Chapter 162 - Contract Wife Morning, My Darling CEO

Third Person POV

Cassidy’s heart ached instantly and she let out a soft sigh, trying to hide the pain she felt within her.

“If it’s something you don’t want to talk about, then you don’t have to,” Jasmine said with a gentle smile, but her eyes still regarded Cassidy curiously.

Cassidy sighed and gazed at herself in the mirror.

“You won’t believe me if I tell you,” Cassidy said.

“Try me,”

“Well, it's an old-fashioned reason. Something to do with whether a woman should take care of her family or pursue her dream career. If it were you, what choice would you make?”

“Do you even need to ask?” Jasmine scoffed. “I’m going to chase my dream and build my career. Men will come, and they will betray you and leave you someday, but when you invest in your dreams and build your career, you’ll get rich returns in the end. So, it’s a safe investment,”.

Almost everyone had opposed her choice last night. Today, it was refreshing to find someone who supported her and it put Cassidy in a good mood.

“What about you? What's your dream?”

Jasmine colored with embarrassment but soon her eyes became wistful as she stared off in the distance.

“My dream is to marry into a wealthy family,” she said resolutely.

Cassidy almost spat out a mouthful of water. She quickly wiped dabbed at the corners of her mouth and turned to Jasmine in surprise.

“Why? It's not like you’re broke or did you run short of money?”

“Far from it,” Jasmine raised her chin defiantly giving Cassidy an annoyed look before sighing “I am not broke, neither am I short of money. No matter how I put it, I’m not sure you’d understand, Cass. You live in a fairy tale world, the kind every woman wants, but I am living in reality,”.

“How can you tell that my life is a fairy tale, you don’t stay with me?” Cassidy argued.

“I don’t need to, Cass. I’ve seen so much hardship in this world and I’ve experienced them first-hand. If I end up with a super-rich man, I won't have to work anymore. I'll be popular, live lavishly, buy all the bags I want, and travel wherever I desire. I’ll stop worrying about the future,”.

Cassidy stared at Jasmine, and her heart squeezed in pity.

It was true that everyone had values with which they navigate life, but Jasmine’s values were one that if heard, a lot of people would despise her. But Cassidy wasn’t going to judge her either, because, for what it's worth, Jasmine had got to be the most genuine woman she had seen all her life.

She owned her truth and wasn’t afraid to say it.

Cassidy nodded, “That makes sense, but have you thought about what most of these wealthy men are like? Many are either unattractive or much older, and you have to force yourself to fall in love with them. Doesn't that sound hard to swallow?”

“What can I do then? What other options are there?” She shrugged helplessly. "Do you think there are many perfectly perfect, handsome, wealthy, and loving men like your Chad in the world? They're all pretty much the same. My requirements are simple: have loads of money, don’t look down at my humble roots, and have a little respect for me,”.

She said it casually, but there was loneliness in her eyes. Cassidy had heard bits and pieces about her background; it seemed she came from the countryside and ended up in Wellspring by mistake. She must have had a tough life growing up.

Cassidy reached over and pinched her cheek gently, her eyes filled with warmth.

“You're too hard on yourself. You're one of the most exceptional humans I’ve ever met,”.

Jasmine had never been called “exceptional” before. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she waved her hand awkwardly trying to make light of Cassidy’s statement.

“Of course, I am. I'm the most beautiful woman in the entertainment industry, and out of my good graces, I dub you the second most beautiful woman, a rank after me,”.

Cassidy smiled and nodded.

“Anything you say, goddess. Are you ready to go now? Even beautiful people need to work,”.

Jasmine shot her a playful glare.

“Really, I thought I was going to be in my dream world for a while. Did you have to come and spoil everything for me?”

“I was only a subtle reminder, most beautiful,” Cassidy teased.

“Fine, I get it;” Jasmine sighed “We’ll leave as soon as I’m done with my makeup,”.

Jasmine's makeup took over half an hour but was hurriedly completed with Cassidy's repeated nagging. They rushed downstairs and got into the car. Since Jasmine was feeling lazy and didn't want to drive, Cassidy took the driver's seat and immediately drove out, hoping they would get to the shooting set in good time.

Since Cassidy was trying to beat time, there was no conversation going on in the car. Suddenly, Jasmine broke the silence.

