Whispers in the Golden Lights
Whispers in the Golden Lights
The night air felt cold and cozy as it brushed against Tracy's skin. She stepped onto the quiet street, pulling her coat tighter around her body.
Street lamps cast soft yellow glows on the pavement. A few people walked by, their footsteps echoing lightly. Some laughed in low voices, while others hurried home with shopping bags in their hands.
The city felt alive but calm, like it held secrets in the shadows. Tracy waved her hand, hoping for a cab to stop. The wind carried a faint smell of rain from earlier that day.
After waiting for some time, a yellow cab finally slowed down in front of her. Tracy moved closer quickly. "I'm going to The Regency Luxe Hotel," she said in a soft voice.
The driver nodded in agreement.
Then Tracy opened the car door and stepped inside gently. She settled into the seat and breathed out softly. She checked the time on her phone. It was already 8 PM. She had missed the time they agreed on. A small worry grew in her chest.
Just then, a message notification lit up her screen. She could read only a little part of it. "Guess you aren't ready. You couldn't even keep time."
That small piece told her it was from Gareth. Tracy clicked on the message and read it fully. Her fingers moved fast as she typed back. "I'm so sorry. I got held up a bit. I will get there soon. Please wait for me." She hit send and slid her phone back into her bag.
The cab moved smoothly through the streets. Low music played from the radio. It was a love song, soft and slow.
The lyrics floated in the air. "I will go any extra mile to make you mine." Tracy listened closely. A gentle smile appeared on her face.
In her mind, she thought about the words. Even a musician could say they would go the extra length for love. So there was nothing wrong if she did the same for Adrian. She wanted him back. She would fight for it.
Tracy turned her head and looked out the window. Tall buildings passed by with their lights shining bright. Her thoughts drifted to Adrian. Old memories came back like warm pictures in her head.
She remembered their dates, the way he laughed at her jokes, and how his hand felt in hers. Those days felt simple and full of hope. Now everything was different, but her heart still pulled her toward him.
"No matter what, I will make you mine, Adrian," she muttered silently to herself. The words felt like a promise in the quiet of the cab.
A few minutes later, the cab stopped. The sudden halt jolted Tracy out of her thoughts. She looked at the driver. He turned to her and said, "Miss, here is your destination. Your payment is fifteen dollars."
Tracy nodded. She reached for her purse, opened it, and took out the money. She handed it to the driver. He took the cash with a small smile. Tracy opened the door and stepped out of the car. The cool night air touched her face again.
The hotel stood elegantly in the night. Its tall walls glowed with golden lights.
Large glass doors reflected the city around it. Beautiful flowers lined the entrance in neat rows. Luxury cars moved in and out of the driveway.
Rich men and women stepped out in fine clothes. Some wore sparkling dresses, others sharp suits. Drivers held doors open for them. The whole place looked like a world of wealth and comfort.
Tracy stood there for a moment. Who she was going to see must be very rich. A confusion started in her mind. If these people had everything, what did they really want from her?
She pushed the thought away and began walking toward the entrance. The moment she stepped inside the hotel, a very expensive and nice scent filled the hallway.
It smelled like fresh flowers mixed with soft wood and clean air. The floors shone under bright lights. Soft music played from hidden speakers. Everything felt calm and grand.
Tracy stopped for a second to take it all in. Then she slid her phone open and sent a message to Gareth. "I am already in the hotel. What room are you in?"
The reply came almost immediately, like he had been waiting for her message all day. Tracy read it. "It's Golden VIP Room 4. We have been waiting all day. Be here soon."
Her heart skipped a beat as she finished reading. How would she react when she saw them in person? She took the worry off her mind and walked toward the reception desk.
A uniformed female receptionist stood there. She bowed slightly when Tracy arrived. "How may I help you, miss? Do you want to book a room?"
Tracy nodded a little. "I am here to see Gareth. His room is Golden Room number 10."
The receptionist smiled politely. "Hold on, ma'am. I need to make a call to confirm." She picked up the office telephone, the kind with a cord and buttons that sat on the desk.
She dialed the number carefully. The call rang for a few minutes. Then a masculine voice answered on the other end. "Who is this?"
"Sir, there is a lady here named Tracy. She says she is here to see you in Golden VIP Room 4. Should I allow her to come up?" the receptionist asked in a clear voice.
Gareth's voice came back quickly. "Yes, let her come in. She is here to see me."
The call ended. The receptionist placed the telephone back in its place. She looked at Tracy and said, "The lift is at the end of the first hallway. It will take you to the golden rooms floor. You will find the room there."
Tracy nodded. She turned and began walking down the hallway toward the lift. Her shoes made soft sounds on the polished floor. The air felt warmer here, and the scent followed her.
As she waited for the lift doors to open, her mind raced with questions. What would happen next? Would this meeting change everything? The doors slid open with a quiet ding. She stepped inside and pressed the button. The lift started to rise smoothly.
Little did Tracy know that behind the golden doors of Room 4, secrets waited that could pull her deeper into a world she never expected. Her heart beat faster as the lift climbed higher. This night was only beginning.
