Chapter 97 New Home
Chapter 97 New Home
\[Gianna’s POV\]
A week later, I stand in front of the large house that Grant bought for us. Honestly, I was a bit surprised that it was a house and not a mansion, but I guess Grant wasn’t as extravagant as I thought he would be. Even if his actions screamed money and success, what he did contradicted that a bit, but maybe he was holding back because of me?
Even now, I was still uncomfortable with everything. This life. A man like him not only being my husband, even if in contract, but also the father of my baby. It would take a bit to get used to it, but I wasn’t exactly willing to let myself do that.
As it was, the time frame that our contract laid out was ticking away and since signing the contract and getting married, Grant and I didn’t really sit down to talk about what came next.
Of course, there was no way that I was going to abandon my baby, but I was certain that Grant wouldn’t let an heir slip between his fingers either, well, that was if the baby was a boy. If it was a girl, would he tell me to take her and never show in front of him again?
I didn’t want to believe he was that type of man, but even now I only saw what it was that he wanted to let me see.
Even now as I turn my gaze toward him, I can see the wall that remains between us, but when he notices my staring and turns and smiles, I feel it crumbling a bit.
“What do you think?” He asks me, nodding toward the house. “Is it to your liking?”
“How am I supposed to know just from the outside?” I ask.
“Well,” Grant chuckles. “The outside should also fit your preferences, yes?”
“Well, it’s a house.” I shrug.
Since I didn’t grow up with a lot, I didn’t expect a lot. I just wanted a roof over my head. Food in my belly. And people that I loved who loved me in return around me.
“Come on,” Grant sighs. “Shall I give you a tour?”
“Sure,” I smile, letting him take my hand and once our fingers twine together, we head toward the house.
Once inside, Grant leads me into the living room which is already decorated with a large black sectional and a glider for me once I have our baby.
Sitting in front of the sectional is a glass coffee table and in front of that is a large TV that sits above a faux fireplace.
Further in the house is a hallway that leads to the master bedroom. Attached to that bedroom is a large bathroom with his and hers sinks and a jacuzzi tub that I know I will be taking advantage of.
Once we finish looking in the master bedroom, we head out and into the first guest room that Grant’s grandfather will be using since he isn’t strong enough for the stairs, but something about that bothers me a bit.
“What if he hears?” I ask and Grant looks at me with a look of curiosity. “Don’t play dumb.”
One thing I was coming to realize about Grant, was the fact that he was almost insatiable when it came to sex. If he could have it all day everyday, he would, given his age, I expected him to be a bit tame, but damn, the man was constantly trying.
“You’ll just have to learn to be quiet.” Grant chuckles, leaning over and nipping my neck. “Unless you want everyone in the house to know what we are doing.”
Flushing, I don’t bother saying anything more. Instead, I pull my hand free of Grant’s and head toward the stairs.
“What’s up here?” I ask, though I already know that it is certainly more rooms.
“Come look.”
Before I can reach the stairs, Grant reaches me and then snags my hand and once he has a good hold, we head up the stairs.
When we reach the second floor landing, Grant moves to the first door to our left and when we reach, he slowly pushes it open as if he is trying to draw something out.
I soon realize what it is once the room comes into view and when I do, I feel my breath hitch.
“This will be our child’s room.” Grant tells me, leading me into the room so I can see the crib that sits to one side and the changing table beside it. In the corner across from those is another glider, and in the middle is a plush rug that already has a playmat laid in the middle of it.
To the other side of the room is a toy basket that is surrounded by all sorts of toys for the child to play with.
Everything is here that will be needed once I give birth and since we didn’t know the sex of the child yet, they were all in neutral tones.
“Grant,” I whisper. “When on earth did you get the chance to pick all this out?”
“While you slept.” He explains. “I wanted to surprise you. Did I manage?”
“You did,” I murmur, moving toward the crib so I can look inside it. “You thought of everything.”
“Of course,” he chuckles. “But you can pick out stuff too once we know the sex. Noel said she will do another ultrasound once she arrives in the city. You are far enough along now to be able to determine.”
Nodding, I look down at my stomach and take in the barely notice lump that has started to form.
We will know what you are soon. I think, touching it. How crazy is that?
How was it possible that just a few weeks prior I discovered I was pregnant and now, I would soon be able to know what the sex of the child I was carrying was.
It’s going fast.
That was one thing that I was coming to realize. Time was ticking by fast and before I even knew it, I would be holding my baby in my arms.
“What are you hoping for?” Grant asks, drawing me out of my head and back to the present.
“Honestly,” I say slowly, considering. “I don’t really care what it is as long as it is healthy.”
Boy, girl, none of that mattered. I would love this child all the same.
“What about you?” I ask and then immediately regret it, because in his world, there was only one sex that actually mattered.
“Same as you.”
Grant’s response takes me by surprise, but then I can’t help but wonder if he is simply saying what it is that he thinks I want him to.
Did he really not care what our child was or did he just not want to start a fight when things were going so smoothly?
I didn’t know, but I wanted to believe that he was telling me the truth.
“Should we wait until the child is born to get the sex then?” I ask, wanting to test him a bit. “Keep a surprise, I mean.”
“Will you be able to hold off that long?” He counters.
“I can if you will.”
Right now, I just wanted to savor these quiet and peaceful moments. I didn’t want to have to fear what the future held which I was certain I would if we discovered the child in my stomach was a boy.
“Let’s wait then,” Grant tells me and I feel a bit relieved. “We will do what you want to do.”
