Chapter 99 What Should We Do
Chapter 99 What Should We Do
\[Grant’s POV\]
“Ah, I can’t wait to see sweet Gianna.” Noel announces. “Can’t you drive faster?”
“Do you want me to get arrested for wreckless driving?” I counter.
“That will only happen if you get caught.”
Sighing, I focus on the road ahead of me as Noel begins to fiddle with the radio of my car.
How many times had she changed the station since getting in after I picked her up? Too many, and it was beginning to become annoying.
“Can’t you pick a station and stick with it?” I demand.
“What’s got you so on edge?”
“It’s just…”
Honestly, I don’t know why I’m so on edge, but just the thought of Gianna being home alone leaves me restless. Of course, there was no way that she would be in danger of anyone since no one knew where we moved to, but even then, I can’t shake this unpleasant feeling.
“Are you already having separation anxiety?” Noel pushes, hitting the nail right on the head. “Poor, Gianna, why on earth would she be with such a clingy man.”
“If you don’t shut up, I’ll make you walk the rest of the way.” I warn, slowing down.
“You wouldn’t leave your wife’s primary caregiver stranded.” Noel chuckles.
Frowning, I consider proving her wrong, but instead, I flick my turn signal and turn down the street that home is on.
As I turn a car that I recognize immediately comes into view.
“What?” I growl, slamming the gas.
“Woah!” Noel hisses, reaching up and grabbing the oh shit bar. “What are you doing?”
“Why is she there?”
I don’t know what is going on, but I’m certain that that is Rachel’s car. I had seen it enough to know it well, however, why the hell would it be in front of my home?
“Whose that?” Noel asks, her gaze trailing to where mine rests. “Was someone supposed to be paying a visit?”
“No,” I snap, speeding forward and then slamming brake in front of Rachel’s car.
“Ah!” Noel gasps as I throw the car into park and then jump out of the car and storm forward. “Wait! Hey!”
I don’t wait as I close the distance between myself and Rachel and when I almost reach she turns and her gaze widens.
“Grant!” She gasps as I grab her wrist and tug. “Ow! That hurts.”
“Why are you here?” I demand. “How did you find this place?”
“Grant!” Rachel gasps. “Wait! Ow! I told you that hurts.”
“This is nothing.” I warn her, my anger getting the better of me. “Tell me how the fuck you found this place! Are you stalking me? Did you or my father hire people to follow me?”
I’m seeing red. I’m furious that this woman managed to come here while I wasn’t here to protect Gianna.
“Are you okay?” I ask the woman in question. “Did she do anything to you?”
“No,” Gianna responds. “But, Grant, shouldn’t you calm down a bit.” As she speaks, she looks to Rachel who is crying. “We should at least listen to what she has to say.”
“Listen,” I repeat, my anger growing. “Why should we listen to a stalker?”
“I DIDN’T!” Rachel sobs. “I didn’t stalk anyone!”
“Then how did you find this place?”
I made sure to be discreet while looking for and buying the home that I intended to share with Gianna, grandfather, and our child. I made sure that there was no way that my father or anyone else would find it. I did everything I could and yet…I turn to Rachel once more, and then finally release her.
“Ah!” She gasps, toppling to the ground as though I pushed her. “Grant! How could you?”
“That’s nothing,” I assure her. “But I’m certain that you know that.”
As I speak, I move to Gianna and begin to take her in. If I found so much as a speck of dust on her, I was going to show Rachel what I was capable of.
“I’m fine,” Gianna murmurs; understanding my actions. “She didn’t do anything to me.”
“Good,” I sigh, feeling myself calm down a bit. “But she still came here to cause trouble.”
“I DIDN’T!” Rachel snaps. “YOU’RE THE ONE THAT TOLD ME TO COME!”
“Me?” I hiss, shock rushing through me. “Are you really trying to claim that right now?”
“It’s the truth!” She hiccups. “Look.”
I wait while Rachel reaches into her purse and then pulls out her phone and when she does, she hands it to me.
“Right there,” she tells me, nodding toward the screen. “That message. It’s from you!”
“From me,” I repeat, taking in the message that she is referring to.
G: I want to see you. Come to this address at noon
I reread the message again and again while wondering what the hell is going on, and when I realize that someone even worse than Rachel knowing the address of our new home is a reality, I feel fear trickle through me.
“Who?” I whisper, though I have an idea.
Father.
It had to be him. Who the hell else would want to cause trouble like this for me?
But how did he know? How did he get my address?
Isn’t it obvious. The small voice in the back of my head says. He’s got someone secretly following you and they managed to outsmart you.
Then what? I wonder, passing the phone back to Rachel and turning my gaze to Gianna who is watching silently. What did I do now? Did I up and move us after we just moved in? Or did we remain here and wait for my father to make another move?
Confront him. That was the smartest thing to do, but even then, I already knew that wouldn’t solve anything.
I needed to quickly rise up in the company. That was the most logical thing to do, but that meant that I would have to throw myself into work. The sooner I proved myself to the company and the shareholders, the sooner I could take my place and knock my father down a notch, but if I did that I would have to leave Gianna alone.
Instantly a war begins to rage within me over what I needed to do and what I wanted to do. I understood that diving headfirst into work and focusing solely on that would lead to a safer future for Gianna and our child, but I was also aware that as of now, Gianna was convinced that our marriage would only last a year because of our contract.
“Grant,” the woman in question says gently. “What should we do?”
“Leave it to me.”
