Chapter 31

We spent the night in my club, drinking and eating. She ordered some cannolis and told me that we were coming back for those and the shower. It was a great night except for one more run in with Amara. “Did you see the angel in her mind?” she asked me, scowing. “I did, but I’ve seen all of her memories and she definitely wasn’t a traitor last time” I said scowling as well. She nodded but I could tell that she was double checking just in case. We finally decided to make our way back to the suite and we were both asleep quickly. It took a little longer to get her to calm down in the morning but it was still better than ever before. All she did was dig her nail into my back a bit but I would still take the win. We grabbed our things and were on the roof by 10am.

We arrived at her bar in less than an hour. She did her typical drop from the sky, spinning and twirling before coming to an abrupt stop above me. I still had my wings out and she looked at them confused as I did the same to hers. If it was possible, our wings matched even more now and seemed larger and stronger. “There’s red on your wings! And they’re darker!” she said as she looked me over. “Yours have more white in them” I said equally confused. “Interesting” she said simply before pulling me into a kiss. “I guess the gods knew what they were doing at least a little bit” she shook her head laughing as she finished and pulled me by the hand to the door.

Acheros and Ziggy should be arriving in a few hours and Volkan would be here tonight. We decided on eating before we went to join our luggage in her suite. She had cannolis but said that she liked mine better, which earned a satisfied laugh from me. We both happily made our way to her suite to unload for a few days. We both had business to attend to so we sat in her office above her bar to get a few things done while we waited for Ziggy and Acheros to arrive. After a few hours Daeva said “come in” before we even heard a knock. Ziggy and Roo came bouncing in hand in hand. I was just happy to see that they hadn’t chickened out yet. I smiled at them and Daeva stood up to give Ziggy a hug and shake Roo’s hand but he pulled her into a hug too. “Oh come on Princess, you know you wanted to” he said as he let her back down. She rolled her eyes and sat back down behind her desk. “I have like 3 more things to finish and then I’ll be ready to go. How did it go with you two?” She said, looking at her computer still. They gave each other a look.

“A few moods soured at the thought of the counsel, but they admitted that it was partially to do with you not throwing parties any more. There was one that mentioned an angel from the war that might know more but they’re said to be destroyed so it was a dead end.” Roo said with a shrug. “Show me.” she said and I could tell that she was looking into his mind. She grunted a bit, but didn’t give anything away. “Koby? He was the one that we were struggling to place in Russia.” I said and then filled the two in on our adventures while Daeva scowled at her computer and finished her work. The two of them were pissed when I told them about Adan, but seemed to relax a bit by the end. They both shivered a little when I told them about what I saw in his mind but pushed it back down when Daeva turned to glare at them. By the time I had covered almost everything, Daeva was done with work.

“You’re forgetting the best part” Daeva said, smiling at me. “Can you two feel it?” she asked nodding at Ziggy and Acheros. “You mean the pure, raw power emanating from the two of you?” Ziggy asked. We nodded. “It’s borderline suffocating,” Roo added “you were on our level before, now it feels different. Like the two of you have both doubled in power. What did you do?” Daeva laughed a little, “we fucked ourselves into more power apparently.” Ziggy snorted some water out of her nose. “Damn, Roo, we haven’t been doing enough” she laughed out after recovering. We all laughed for a moment but then Achero’s turned serious, “do you think that they planned this then?” Daeva and I shrugged at his question. “Neither of us really know how or why, just that it happened,” she said. “Well it’s good timing then, I think we’ll need it, if this shit really happens” Roo said shaking his head again. “Oh, and Ziggy, we need your help with something” Daeva said, shooting a wink in my direction.

Ziggy looked at her intrigued. “There’s one more thing that we didn’t tell you,” Daeva said, and then explained what happened with the power, earning myself a high five from Acheros. She went over how she forced an image onto me and how we worked on it a bit since then, but want to make sure that no one can enter her mind while she does it. “That’s amazing!!” Ziggy said, in obvious awe. “Okay, so I am going to show him something, and I want you to concentrate as hard as you can on my emotions.” Daeve immediately showed me an image of the cannolis from my bar, which made me laugh a bit. She switched after a while to the shower and then to what we did with it. Ziggy cringed and I got a little nervous. “What?” Daeva asked, seeming just as nervous as I did. “Well, I couldn’t feel you even a little, but he got really horny a second ago and it nearly blew me over” Ziggy nodded at me but sent Daeva a wink. “Oops” Daeva said, laughing a bit.

“Ok, your turn” Daeva said, turning back to me. I tried to give Ziggy a break and just showed Daeva herself working on the agility course. “This is better than watching sports tapes” she said laughing at what I was showing to her. Ziggy looked like she was about to bust a vein trying to get inside of Daeva’s mind. “It’s like, I can feel where he entered your mind but I can’t get there myself. It’s frustrating as hell.” Ziggy rubbed her temples a bit. “Can you send emotions to me?” she asked excitedly. Daeva scowled a bit but a few seconds later Ziggy was in fits of laughter. “Holy shit, ease up!” Ziggy said giggling, “usually I can just feel them, but yours are contagious! Okay, now show me something.” After a few seconds she turned to me. “That’s a nice shower and I’m offended that I haven’t been invited.” I chuckled a bit, but I had been trying to get into her head and couldn’t get close. That was a good thing at least. “You’re invited anytime” I gave her a respectful nod and she grinned at me.

“So you two seem to be getting along well” Acheros said, giving me a mischievous grin. “He doesn’t suck” Daeva replied, winking at me. “She does though” Ziggy laughed and caught the paper weight that Daeva threw at her. We talked for a while longer and headed down to the bar to eat and meet Volkan. We had all settled in and ordered when Volkan shuffled into the seat beside me. “Well, I hope your trips went better than mine did” he picked up a bottle and chugged the whole thing. “That bad?” Ziggy said, passing her bottle of tequila to him. “The underground misses you D, but they sure do hate him” Volkan nodded his head towards me as he said it. I put my hand to my chest, “here I thought I was the favorite.” Volkan turned to look at me, “who even are you, aren’t you supposed to be an ass?”
