Raven's POV
I hate this body, it's not even sick but it's weaker than I was at the start. I have been moving silently for the past two days since the Alpha left, watching everything and making sure I was aware of every single thing happening.
The Beta had woken us up very early this morning, the sky still held the darkness from the night. He gathered all of us, maids and guards, to the servant's hall.
His face was gloomy, and his words failed him. I stared at him hoping he would just get on with the information and I could leave this place.
If I could have accessed all my powers in this body, I'll start with those senior maids. I turned to look at them , and they were smiling sheepishly at the Beta trying to impress him.
“ The Alpha is dead” he finally said
All the thoughts in my head died down and it was just the Beta's voice echoing in my head. It was too good to be true, I bent down my head to hide the smirk on my face.
The hall broke into a wail, as the maids cried loudly, tears streaming down their face , the guards on the other hand bent their heads in sorrow.
“ He was a good Alpha”
“ A compassionate leader”
They went on and on with the praises for their Alpha, but to me he was a weak man, choosing love over his people every single time. Now Skyler was mine immediately she came back here. I would have taken her right from her brother's pack , but this body can't access all my powers and it would be too dangerous to fight in this state
The halls finally quieted down and what remained were the sobs and sniff of the maids.
“ The Luna would like for this to be private, till she comes back,to properly inform the people.” he continued
This raised whispers among the servants,
“ Quiet down” one of the senior maids shouted, and the hall fell into silence
One of the maids, the exact one who pretended to be Skyler on the night of the attack, raised her hands , and the Beta nodded towards as a sign she could start speaking
“ How did the Alpha die” she asked
The servants nodded in agreement to her question, and several questions started flying in.
“He was critical, but he was alive when he left with the Luna”
“ Does the Luna have anything to do with this”
The questions made me smile ,the people did not fully trust her before and now with the Alpha dead, in her brother's pack, a war may likely break out .
Beta Brandon looked towards the last person who asked a question, it was one of the guards who who dedicated to serving the king
“ You can be executed for treason for what you said just now , refrain from speaking untrue words”
He turned back to the rest of the servants “I know the death of the Alpha was sudden, but we would have to wait for the Luna to come back, and explain everything clearly to us”
“ But for now , she's not returning to the palace, " the letter said. She has been in the forest with his body grieving alone, praying to the moon goddess to bring the Alpha back. She has refused water and food, promising to kill anybody that disturbs a prayer to the moon goddess.”
The hall was silent once again but I could hear the whispers of some people.This information made me happier than finding out Devon died.
He was a strong man in terms of strength, I'm sure someone from the Blue moon pack betrayed him, but that wasn't any of my business. This provided the perfect opportunity for me to gain my freedom .
She was alone and broken in the forest ,her brother may have guards secretly watching her, but I could bypass them.
How would I leave the palace, without getting unnoticed, then an idea finally came to me.
“ Are there any more questions” the Beta asked , his voice disrupting my thoughts
The servants looked round at themselves, and when nobody ventured to ask a question , the senior maid spoke up “ No Beta , we would go back to our duties and make sure no other ear hears this”
“ Very good then,” he replied “ you are all dismissed”
I waited back as the servants dispersed, when the hall was cleared , I walked gently to the Beta, my eyes filled with tears and when I got to him , I fell down on my knees , folded my hands and begged
“ Pls Beta Brandon, I really need to go be with Luna, I can only imagine how much pain she was going through.”
He shook his “ I can't do that , that would be like sending you to your early grave,she specifically asked to be left alone.”
“ Yes I know” I continued , the tears in my face flowing freely “you may not know, but I am not only her personal maid , I'm also the Luna's friend , I was her first friend when she came to this palace a scared little girl, I was with her through all the tribulations and sufferings she went through. For every time she was arrested I was by her side, and I promise you she wants me by her side right now.”
He pondered on it, his face gloomy as he stroked the table. I was ready to stay here convincing him all day , when he finally agreed. It was easier than I expected, I thought he would have needed a lot of convincing, he was truly worried about the safety of the Luna
“ You can go” he said “ but you have to be very careful, I'll send two guards with you for safety Incase the Luna tries”
He didn't complete his sentence, but I knew the implications of it .
