Chapter 220 Nora Is in Trouble

Chapter 220 Nora Is in Trouble

Nora didn't expect Vivian to show up at her door like this.

Nobody likes being stalked, whether man or woman, but Vivian had taken it to a suffocating level.

Steven didn't like her, yet she remained stubbornly persistent.

Nora figured out that it would be good to talk with her—otherwise, who could stand her barging in every day like this?

She walked to the building's terrace to meet Vivian face-to-face.

Vivian pulled a lawyer's letter from her bag. "Take a look, Nora."

Nora opened it, confused.

The letter, issued in the Bennett Group's name, accused her of leaking the collaboration project between the Bennett Group and York Development Group, demanding five hundred million dollars in compensation and seven years in prison.

Nora said calmly, "I didn't do this."

"You didn't do it? Then how did five million dollars suddenly appear in your account?" Vivian said coldly. That card had been frozen as evidence.

Nora looked her straight in the eye. "Vivian, I didn't do it. I'm a victim too. Someone set me up."

"Victim or not, all the evidence points to you as the suspect. You have to accept the investigation."

She wasn't afraid of an investigation. But Vivian's eyes clearly had another purpose. Suppressing her anger, she said, "I'm giving you two choices—either leave Steven, or go to jail."

Vivian had reached her limit. She couldn't touch Steven, so she came after Nora.

Nora responded calmly, "Ms. Bennett, I didn't do this. You don't need to pin all the blame on me. I know you like my husband, but using these made-up reasons to force me to leave - isn't that pretty low?"

She couldn't afford to offend the Bennett Group, but she believed the investigators wouldn't just convict her randomly.

"Fine, I gave you a chance, and you didn't take it. Don't regret it later." Vivian sneered, grabbed her bag, and left.

Nora looked at the lawyer's letter, hesitated, then called Steven. "Steven, has the Bennett Group contacted you?"

"Contact me for what?" Steven was confused.

"Today, they sent me a lawyer's letter saying they're going to sue me for leaking the Bennett Group and York Development Group collaboration case."

Steven frowned, immediately guessing Vivian's purpose. He said in a low voice, "This won't touch you. Just do your work, I'll handle it."

"Okay." Nora said softly, "Will it be trouble for you?"

"No."

Nora smiled. "Honey, you're amazing."

Steven paused, realizing he'd just been flirted with, and laughed. "Save that line for the bedroom."

Nora blushed. "I'm being serious, what are you talking about?"

Seeing her flustered, Steven smiled. "I'm just joking."

"Okay." She held the phone, asking gently, "Was work tiring today? Are your cough and stomach better?"

"All fine now." Steven smiled, feeling light-hearted.

They chatted a bit more before hanging up.

Clarence came in with files, and Steven casually ordered, "Assign two people to protect Nora recently."

Clarence understood that Steven and Nora had made up. He didn't approve, but Steven seemed obsessed with her.

Clarence asked seriously, "Mr. York, have you considered telling Ms. Adams your real identity?"

If they were really going to be together, Clarence felt she should know about his situation.

Steven fell silent. He'd originally planned to tell her, but Nora had said that if he were the York family's second son, she would divorce him.

How could he bring it up?

The York family's internal complications - he didn't want her caught up in them.

He sighed deeply. This time, he was the one afraid of losing someone.

Nora returned to the company and had just opened the door when several police officers stopped her.

"Hello, which one of you is Nora?" The officer showed his badge.

Nora glanced at it, guessing it was Vivian's doing, and answered calmly, "That's me."

"Please come with us to help with an investigation."

Olivia came out hearing the commotion. "What's wrong?"

Nora looked at Olivia. "It's about Steven's company project. They need to ask me some questions. Olivia, you go home first. I'll go with them."

She followed the officers to the police station.

Walking in, she saw Vivian talking with a captain.

Nora's eyes instantly turned cold.

Vivian saw her too and walked over with a smile, whispering in her ear, "Nora, enjoy yourself."

Then she turned and left.

She'd already made arrangements with the captain to be harsh during Nora's interrogation, to teach her to "behave."

