CONFINES OF THE MIND

CONFINES OF THE MIND
Chapter 175
Third person's pov.
No one knew the internal strife Claudia was going through as she laid on the dirt, the witches beside her draining her of the energy in order to complete the spell.

The wolves barraged through the barrier which was wearing out by each second and would break any time as soon as the witches holding them up were already at their wits end.

It was as though after losing their leader, they became even more lost, more feral and angrier than before.

While the others fought for their lives dearly, Claudia also faced a similar dilemma, maybe even more dangerous than theirs as it regarded the end of the world itself.

Deep within the confines of Claudia's mind, a battle ensued, her consciousness registered in a world like none, one she barely recognized.

But one thing she did recognize was the dark glowing orb before her, wrapped around golden chains.

Her breath was caught in her throat, especially after her gaze zoned in on the chains.

No, no, Nooo.

They were slowly coming off and the darkness that had been locked would be lost soon.

Her heart raced as she glanced around but there was nothing or no one that could help her.

“Not now, please, not now,” Claudia knew the dangers of what would happen if the darkness was released.

It meant the time for her to finally make a choice had finally arrived.

She tried to get the chains to stop moving, but that didn't work, holding it was out of the question as it was more of her consciousness.

The fear was instilled deep in her heart as no matter what she tried failed miserably, the chains still loosened on its own accord.

And the darkness increased, and the light which had roamed free seems to be reducing as well. This was a sad result of the spell that was being carried out.

The last time a spell like this was carried out, Claudia hadn't made the silly mistake of  using dark magic.

She regretted her decision more than anything, why did she always have to make the hard decisions.

She cried out to the moon goddess for her help as there was nothing she could do that would make the darkness recede, it felt like it had come to take.

It has come for the life she had taken, the would she had sucked out and sent to the great beyond. She might have regretted using such powers but what she used them for, she didn't have a single regret.

If she hadn't, perhaps they wouldn't have been where they were, perhaps all of them would already be dead.

All she could do was watch as the chains loosened even faster and the darkness grew even more, and the light slowly disappeared.

For some reason, she surmised that her time in the confinement of her mind was up and she felt herself being suctioned away.

There was nothing left to do than gaze at the darkness with despair and let herself be pulled from her mind.

Once again, she had regained consciousness but this time, a heavy feeling settled on her chest, like a boulder that couldn't be moved.

The girls still held onto her hands and the others were even worse than before.

But before she could think of this any further, she felt the darkness as it spread inside of her, and at once, she knew that the chains that had caged the magic was at the last of its stages of being loosed.

She glanced at everyone on the field, no matter how hard she tried to push it down, it was like flames that consumed her from the soles of her feet to the top of her head.

She genuinely wondered what decision she was going to make and was worried if she would make the wrong one when it came to it.

What were the consequences of her actions that were rumoured to set the world a hundred years backward.

Claudia realised she may never get to see her family again, she may never get to see Warren and her friend which she had just made on this long journey.

It always came down to this, how much she had lost a lot on this journey and she really wanted to blame the moon goddess for the oath she had set for her even before she was born.

It was slowly rising inside of her, slowly eating at her and she felt her subconscious state losing a battle it never had the chance of winning in the first place.

She felt the danger that was about to be unleashed unbeknownst to the surrounding friend and foe around her.

Claudia gritted her teeth, throwing her head back as the last bit of chains finally came loose and the darkness covered the light, stretching out so vast and  as it had been locked for longer than it needed to be.

A shrill scream tore out from her lungs, filled with agony, anger and pain. Her muscles didn't feel like they belonged to her.

Her mind felt the same way and when the darkness had taken over her, it was as though she was a different person entirely.

Her eyes turned pitch black and soulless, with a blank stare, she wretched her hands wash front the girls and tossed them away with the flick of her wrist.

The girls screamed from the sheer force as they rolled on the dirt before coming to a stop.

This had garnered the attention of the others, narrowing their gazes in confusion on Claudia who shot to her feet and dusted her clothes.

Some stared even harder in confusion wondering if the spell was complete, while others who knew stared in horror, taking a careful step backwards away from her.

Their hearts shivered with the impending and greater danger that stood before them.

“Dear God!” Finch whispered in terror as what he had feared had finally come through
