Chapter 47 It Turns Out She Cured His Headache
Steven furrowed his brow. "Can you keep it down? I've got a headache."
"Oops, sorry," Nora said, feeling a bit embarrassed as she glanced at the clock. Twenty minutes had already passed.
She put down her phone and said, "Steven, time's up. Let me take out the needles."
He nodded.
Nora sat back on the bed, cradling his head.
Even though he was awake now, she kept holding him out of habit.
Steven didn't stop her. He quietly let her hold him, inhaling the scent of roses from her. He smiled slightly. "So every time I come here drunk, you take care of me like this?"
In the past, whenever he came over, he was always completely wasted and brought by James.
He was so drunk he had no idea how Nora took care of him.
Today was the first time he woke up in the middle of it.
If not for this, he wouldn't have known how capable she was.
She even knew acupuncture and took care of him meticulously, treating him very well.
Except for one thing—she was nice to every guy.
"Yeah," Nora responded softly, her voice gentle. "I see you often have headaches. Have you had a check-up?"
Steven remained silent.
He had had check-ups, but no cause was found.
A doctor once said his problem was congenital.
If the guess was correct, his mother had been drugged while pregnant with him.
But he never expected that the wife he unintentionally married would relieve this pain for him. It was she who saved him... Thinking of this, he held her hand.
Nora was taken aback. "Um, the needles are out. You should rest. I need to get some sleep, too."
It was almost dawn after all this fuss.
Steven saw the red veins in her eyes, clearly exhausted from staying up all night. He nodded, "Go ahead."
The next day.
Steven woke up, but Nora was still asleep.
Usually, Nora cooked, and the house would be bustling in the morning.
Today, there was no sound at all.
It was very quiet.
Steven felt a bit out of place. He turned over, and there was no hangover soup on the nightstand. He frowned and called out, "Nora..."
His voice was hoarse, and his throat hurt.
Probably caught a cold last night.
But he didn't know how he got a cold. His body ached as he got out of bed, noticing several bruises on himself.
How did these happen?
Steven had completely forgotten about the drunken fall last night.
He walked out of the room.
No one in the kitchen, no one in the living room.
He went into Nora's room.
Nora was hugging a long body pillow, her sleeping posture terrible.
Steven glanced at her and felt a bit disgusted.
With such a sleeping posture, he didn't want to share a bed with her, or he'd end up being that body pillow.
But her sleeping face was still very pretty, her side profile clean and flawless.
Steven lowered his head and watched her for a while, unable to help but smile.
Seeing a bruise on the back of her hand, Steven frowned.
On the desk was the ointment he bought last night. Steven picked it up, sat by her bed, and applied some ointment to her hand.
The slap mark on her face had faded a lot. Steven also applied some ointment there.
He had never treated any woman this gently before.
All because she gave him acupuncture.
As he applied the ointment, Nora smelled the medicinal scent, furrowed her brow, and opened her eyes.
She was met with Steven's incredibly handsome face.
And the conspicuous bruise on his forehead.
That was from his fall last night.
Nora felt a bit guilty and softly asked, "What are you doing here?"
She had just woken up, her voice soft and sweet.
Steven's Adam's apple bobbed.
His hand was still on her face. He raised it, showing her the ointment, "I'm putting this on the slap mark on your face. And your hand, such a big bruise. How did it happen? Did Bianca do it yesterday?"
Nora looked down, seeing the bruise on her hand. Her face turned resentful. "It was you."
"Me?"
"Yeah, last night when I was about to give you acupuncture, you threw me off the bed. I hit my hand on the nightstand."
Steven raised an eyebrow. So it was him. "So that's why you kissed me last night?"
Nora thought, "Why bring that up again?"
Her face flushed, a bit embarrassed. "If I didn't kiss you, you would've thrown me off the bed ten times. You're hard to deal with."
Steven couldn't help but laugh, his gaze deep. "You're quite resourceful, knowing how to make me behave."
Nora felt there was a hint of flirtation in Steven's words.
Nora spoke softly, "Trial and error. Good thing it worked, or I wouldn't dare get close to you."
He suddenly leaned in.
His handsome face was very close to hers.
Nora's breath hitched.
Steven smiled. "No one has ever gotten this close to me."
Nora felt shy, blinking her eyes. "How could that be? Every time you come over, you're always drunk. I've taken care of you many times."
"Really, I learned sleep defense techniques." Even when asleep or dreaming, he was highly alert.
Usually, no one could get close to him.
He never expected a kiss from Nora would make him behave.
Maybe he was lonely inside, like a desolate forest, wanting someone to get close, to warm him, to keep him company.
"Seriously?" Nora's eyes showed surprise. "No one else can get close to you?"
"Yeah." He nodded.
Nora was stunned, looking into his beautiful eyes.
They quietly stared at each other.
The atmosphere started to change.
For some reason, as long as their gaze locked for more than a second, the air around them would become different.
Nora lowered her long lashes, softly asking, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I don't know." He just didn't want to look away.
Nora felt her face getting hot, her fingers gripping the blanket slightly. "Does your head still hurt?"
"It doesn't hurt anymore, but I think I caught a cold. My throat hurts."
Nora remembered he had been lying at the door for over two hours last night. Feeling guilty, she thought it must have been the cold wind... She suddenly felt a bit remorseful. "I'll make you some medicine to drink?"
She tried to get out of bed, but when she looked up, she accidentally kissed Steven's face.
They both froze.
Steven paused, his eyes filled with interest. "What's this? Craving my body first thing in the morning?"
Her face turned crimson. "No! I was going to make you some medicine."
"Do we have any cold medicine at home? I don't think we bought any?" Steven's hands were still on the bed, not letting her get up, his gaze warm, filled with unusual emotions.
