Chapter 303 This Man Is Terrifyingly Overbearing
Every breath was filled with his scent.
Normally, she would definitely push back.
But the moment she raised her hand, her mind flooded with memories of being overpowered by him. Whenever he wanted to force himself on her, he would grab her hands and lock them behind her back. There was no way she could break free.
Her strength meant nothing to him.
So in the end, Nora gave up resisting.
She didn't even want to fight with Steven. She changed her approach—no resistance, no response, just complete indifference.
Steven was very unsatisfied. She looked obedient but was actually resisting him to her core. That face showed no pleasure, no anger, as if lifeless, letting him take whatever he wanted.
A fire burned in Steven's chest. He lifted her straight onto the kitchen counter and bit her lip hard.
Nora frowned in pain but said nothing.
Steven suddenly felt extremely bored. After a moment of silence, he let her go. "What's your point?"
"If you want to know, send someone to investigate. Aren't you so capable? Find out the truth first, then get mad at me. If I really wronged you, I'll accept whatever you do to me. But if I didn't do anything, will you feel guilty and regret your actions?"
"Guilty and regret?" He narrowed his long eyes. "This is just fun between partners. Where's the guilt and regret?"
"Maybe it's fun to you, but to me, it's humiliation."
Steven froze, staring into her eyes. "You don't like me kissing you?"
Nora couldn't stand his gaze and turned her head away. "A humiliating kiss—who would like that?"
She had never said such harsh words to him before.
Steven looked at her for a while.
Nora's eyes were clear, as if she had no feelings for him anymore. Her eyes held only endless desolation.
Steven suddenly didn't dare look into her eyes. His voice softened, gentle and affectionate. "I know you're angry about Scarlett. I'll call her and have her explain to you."
Nora frowned and refused. "Don't do that, or it'll look like I was badmouthing her behind her back."
She hadn't done anything at all.
"I just don't want you to misunderstand."
"It doesn't matter anymore." Nora's voice was very soft.
Steven didn't hear clearly. He looked up at her. "What did you say?"
"Nothing. Just don't call her."
"Can we stop fighting?" He hugged her, his voice gentle, as if coaxing her, yet with an undeniable forcefulness.
Steven's possessiveness was terrifyingly strong.
Nora's body stiffened. She said coldly, "We're not fighting. I just want to be alone."
"Okay." He was agreeable and stopped pressing, glancing at her once before leaving.
Nora busied herself in the kitchen, making brownies twice, but wasn't satisfied with either batch.
The chestnut flavor wasn't strong enough. She flipped through her notebook looking for solutions.
Before she knew it, it was past one in the morning.
Steven had finished his shower and waited in the master bedroom for three hours. Seeing that she still hadn't come to bed, he came out to the living room. "It's already past one. Aren't you going to sleep?"
"Not done yet." Nora was completely focused on figuring out how to perfect this dessert. "I'm not sleeping yet. You go ahead."
Steven stood at a distance for a while, then walked over and took her hand. "Stop working. It's past one. Go take a shower and work on it tomorrow."
Nora glanced at him indifferently. "It's not like I have anything to do tomorrow anyway."
"You still need to sleep." Steven turned off the lights, making her go to bed.
Nora had no choice but to put everything in the dishwasher first. After several hours of experimenting, she was indeed tired. Her whole neck was sore.
She went into the bathroom, took a quick shower, then returned to the guest bedroom and closed the door.
Hearing the door close, Steven opened his eyes in the master bedroom. His handsome face turned cold in an instant.
She just went to sleep in the guest room like that?
She wouldn't come over here to talk and ease the tension between them?
Steven sat up and stayed silent for a while.
Then he went to the guest room to find her.
Nora was lying on her side in bed, not yet asleep, scrolling through her phone looking for chestnut brownie tutorials.
The space beside her dipped slightly.
Steven got into bed and hugged her from behind.
Kisses slowly slid down from behind her ear.
Nora lowered her eyes, looking disgusted. "That's enough, isn't it?"
"What's wrong?" Steven's cool eyes looked at her.
Nora said, "I'm busy right now. Don't touch me, okay?"
"Just kissing you." Steven held her tighter, saying gently, "You smell nice, and you feel good to hold."
Despite his gentleness, Nora's whole face showed impatience.
He kissed her a couple more times, not satisfied with just that. His hands started getting restless.
Nora really couldn't take it anymore and kicked off the blanket. "I find you disgusting. Can't you tell?"
Steven's movements stopped. His pupils darkened as he stared at her.
Nora felt her scalp tingle under his stare. She tried to get out of bed but was held down.
The man's tall body covered hers.
