Skyler's POV
“The meeting is over” I finally said walking out of the hall
Convincing Devon wouldn't be that hard, I'll just make up a story for now and tell him the truth when we get to Killian.
When I entered the room, he opened his eyes, immediately alert
“ It's just me” I said gently
I noticed that his sense had become more alert since he woke up , probably blaming himself for what happened
“ You know you don't have to blame yourself” I said as I packed a few clothes in one of our mid sized traveling boxes. I would put our clothes together in one to reduce our luggage , and it would only be for a few days anyways
“Hmm”he swallowed nervously “ why are you packing up our things” he finally asked
“ We are going a trip” I said with a smile
“ A trip? At this time?” He asked
“ We are going to seek out Killian,” I said. “ You're very vulnerable right now and I can't leave you here alone.”
“Oh” he said
“ I placed Beta Brandon as acting Alpha” I added “ and immediately we get there Killian would send more guards to your pack for the safety of your people.”
“ What about the fog, and everything going on here right now” he asked
I thought of how best to answer his questions ,before finally saying “ we hope we stumble upon answers while on our trip.”
He looked straight at me for a while “ I hope we do” he finally said
“ Get some rest” I told him “ we are leaving very early tomorrow.
Ella's POV
The palace was already lively before I woke up , I could hear all the movements even before I opened my eyes.The Alpha was leaving today, he was leaving with Skyler to her brother's pack.
I lay on my bed, praying nobody notices, me missing or coming to knock, I was too tired to involve myself in this preparation, emotionally as well as physically.
The palace had not been this busy for days,not since that very night..
Just then a sharp knock landed on my door, making me flinch.
“ Wake up every single one of you, we have work to do,” Mara, one of the senior maids, said sharply before pushing the door open.
She did not wait for a response,she never did. I knew she didn't like me, not every maid gets to have a room to herself, and here I am, with mine , as a personal maid to the Luna.
I sat up slowly while she started at me with disdain “ Don't you know , we have to make preparation for the Alpha's departure and you're still sleeping” she said
She kept rambling on before she left my room.
The Alpha was leaving for the blue moon pack. Heard he was critical, “ twelve stabs to the side,six on each” that was what the rumors said.
I scoffed quietly as I stood up to prepare, twelve stab wounds and he still lived. Why didn’t he just die? , why didn't he go join my sister?.
I immediately pushed the thought out of my mind as quickly as it came and continued washing my face
The senior maids were already given out orders, their voices loud and sharp, echoing through the palace.
“We need the gift baskets prepared as soon as possible.”
“Fresh herbs, siver carvings, Books as old as time, copper coins for good luck , pack it all up .”
“Nothing should be forgotten.”
The Blue Moon pack was Skyler's brother’s pack , and their healer had a herb that would quicken the Alpha's recovery, that's why everyone was so hyped up.
I joined the others in the preparations , I was assigned to wrapping the gift baskets , and tying them with Ribbon.
“ That should be easy” I muttered under my breath
My hands got to work automatically, but my mind wasn't there, it was everywhere but not in the palace.
Different members of the pack started to arrive in the palace , the elders and members of the council arrived first before different families started coming , the workers in the fields , and the hunters were all presuent in the palace.
They probably came to see the Alpha off , and wish him quick recovery.I watched from a distance where I sat as they stood eager to to see the Alpha
Two older women passed by me whispering and gossiping about the Alpha's attack
“Twelve stab wounds,” one whispered. “The goddess must truly love him .”
I lowered my head and pretended not to hear, “ Why did he survive” the question ringed iny mind once again “ Doesn't the moon goddess lovey sister too, how come she's the one dead”.
My mind traveled back to that fatefull night , earlier this week.I remembered sitting upright in my bed,my heart racing, totally filled with confusion when I heard the emergency alarms.i thought we were under attack from rogues.
I was shocked when I saw Lisa being taken away by the guards, I never expected them to do something as foolish as attacking the palace at night.
By noon, the palace was packed full, the Alpha was brought out briefly, he was heavily guarded and Skyler was by his side. He looked pale and weak , his eyes sunken.
She had become more observant after the attack, she scanned every face carefully that came to give their regards to the Alpha. After they were done ,they took the Alpha back to his room and prepared to leave.
Before they left, I found her near the corridor leading to the Alpha's room, she stood there giving instructions to some guards.
There was a time I could approach her whenever I liked, but now I wasn't sure ofmy footing anymore and I needed to tread carefully,so I approached her slowly , and only called out to her when I noticed her dismissing them “My Luna ,” I said respecttfully, bowing my head slightly. “May I speak with you?”
She turned to me, her eyes settling on my face for some seconds more than necessary
“Yes?” she said with a smile which seemed forced.
“I was wondering,” I began carefully, watching her face for any expression “if I could come along with you to the Blue Moon pack , to assist you, I'll be very useful in relieving the stress of your shoulders”
Her expression hardened instantly
“No.”she said bluntly
I blinked in surprise “I..” before I could complete my word
“No,” she repeated, this time with a smile“You are needed more here , by the way my brother hads a lot of maids in his service.”
She immediately turned away from me and left, her behavior just now felt very strange, and I could feel she was guarding against me, she probably suspects me but has no evidence.
They finally left for the blue moon pack , with three cars filled with gifts and some of the skilled guards.
