Chapter 181 Seeking out the Witch
Skyler's POV
We had been driving for a while, we had left the palace earlier this morning. I added my blood to the middle of the compass, and it was pointing towards the west from our pack and we continued going that way.
“ Do you think we would be able to find her, since she knows we are coming” I asked, the same fear eating at me again “ I mean , she wouldn't just wait for us over there right.”
“ I really don't know “ Devon replied, his voice harsh and his eyes still on the road “ I don't know if this compass is actually taking us to her , I don't know if we are falling for her trap , I don't know anything but the fact that I need to get rid of this witch before she destroys my pack fully.”
I nodded and turned to the window, I understood how all this pressure was affecting him, so I tried not faulting him for being mean, since we had a bigger issue than how I feel right now .
“ I'm sorry” he said after a while “ I shouldn't been taking out my frustrations on you , you must be as worried as i am for the pack”
He held my hands that were clasped in my laps with his left hand
I nodded “ I understand” I replied “ I know you must be stressed out, and would love for this to be over, I also want the same thing”
He squeezed my hands lightly “ Thank you” he said
“Do you want to hear a story” he asked playfully
“ Sure, what is it about” I replied
“ About a young pup, that felt too small to rule” he replied
“ That sounds like an interesting one” I said with a smile
“ There was once a young pup,who was born to an Alpha of a pack, his father and mother loved him dearly and they would have given the entire world to him. He also had a person he would have given his entire world, His younger sister, he loved her like she was a princess and she loved him too. But this pup was a young and reckless one, he wanted to live a wild life, so he would go into the forest to run alone at night . When his father and mother found out they warned him not to go out at night again, that they were bad people who wanted to harm them.”
“ But this young pup felt unreachable, he said no harm would come to him. So that night when he wanted to go on a run, his princess begged to come with him, and he took her with him, and on their run in the forest, they encountered this bad people, the big bad wolves killed his sister, and that was the first time the young pup knew true rage, he somehow managed to kill the two wolves but, he ended up bruised, so he lay beside the body of his sister to die with her”
Devon went quiet, his face filled with great sadness
“ And?” I asked softly, urging him to pour out every thing on his heart
“ And when the young pup woke up, he was bandaged up, he survived but his princess didn't, not only did he lose his princess that night , he also lost his parents, he had lest the gates opened , and some rogue wolves had entered into the palace and killed the Alpha and his Luna, before they could find out, it was already too late , so they imprisoned the rogue wolves that were caught awaiting their trail”
“ But this young wolves was out for revenge, so he seeked them out in the dungeon and killed them, that earned him the title of being heartless and evil, so he continued to live to the idea the people already had of him, he became cold , he was also made to be the Alpha of the pack after, his father, he was now responsible for so many lives.”
“ He made sure to keep his people safe and deal with their enemies mercilessly. He had forgotten how to express his emotions until..”
“ The compass has changed direction,” I said, interrupting him .
We came down from the car and looked towards the direction the compass was now facing . It was leading into a forest path, and our car couldn't go any further
“ We have to leave the car here and continue on foot,” Devon said, opening the trunk of the car.
“ I wonder how far away we still are,” I said, bringing out the backpacks from the trunk.
He carried one of the pack back filled with food on his back and the other one with extra clothing for coverage in cold,his weapons were also in that bag , he carries with his right hand.
I stretched my hands to take one from him to ease his burden, but he refused
“ That straddle bag is enough for you” he said “ we need to conserve your energy, Remember you've lost a lot of blood of recents with this cuts”
“ But I feel fine” I said to him as he moved towards the direction of the compass with no other words to me.
We had walked for a while, and I could feel my clothes drenched in sweat. The sun was out today in full force , so we decided to rest under a tree.
We had not had breakfast because we left very early. When we sat down, I took the bag containing our food and brought out some food for us to eat.
I gave Devon two beef Jerkies , a granola, an Apple and a bottle of water while I served the same for myself.
We ate in silence and after eating , we waited a little letting the sun hide before we continued our journey.
“ It's getting really dark” I said looking around as the birds and crickets continued their competitions
“ Yes it is” he replied “ but I think a pack is nearby”
“ Why do you say so ?” I asked genuinely curious
“ When we were on her way, I saw a lot of traps ” he continued “if there are traps here , we are probably in a hunting ground, so a pack should be nearby”
“ Oh “ I chucked “ I didn't even notice”
And true to his words, there was a pack close by , but it was like nothing I had ever seen , there was a great wall surrounding it and it had a barred gate , which allowed us to see what was inside.
We opened the gate and entered, the place was full with different kinds of forbidden things. We both looked at ourselves and realization dawned on us .We are at the forbidden clan.