Nora was prepared. She jabbed the needle in her hand at him, piercing Steven's wrist.
Steven released her in pain and looked down to see several silver needles stuck in his wrist.
"You stabbed me with needles?" Steven turned to look at her.
Nora backed away in panic, her eyes frightened. "You were forcing yourself on me, so I can fight back. This is self-defense."
When she prepared the silver needles, she wanted to teach him a lesson, to show him she wasn't easy to bully.
But she hadn't expected that Steven would pull out the needles right in front of her. Blood splattered out, and he seemed completely indifferent, looking at her with a dark, sinister gaze.
"Get out." Nora was scared of his current expression—extremely dark and sinister.
Steven said nothing. Not only did he not leave, he moved closer to her.
This atmosphere was truly terrifying.
Nora's heart pounded like a drum. The next second, she was pinned to the bed, like a helpless little lamb with no ability to resist.
Nora was about to cry.
"So what should we do?" Steven looked down at her, his eyes cold with a suffocating chill. "Even if you find me disgusting, you're tied to me for life."
Nora's face turned pale.
Steven grabbed her chin. Dark hostility brewed in his light eyes as he smiled. "Nora, I'm telling you this for the last time. If I say you can't leave, then you can't leave. I married you. You're mine. You're my wife for life. If you behave, I'll give you everything you want. But if you don't..."
He didn't finish the sentence, but the warning was heavy. He added, "Besides, you know my secret. How could I possibly let you go easily?"
His tone was slow, and the gloom around him seemed to drown everything.
Nora's face turned pale with fear.
His secret...
That secret about taking revenge on the York family!
Only now did Nora understand—sometimes it's better not to know things, or they could be deadly when things go wrong!
"I'll never tell anyone about that. I promise." Nora wasn't stupid. She knew such a big matter couldn't be spoken of carelessly.
Steven glanced at her, his eyes unfathomable. "Good that you know. You need to keep this secret for me."
"Also." He touched her head, speaking deliberately. "You said you'd stay with me forever. You need to keep that promise."
Nora suddenly felt confused.
Was he refusing to divorce because he was afraid she'd leak that secret, or did he really not want to let her go?
But she also knew that Steven's personality was flawed, shaped by the environment he grew up in.
Suspicious, cold, obsessive.
When she behaved well, he would act like a normal person—emotionally stable, gentle and caring.
But once she resisted, his other side would emerge.
Nora felt like he had two personalities.
"I understand. I'm tired now. Can I sleep?" Nora was too exhausted to think anymore.
She'd just have to leave it for now. Don't try to solve problems that can't be solved.
Once he got his revenge, or developed something with Scarlett, he'd naturally want to separate from her.
Better to get along peacefully for now, to avoid triggering his dark, obsessive side.
Steven's cold pupils looked at her. "My hand is bleeding. Bandage it for me."
On his slender wrist were several bloody needle marks she had made.
Nora thought about it. Better not to fight with this obsessive man head-on.
She got up, found the first aid kit, wiped his hand with iodine, and put bandages on it.
Throughout the process, Steven watched her. The man in dark loungewear looked handsome yet gloomy.
Nora carefully finished bandaging and said to him, "Done. Go to sleep."
"I want to sleep here." Steven looked at her bed.
"Then you sleep here, and I'll sleep in the master bedroom?"
"You sleep here too." He pulled her down, pressed her onto the bed, and insisted on holding her waist.
Nora froze, but fortunately he made no further moves. He just leaned against her shoulder, his voice flat. "Sleep."
Nora closed her eyes but couldn't fall asleep.
After what seemed like forever, the hand on her waist moved away.
Nora kept her body stiff for a while, then carefully turned her head. Steven had returned to that initial defensive sleeping position.
After she brought up divorce, he seemed to have lost trust in her, his psychology becoming defensive.
Nora let out a soft sigh.
Actually, she didn't want to hurt him either.
Even though his recent behavior made her sad and hurt...
But after all, he was a man she had loved. She remembered all the good things he'd done for her.
Back then with her career, with Olivia's divorce—without Steven's help, Olivia might have really been driven to death by the Reed family.
The punishment the Reed family received later was also Steven's doing behind the scenes.
People say you can't just remember someone's good points, but you also can't just remember someone's bad points and forget all their good ones.
Looking at Steven, Nora felt somewhat lost.
She just didn't want to be in pain anymore, so she wanted to leave this marriage. Because whoever feels pain wants change.
She felt pain, so she wanted to change, wanted to leave, wanted peace and freedom.
But seeing him like this, she felt suffocated inside, as if she'd done something terrible, lost something, and couldn't help feeling melancholy...