“Cass, why aren't you a man?”

Her words filled up the silence and hung in the air.

Cassidy shot her a withering glare.

“Are you sick? What the hell are you talking about?”

Jasmine’s expression was warm and wistful but her eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint. As if that wasn’t enough, she continued speaking as she said another word that nearly made Cassidy vomit blood.

“If you were a man, I'd marry you!”

Startled at her sudden confession, Cassidy’s eyes left the road for just a second to look at her and hit the brakes just in time to avoid hitting the car in front of her as she stopped abruptly. She turned to Jasmine, her voice trembling in fear.

“Can you stop being weird? Do you know how many people – normal people would be scared to death by your statement?”

Jasmine playfully stuck out her tongue, her eyes coy and innocent. Cassidy gritted her teeth as she stared at her with incredulity, turned her face and was about to resume driving when a familiar car caught her attention.

It was Chad’s car.

He was sitting in the driver’s seat, his handsome features exuded power and commanded authority that would make anyone think twice before crossing him. To his right, on the passenger seat, was a woman dressed in cheongsam Chinese attire.

Although Cassidy could see just her side profile, she could tell that the woman was an incredible beauty.

“What are you looking at?” Jasmine asked curiously, staring in the direction she was looking.

She could only see cars lined up waiting to weave out of the traffic and nothing more.

Cassidy’s cheerful expression a moment ago turned bloody. Her heart was stuffy and a pain lodged in her chest, she couldn’t breathe. Her hands holding the steering wheel felt weak and tears welled up in her eyes. She lowered her gaze, hoping to hide the tears from her eyes and voice.

“It’s nothing, let’s just go,”.

Chad had arranged to meet with Qui Fei and Henry at Nolan’s private hospital.

When they arrived, Henry, who was clad in a white doctor’s uniform and gloves, came out to greet them.

There was a dangerous glint in his eyes when he approached them as he stared from Chad to Qui Fei.

“Did Mr West have a good time last night? Did you make him happy?”

Chad looked gloomy and patiently replied.

“The person you choose is naturally good. I've already done as you asked. What about the heart? I'd like to see it,”.

“What’s the hurry?” Henry wriggled his brows at him and continued calmly “I have to run an examination first before I can give you the heart,”.

When he finished speaking, he beckoned to Qui Fei and she obediently went in his direction.

That was when it dawned on Chad what Henry was intending to do. Without holding back, he reached out and grasped Qui Fei’s wrist, tugging her back at him.

“Henry,” he called sternly, “What do you want to do?”

Henry's hand gently trailed down Qu Fei’s waist before his gaze met Chad’s blank expression.

“I hate being cheated, especially by those close to me. Chad, I consider you a friend, but I was afraid that you might be trying to deceive me. So, I want to run a simple examination to check whether you touched this woman last night,”.

Qui Fei’s body shook with fear as she looked up to Chad for help.

Chad’s expression didn’t change a bit but his grip on her wrist tightened as he pulled her closer to him.

“Henry, don't push this too far. She's my woman and you know my disposition. I don't like it when others try to get their hands on the things that belong to me. It not only irks me, it irritates me,”.

Henry regarded him with a deep, searching look before nodding slowly.

“Okay, I’ll believe you this time, Chad. Come with me,” Henry said finally.

But what Henry wanted was never an examination of any kind. He only wanted something he could hold on to. Some leverage of some sort, perhaps.

Chad followed him into a ward. Inside lay a skinny woman connected to a life support machine. Her condition was so critical that it was obvious that she didn’t have much time to live.

“I’ve already checked it for you. She has the same rare blood type as Jada, so she’s a perfect match. If you intend to take her, you should hurry, as you know time is essential for a live organ transplant,”.

“Yeah,” Chad nodded.

However, a thought crossed his mind.

“Does Nelson know about this?”

Henry smiled,

“Why would I let him know? Otherwise, he'd surely try to kill this person,”.

“Can I take her with me today?” Chad inquired.

Henry nodded his head, giving Chad an inscrutable gaze. He said,

“Yes, but only if you take Qu Fei with you,”.

Chad's expression turned cold, and he fixed Henry with a piercing stare. After a moment of silence, he said nothing more.

He needed to leave immediately to arrange the transplant for Jada. But before that, he felt a pressing need to see Cassidy again.
