Chapter 36 Steven is Jealous
Clarence faxed over the documents.
In reality, York Development Group would never collaborate with Apex Technologies Corporation; it was just a ruse to keep them busy.
Yesterday, they harmed Nora, and today, Mr. York was giving them a taste of their own medicine.
Terry thought he was about to strike it rich and turned to Bianca. "Bianca, we've landed a huge deal! If we can partner with York Development Group, our company could make a quantum leap forward!"
With such a great order, he had no time for Bianca's minor issues.
He grabbed the quote sheet and hurried to Willie's office to brag.
He was spreading the news everywhere that he had secured an order from York Development Group!
Nora returned to her desk and said to Amelia, "We made fifty thousand dollars this time!"
A portion of it was Amelia's, so Nora transferred it to her.
Amelia, having earned three thousand dollars, beamed with joy. "This business is really lucrative. We should definitely network more if we get the chance."
"Absolutely!" Nora's eyes sparkled. "Dinner's on me tonight!"
"What are you guys talking about?" Philip asked, smiling as he made copies behind them.
Amelia replied, "We're deciding where to have dinner tonight."
Nora smiled at Philip. "Why don't you join us, Philip?"
This success was partly thanks to Philip, and Nora wasn't one to forget a favor. She wanted to properly thank everyone who helped.
After work, the three of them left the office.
It was drizzling outside.
Nora had forgotten her umbrella and said, "You two wait here. I'll go back upstairs to grab my umbrella."
Nora took the elevator back up. Their company never did overtime, so the office was empty as soon as work hours ended.
The overhead lights were off in one row. Nora walked in and saw that the light in Willie's office was on, with the blinds fully drawn and the sound of a woman laughing inside.
Was Willie back? And there was a woman's voice in his office?
Nora felt a knot in her stomach.
Could he be cheating on Olivia?
She didn't know why, but her legs felt weak. She controlled herself and quietly walked forward.
She reached the office door and peeked inside.
Hazel, holding a designer handbag, was clinging to Willie's neck and talking. "Thank you, Willie! I love the gift you brought me!"
Nora's blood felt like it had turned to ice.
Willie was holding Hazel by the waist and said indulgently, "As long as you like it."
"I love it so much!" Hazel said considerately. "Willie, did you get a gift for Olivia too?"
Willie was about to reply when he sensed someone outside the office. He shouted, "Who's there?"
Nora was startled and quickly moved towards her desk.
Willie released Hazel's hand and stepped out of the office, seeing Nora rummaging at her desk.
A flicker of guilt crossed his eyes. "Nora, what are you doing here?"
Nora's face remained calm. "Willie, I'm looking for my umbrella. It's raining outside, so I came back to get it."
Willie's gaze had a hint of scrutiny.
Nora's hands were actually shaking, but she said nothing. She grabbed her umbrella and smiled at Willie. "Found it."
"Be careful on your way home." Willie's eyes had a hint of deeper meaning.
It wasn't just Terry; Willie also thought Nora was beautiful, but he wouldn't make a move on her.
Hazel had pursued him.
Since Olivia got pregnant, they had been sleeping in separate rooms. Willie, feeling increasingly confident and successful, enjoyed the attention from women.
Nora's expression turned cold as she walked out of the company's doors.
Willie was having an affair with Hazel from the company. No wonder Hazel always targeted her!
When did this start?
Nora was filled with doubts. Now that Olivia was six months pregnant, she didn't know what to do. She was afraid Olivia couldn't handle the blow if she found out.
Olivia had gone through so much to get pregnant, taking numerous injections and meds. She even had a threatened miscarriage and severe morning sickness, spending her days lying in bed. It hadn't been easy for her, and yet Willie was cheating while she was pregnant!
Nora was still distracted while eating at the restaurant.
She typed several messages to Steven on Facebook but deleted them each time.
No, she needed evidence of Willie's affair with Hazel before telling Olivia to avoid making her more upset.
Halfway through the meal, Amelia received a call about a family issue and had to leave.
That left just Philip and Nora at the table.
At that moment, Steven and James walked into the restaurant.
They were there to meet a client and headed to the second floor.
James pointed downstairs. "Mr. York, Mrs. York!"
Steven looked down.
Nora was sitting by the window with Philip opposite her.
Steven's face turned cold.
What were they doing having dinner together?
Was she meeting another man while he wasn't home?
Philip handed Nora a glass of corn juice. "You promised to treat us, but you haven't eaten much yourself."
"Maybe I'm catching a cold. I don't have much of an appetite." Nora smiled at him.
"I'll order something light for you, easier to digest." Philip called the waiter. "Excuse me, can we get an order of mashed potatoes?"
Feeling someone's gaze on her, Nora looked up and met Steven's cold, expressionless eyes from the second floor.
Nora was puzzled and sent him a message on Facebook.
Nora: [Steven, what are you doing here? Meeting a client?]
Steven glanced at his phone but didn't reply. His gaze was colder than ice.
Nora felt increasingly uncomfortable.
Steven was looking at them as if they were having an affair.
Nora wanted to explain, but Steven had already walked away. When she tried to send him another message, she realized she had been blocked.
Steven was a man who was cold to the core.
In his world, people sought him out; he never sought out anyone.
Nora had blatantly made a fool of him.
Steven sneered.
Good job!
He thought she was head over heels for him and was willing to give her a chance. Turns out, she was just like the rest… Seeing that she was blocked, Nora felt a pang of sadness.
So cold!
He must really want a divorce.
"Nora, you haven't eaten anything tonight. Have some mashed potatoes." Philip placed the dish in front of her.
Nora snapped out of her thoughts. "Thanks."
She picked up the spoon and slowly started eating.
Philip watched her with gentle eyes but said nothing.