Nora's eyes narrowed as she was led into the interrogation room.

The captain and a female officer began questioning her.

Six o'clock in the evening.

Steven was in a meeting when his phone rang.

He glanced at it - it was Olivia calling.

He didn't answer the first time, but picked up the second time, pausing the meeting. "Hello, Olivia."

"Steven, did Nora do something wrong?" Olivia asked anxiously.

Steven's heart tightened, his brow furrowing. "What happened?"

"Some police officers took her away this afternoon. She hasn't come back yet, and her phone's not answering. I don't know how she is."

Steven frowned. "Olivia, don't worry. Let me check."

After hanging up, he dialed Nora's number. It rang, but no one answered.

His face darkened as he called Clarence. "Nora's been taken away. Find out which station she's at."

"Yes!" Clarence left.

Steven was distracted during the meeting.

Soon after, Clarence rushed back. "Ms. Adams is at the East District Station; they say she's helping investigate the Bennett Group and York Development Group project case."

A few questions, taking all afternoon? Something was wrong.

Steven's eyes flashed coldly. "Get the car ready."

Nora had been locked in the interrogation room all afternoon, her phone confiscated.

"Nora, how did five million dollars suddenly appear in your account? You'd better tell the truth." The captain asked again.

Nora's face was pale, her throat dry from talking too much without water.

She said quietly, "I told you, I'm a victim."

The captain didn't believe her. He leaned close, saying coldly, "Do you know what prison is like? Everyone in there has done something wrong. If you run into them, they might hurt you, break your bones... If you don't talk, I'll send you in tonight to get a taste."

Nora's pupils contracted. "I didn't do anything. Are you trying to force a confession?"

"The evidence is solid, and you're still denying it? I think you need to learn a lesson—"

Before he could finish, the door burst open. "Captain, Mr. Robbie Ellis wants to see you right now!"

"Coming." The captain glanced at her and slammed the table. "Stay put!"

Nora was left alone in the interrogation room.

She was thirsty, dizzy, feeling sick, lying on the table, exhausted.

"Mr. Ellis, you're here!" The captain walked out to see Chief Robbie and Clarence standing at the door.

Clarence said politely, "Mr. Ellis, I won't sit down. Please handle this matter. Our Mr. York is waiting outside."

Steven was waiting in the car.

Robbie's face was serious. He asked the captain, "Did you arrest a woman named Nora today?"

"Yes, Ms. Bennett from the Bennett Group reported the case." The captain answered.

Robbie gritted his teeth. "You didn't hurt her, did you?"

"No, just asked her some questions."

Robbie breathed a sigh of relief. "Quick, take me to see her."

Entering the interrogation room, Robbie asked respectfully, "Ms. Adams, are you okay?"

The captain looked confused - why was Robbie being so polite to a suspect?

Nora looked at him weakly, her voice hoarse. "I didn't do it. I'm a victim."

"I'm sorry, Ms. Adams. We handled this poorly." Robbie turned around. "Apologize to Ms. Adams now!"

The captain was stunned but could only say, "I'm sorry! Ms. Adams, I was too rough earlier."

Nora shook her head. "Can I go now?"

"Yes." Robbie personally helped her up.

He had the captain bring her water, returned her phone, and escorted her to the station entrance. "Ms. Adams, can you walk? Do you need help?"

"No need." Though weak, Nora could still walk.

She didn't understand why the station's attitude had suddenly changed - harsh in the afternoon, polite in the evening.

She walked out of the station shakily, almost falling, when two strong arms caught her firmly.

A familiar cool scent filled her nose.

Nora looked up to see that heart-stopping handsome face.

It was Steven.

She smiled slightly. "Honey, did you come to pick me up?"

"Yes." Steven looked at her, picked her up, his eyes cold as ice. "I'm taking you home."

Held in his arms, Nora's heart finally settled.

She'd actually been scared at the station - this was her first time in one.

She got nervous even when traffic cops stopped her, let alone being interrogated. That oppressive atmosphere was suffocating.
