Chapter 206 The Twins' Arrival
Chapter 206 The Twins' Arrival
\[Lilah’s POV\]
I watch as Collin rushes toward the bedroom, his face filled with worry. When he disappears, I can hear the sounds of him moving from within the room and when I hear a thud and cursing, I debate whether or not I should go and check on him. However, before I can even settle on a decision pain shoots through me again and I curl in on myself, my arms wrapping around my body like that will do something to stop the pain I’m in.
“Ready,” Collin announces, reappearing with the bag we packed for when I gave birth. “Let’s get going.”
Nodding, I attempt to stand, but before I can, Collin is by my side, his arm wrapping around my waist and together we head out of the apartment.
When we reach Collin’s car, he quickly throws the bag he is carrying into the trunk and then moves to the passengers side door and pulls it open.
“Get in,” he tells me, his voice gentle. “You’re doing great.”
“I haven’t done anything yet,” I point out, doing as instructed and once I’m in place, Collin leans in and buckles me.
Once I’m settled, he moves to his own side of the car and quickly climbs in and when we are both settled, he revvs the car to life and then we are moving.
The ride to the hospital is quick, quick enough that I don’t even really have the time to consider what is actually happening, but when we arrive, the reality of the situation sets in.
I’m about to give birth.
I’m going to meet my babies.
I’m about to do something incredible, but also extremely scary.
All this realization sets in and when it does, I feel my panic and excitement set in.
When we walk into the hospital, Vincent is waiting for us and when he spots us, he moves forward taking action.
“How far apart are the contractions?” He asks, falling into doctor mode.
“About five minutes,” I tell him, wondering if he was going to be the one helping me give birth.
Does he seriously do everything?
Between this and my mother’s treatment and even caring for her as she lays in that damn bed unmoving, it was like he was the only doctor in the whole hospital.
“Mmmmm,” the man in question says. “Then we got a bit of time.”
“Do we?” Collin asks and shock rushes through me over how worried and unnerved he sounds.
“Well,” Vincent responds. “I guess that depends on the babies desire to come out and Lilah’s body. Anyway, we should head to labor and delivery and get things rolling.”
He doesn’t wait for a response after that. Instead, he begins to move, leading the way through the hospital and when we arrive at our destination, he leads us into a room and nods toward the bed.
“Go ahead and undress and put on this gown.” He tells me. “Once you’ve done that, we will get things rolling.”
“Are you planning on helping her deliver?” Collin asks, voicing my unspoken question. “Doesn’t this hospital have trained professionals?”
“I have been the one caring for her and keeping trap of the babies growth.” Vincent huffs. “Isn’t it only right that I be the one to help them be delivered?”
He had a point, but even then it makes me a bit uneasy because if Vincent is here with us then he isn’t with my mother.
What if she wakes up?
I can’t stop this thought from coming to me and when it does, I feel a bit of hope.
What if she were to wake up after the twins are born?
What if by some miracle she somehow senses their presence in this world and finds the will to come back to us?
It’s crazy and I know I shouldn’t make myself hope that much, but I can’t stop it.
I want her to be able to meet her grandchildren.
“Anyway,” Vincent says now, snapping me out of my head. “We need to focus on getting things going and not on whether or not I should be the one here. What if the babies decide to make their appearance before Lilah even gets the chance to make a choice about pain management. Speaking of,” he continues, focusing on me. “What is your decision when it comes to that? Do you plan on having an epidural or are you going to go all-natural.”
For a moment, I consider Vincent’s question while wondering whether or not I even have the determination and strength to go without some sort of pain medicine.
“Honestly,” I say slowly. “I don’t know. I guess we will see as the pain intensifies.”
I Immediately come to regret my choice after settling in and setting up as the contractions intensify and my body starts going through the natural process of preparing for birth.
It hurts.
It hurts so damn bad, but even then, I continue to push forward.
However, when the pain from the contractions become too much and I’m almost certain I’m going to break Collin’s hand from squeezing, I cave and get the pain medicine.
“You’re doing great,” Collin murmurs as relief starts to settle in. “You’re doing so good.”
“Am I?” I ask, not sure if I believe him.
I didn’t have anything to go off of since this was my first time giving birth, but it was definitely not what I expected.
Between the panic, the pain, the uncertainty, and all the emotions in between, I wasn’t certain I was handling it well. And at the top of everything I was experiencing, the thing that made me feel like I wasn’t taking this whole birth thing as well as I wanted because at the end of the day the thing that I wanted most in this whole situation was my mother.
“It’s time to push.” Vincent announces now, snapping me out of my torrent of emotions. “Ready?”
“As I ever will be,” I tell him, turning my gaze to Collin’s and finding that he looks more worried than I’ve ever seen him look. “Are you ready?”
I grow quiet and wait as he stares at me, his gaze unreadable, his face pale, and when he finally nods, he tries to give a small smile.
“You’re going to be okay.” He tells me, squeezing my hand. “And when this is over, we get to meet our children.”
“Yeah,” I agree, bracing myself for what is about to come. “When this is over our lives are going to change completely.”
That was the thing that made me the most nervous about all of this.
The realization that when I started pushing there was no going back to the life that I lead before any of this happened.
Am I ready for this?
I can’t stop this question from coming, but whether I was ready for it or not, there was no going back.
“Push,” Vincent announces, further confirming that there was no going back. “You’ve got this.”
Nodding, I brace myself, my lips pressing tightly together, my body tensing, and when I start to push, I can feel this insane pressure down below.
“Good,” Vincent murmurs, his voice serious. “Good. You’re doing great.”
