Chapter 16 Nora Complains to Her Husband
Their eyes met, and they exchanged a silent understanding.
Nora lifted her chin at him, while Steven, with a blank expression, pointed at his phone.
They decided to chat on Facebook.
Nora: [What are you doing here?]
Steven: [What are you doing here?]
They messaged simultaneously.
Nora found it funny and replied: [I'm delivering some chips. What about you?]
Steven: [Business.]
That made sense, Nora thought. Steven was a high-powered executive, always traveling for work.
Vivian noticed them both glued to their phones and instinctively knew they were chatting.
She felt a pang of jealousy and sauntered back to the CEO's office. She deliberately sat on the couch close to Steven, crossing her long legs and flicking her wavy hair, striking a seductive pose. "Steven,"
Steven glanced at her, "What's up? Got a cramp?"
Vivian nearly lost her balance!
She was trying to flirt with him!
Nora saw them talking from outside and felt an unexpected pang of discomfort.
Even though she knew it was business, Vivian seemed a bit too attentive to Steven.
Luckily, Steven's expression remained cold, which reassured Nora.
Steven noticed Nora's gaze from outside. She was staring at them, her beautiful eyes full of scrutiny.
Steven felt quite pleased.
A slight smile tugged at his lips.
Nora complained on Facebook, even though she knew Steven might not reply.
Nora: [They've been checking ten trays of chips for half an hour and still haven't finished. They didn't even offer me a chair. This company's efficiency is terrible!]
Steven glanced at Facebook, imagining her frustrated look, wanting to vent but holding back.
He turned his head.
Nora paced outside, her high heels making her feet sore.
Steven frowned slightly and said to Vivian, "Is this your company's efficiency?"
"What?" Vivian was surprised, "What's wrong?"
"Taking half a day to check a few trays of chips?" Steven's stern gaze felt overwhelmingly oppressive.
Vivian was scared but curious. How did Steven know they were checking chips outside?
Could it be that the woman told Steven something on the phone?
Vivian felt a bit annoyed but maintained a smile, gently saying, "There are too many counterfeit goods on the market. We have to check thoroughly. Just yesterday, we found a batch of fakes and lost some money."
These days, no one does charity work. If something goes wrong, someone has to take responsibility. It's only natural.
Nora's feet grew increasingly sore as she paced the hallway.
Nora: [It's been an hour. I'm so bored and frustrated. I'm going crazy!]
Nora was so bored that she bombarded Steven with messages.
Steven didn't reply, but she didn't care. She was bored and wanted to bother Steven.
Nora: [Steven, why is your meeting taking so long?]
Steven read her message.
He had actually finished the meeting and signed the contract, but since Nora hadn't left, he couldn't leave either.
If he walked out, everyone would start calling Mr. York, and he'd be exposed.
"Is it done yet?" Steven coldly asked Vivian.
"What's done?"
"The chips outside. Are they done checking?" Steven's face was stern, clearly displeased.
Vivian didn't dare offend him, "I'll take care of it."
Vivian called Cindy on the internal line, urging her to speed things up.
Cindy got the call and quickly finished the inspection, signing off, "All done, you can go."
Nora took the receipt and breathed a sigh of relief as she left Aurora Tech.
She sent Steven a message: [Steven, the chips are checked. I'm heading back.]
Once she left, Steven walked out of the CEO's office.
Vivian smiled as she accompanied him.
He was an impressive figure from head to toe, and Vivian deeply admired him.
"Mr. York!" Everyone at Aurora Tech knew Steven was important and greeted him eagerly, their eyes filled with admiration.
This man was incredibly handsome!
All the women stared at him dreamily.
Steven ignored them as usual, but when he passed Cindy, he glanced at her. "What's your name?"
Cindy was thrilled, her eyelashes fluttering, and she excitedly said, "Hello, Mr. York. I'm Cindy!"
Her voice was soft, her heart racing!
Vivian watched from the side, her expression calm, but inside, she was furious, wanting to tear Cindy apart!
That bitch dared to flirt with her man!
"Cindy," Steven murmured her name, smiled slightly, and left Aurora Tech.
After he left, Vivian found an excuse to scold Cindy, yelling at her in the office for a full half hour!
Nora left Aurora Tech and stood in the hallway waiting for the elevator.
Harman Tower had over 60 floors, and the elevators were hard to catch.
She waited for ten minutes, and when an elevator arrived, it was full, so she had to keep waiting.
Her feet felt like they were being gnawed by thousands of ants.
Nora bent down to rub them.
"Mr. York, it's Mrs. York." James said to Steven as they rounded the corner.
"I know." Steven glanced at the nearby hallway, "You should take the elevator from the floor below."
James fell silent, thinking, "I shouldn't have said anything."
"Why are you still here?" Steven strode over to Nora.
Nora turned to look at him, "Did you finish your business?"
"Finished."
"Was it successful?"
"Successful." This deal was more beneficial for the Bennett family.
But Nora was smiling so happily, Steven's success meant a job well done. Nora's eyes sparkled as she said, "I'm glad it worked out!"
Steven stared at her, "Are you that happy?"
"Wouldn't you be happy if the deal worked out?" Nora thought Steven was odd. Who wouldn't be happy about a successful deal?
Why did he seem so indifferent?
She rubbed her legs.
Steven noticed and reached out to massage them, "Your legs sore?"
Nora stiffened at his touch.
Suddenly, massaging her legs made her uncomfortable.
"...A bit sore." Nora's voice lowered, feeling uneasy.
The elevator arrived, with seven or eight people inside.
They stepped in.
At first, it was normal, but on the next floor, ten more people crowded in, making the elevator cramped.
Steven pulled Nora into his arms, pressing her against the elevator wall, worried she might be harassed in the crowded space.
Nora leaned against the wall, feeling uncomfortable.
Steven was pressed tightly against her back, their bodies completely touching in the confined space, creating a strange, intimate atmosphere.
She could even hear Steven's heartbeat.
