strange, I felt my head heavy and placed my hands to my head when my mind travelled to moments ago. My eyes widened as the event replayed before my immediate passing out.

Fucking Victor!!

I yelled.

David was literally speaking about how the universe was trying to hinder us from carrying out our activities and now, that little piece of shit had to ruin my magnificent kiss.

I totally forgot that I was blaming myself for Victor's transformation into a super villain. I guess I wasn't looking for anyone's approval other than David.

There was something that needed to be addressed that I ought to be talking about.

How did I reach here?

As soon as I uncovered myself from the white heavy sheets, I realized that my dress had changed and I was in David's blue dress. The one that gripped his physique mercilessly revealing all his manly elements.

As I landed on my feet, something felt wrong. It felt as if the ground was funny only that it wasn't the kind you get when you enter an aeroplane. This was worse. I got the wavy feeling and it didn't take long before I realized that we were on a ship or a boat.

The only thing that was on my mind was finding David for two things; to fight him for bringing me to a ship without my consent and to find out the reason why we're here to begin with.

I walked out of the room I was placed in to search for David. The shirt looked funny on me and it felt improper especially since the noise I was hearing alerted me that we weren't alone on the ship.

As soon as I got to the dock, I realized that this wasn't a boat cruise or a journey to the Maldives. It was actually war.

It didn't take me long before I realized that David was planning an attack. Some part of me concluded that I was wrong to assume that he wanted to attack Victor because David had never gone all out with these number on men on Victor and his men before. It had always been a game between the both of them but this time around, things looked and was already very serious.

I searched around the dock for David until I found him. It was weird to be amongst men with some fully dressed for batter and some half dressed as if they were in an all boys dormitory. Some covered up as soon as they saw me while the others proved they were too busy to be concerned.

David located me amongst all these shenanigans that circled around me. He pulled me to a quiet side of the ship to inform me of everything that's going on.

We're getting ready to go against Victor. We move tomorrow.

A shock was an understatement as to how I felt with everything he had just dropped. Just how do I deal with this information?

Wait, what?

I'm thinking it's not enough and I need to make sure I get more guys to fill the gap.

David! Can we talk in private!?I ordered taking him back to the room I came out from. It took time for me to navigate with the ship moving as it pleases.

What are you doing?I asked getting angry gradually.

Retaliating. That's how this is supposed to work, isn't it? He strikes and I strike back.

Yeah. You've been sticking with that for almost years now maintaining your sanity. Now, exact what are you doing? Can't you see how deep this is getting to you?I said, voice sharper as intended, cutting through the waves like a banter knife.

He stared on, gaze unreadable but with his calculating mind, I knew there was a point in what I was talking about but he decided to brush it all off with his arrogance.

Don't try and pin this on me. You hurt him and now, he can't let go.

Oh, so it's about me now?i shot back immediately. His flirting skills were very much appreciated but sometimes, reality needed to be addressed. His silence made him realize that his foolishness had led him to make irrational statements.

I realized that I shouldn't go so harsh on him. Even though I had all the power to do that which made me feel all high and mighty, I decided I wasn't going to exploit it as he was very calm and understanding while communicating with me.

I moved closer to him and spoke calmly with him.

I want you to remember the reason why you're doing this and not lose your perspective. Clearly this thing has gotten to you too as much as it has gotten to him. You need to tell yourself the reason why you're doing this before going on. And remember, you and Victor may not get hurt while playing your games. But what of those paying for the damage with their blood?

As soon as I dropped that, I knew he would need a room to think deeply about his decision. I was ready to accept whatever decision he made but what I was worried about going out to the dock was to check out the view.

The ocean is a beautiful place to gaze upon and one could almost get lost in thoughts while viewing it. The breeze that tickled round every part of your body and the water that greeted and welcomed you as if you were one of them.

After feeling strange in the middle of trained men, I went to a secluded part of the ship to enjoy my view better.

A few minutes later, David came out and gave a speech.

I know a lot of you have sacrificed a lot to be here. Most of you have lost some part of you while trying to keep me and my entourage safe. I appreciate every single one of you. But as for now, we'll rest and call it off. No doubt Victor won't stop coming for us. But for today, we call the shots and nothing is going to happen to us and most importantly, let's not forget our perspective here. We're defenders, not killers.

His words seemed to be inspiring. He didn't see me from where I stood but I was proud of him for doing the right thing. And if I wanted him to catch

my gaze — I just would have clapped
