Chapter 102 The Owner of the Blue Shirt
The two met at the entrance of the residential complex.
Nora took the watch her grandmother had given her, wiped it, and fastened it on her wrist. "Thank you so much!"
If it had been dropped somewhere else, someone might have picked it up and kept it for themselves.
Philip looked at her, his eyes deep. "If you want to thank me, buy me a coffee?"
Nora was stunned for a moment. "Sure."
Philip had made a special trip to bring her the watch, so she should thank him.
She looked around.
There happened to be a café right at the entrance of the complex. Nora said, "Is this café okay?"
"Sure." Philip had something to say to her; anywhere would do.
"Let's go inside and sit." Nora led him in, and her phone rang.
She took it out and saw it was Steven.
"Hello," Nora answered the phone. The two were queuing to buy coffee.
Philip looked at the black coffee menu on the counter. "Nora, what do you want to drink?"
"I'll have an oat milk latte. What about you?"
"I'll have a macchiato."
"Okay." Nora said to the staff while on the phone, "One oat milk latte, one macchiato, for here."
Hearing "for here," Steven's face darkened. "Where did you go?"
"I'm treating my friend to coffee at the café at the entrance of my complex," Nora answered.
Steven snorted. "Philip?"
Nora glanced at Philip. He smiled at her. Nora felt a bit embarrassed and covered her phone to say "yes" to Steven.
So she really did go meet him.
Steven hung up with a cold face.
Nora walked away a bit. Just as she was about to say something to him, the call ended.
Nora felt a bit helpless, thinking she'd just talk to him properly when she got back.
The two found a seat and sat down.
At this moment, Steven had already found the place and was standing at the café entrance watching them.
Nora took a sip of coffee and asked with a smile, "You dare to drink coffee at night? Aren't you afraid you won't be able to sleep?"
"It's fine, I usually go to bed very late." Philip sat across from her, his handsome face looking at her.
Nora felt a bit awkward. Although Philip was quite good-looking, she felt very uncomfortable facing him.
Not like being with Steven—even when he had a cold face, she could still chatter away non-stop.
"Do you..." Philip glanced at her. "Do you still remember me?"
He finally asked.
If he didn't say it, he'd always feel regretful.
"I really can't remember." Nora tried hard to think, but she really couldn't remember.
"What about this?" Philip took off his glasses.
Nora looked carefully at his face. "It seems... a bit familiar."
A smile flashed in Philip's eyes. "Think again."
Steven stood outside, unable to hear what they were talking about, but he saw Philip take off his glasses and lean close to Nora to talk to her.
What else could this be but a date?
Steven's face was extremely gloomy.
Nora's eyes widened as she pointed at Philip. "I remember now, you're that boy!"
The boy who saved her from the river when she was 15!
Philip heard that she had finally remembered, and his mood was very excited. "You finally remember?"
"You didn't wear glasses before, but now you do, so I didn't recognize you." Nora was very emotional. She had always wanted to thank that boy, and she never expected he was right beside her.
"I only started wearing glasses in college," Philip answered.
That year, she was 15, he was 18.
Actually, they were from neighboring schools—she was in middle school, he was in high school. The two schools were next to each other; one was a regular middle school, the other was a key high school.
Every morning, Philip would see her buying breakfast at the breakfast shop, eating while reading.
Philip had wanted to get to know her back then.
But because he was in his senior year and about to go abroad, he suppressed that flutter in his heart, not wanting a relationship with no future.
So he just secretly paid attention to her without disturbing her.
On graduation day, the school road was flooded by heavy rain, making it hard to tell the road from the river. Nora wasn't careful and stepped into the river.
She tumbled in, struggling and calling for help in the heavy rain.
Without thinking, Philip threw down his backpack and jumped into the river to save her.
Since the girls' school uniform was white, it would show her underwear when wet. Philip gave her the blue shirt from his backpack to drape over herself. After sending her home, he went abroad the next day.
He stayed abroad for 5 or 6 years, dedicating himself to research. Many big foreign companies wanted to hire him with high salaries.
His family also owned a famous large corporation.
But Philip didn't like restrictive work. He liked researching algorithms and developing games. His algorithms and the games he developed earned him more money than he could spend, but his parents always worried he would become isolated, insisting he go out and do something.
Originally, he refused, but one day he ran into Nora. He recognized her at a glance, followed her, and saw her enter a company called Apex Technologies Corporation.
He thought Nora was an employee of Apex Technologies Corporation, so he told his parents he wanted to work at Apex Technologies Corporation.
He had been waiting for Nora to recognize him, but obviously, Nora didn't.
"Sorry, I'm a bit face-blind, and it's been too long, so I didn't remember." Nora felt a bit embarrassed.
This look, in Steven's eyes, was blushing.
His face grew darker and darker.
Nora felt a gaze staring at her from behind, inexplicably sinister.
She felt something was off and turned her head, catching a glimpse of a black clothing corner flashing past the door.
Steven left with a cold face.
Although he had saved her, they had only met once, years ago. Nora hadn't remembered what Philip looked like.
"But I've kept that shirt all along." She had always kept her lifesaver's belongings.
Philip was very surprised. "You still have that shirt?"
"Of course, you're my lifesaver. How could I throw away your things?" If it weren't for him back then, she might have drowned.
"I didn't expect you to still have my clothes."
Philip took a sip of coffee, his eyes full of bright smiles.
"Yes, it's at my place. How about I go up and get it for you now?" Nora wanted to go home and get that shirt.
But Philip refused. "Next time."
That way, there would be another chance to meet.
"Okay." Nora smiled. "When I go to the market area, I'll bring it to you at Brilliant Star."
Philip frowned slightly.
Why did Nora seem so clueless? Couldn't she say they should have dinner together next time when she returns?
But Nora didn't know what he was thinking. She said with emotion, "Who would have thought that after 8 years, we'd become colleagues?"
It was kind of funny when you think about it.
Philip had been at the company for over a month, and she had never recognized him.
Maybe it was because they weren't familiar with each other. Although they occasionally exchanged a few words, they never got close.
But knowing he was her lifesaver made her feel much warmer toward him.
After sitting for a while, it was almost ten o'clock. Nora said, "I need to go back."
"Okay." Philip got up to see her off.
The two walked to the door.
Nora said, "This is far enough. You should go back. Drive carefully."
"Okay." Philip smiled at her, got in his car, and left.
Nora was in a pretty good mood.
After so many years, she had actually found her lifesaver. The feeling was very wonderful.
