Epilogue: The Promise of Sisterhood
Epilogue: The Promise of Sisterhood
Mirage’s P.O.V
“Now that everything important has been done and dealt with…are we going to talk about how you deserted us all and went your merry way or are we just going to pretend that you didn’t just act like a major bitch?”
Sarah almost spat out her morning coffee while Darcia, Cameron and Alex jumped up from the table and disappeared out the door like little traitors, leaving me to deal with Freya’s wrath all alone.
It was a week after my dad had gone away to the Autumn Court with my grandmother and a day since my sister left with her mate for Alaska, with a promise to visit as often as she could.
But now that everything was done and dusted…it came time to face the hardest part.
Freya and Sarah. The two women who had come to mean more than family to me. And the two women who I abandoned and hid information from as I went with Alistair, with the thought that I might never see them again.
For Freya…the betrayal was even deeper, especially because I would’ve never been able to control my magic or be able to break the seal if it weren’t for her. I had never ever imagined that the very woman that I had hated at first sight, would once day come to mean more than a sister to me.
Which was why…saying sorry wasn’t going to count. It was too insignificant a word for the way I had hurt her.
“We c-could…always…just…you know…let it go?” I offered like a complete idiot, waiting for her to at least give me a smile.
But when the flower pot from the table behind us bounced up into the air at least seven feet and then crashed on to the floor with a loud noise…I knew that I had screwed up majorly.
“Freya,” Sarah gave her a weary look. “You’re scaring the poor kid.”
“Does she look like a ‘kid’ to you?” She snapped at Sarah before turning towards me sharply. “And don’t even dare think about using Julian to get out of the situation.”
I blinked…several times. I know that I helped save Julian’s life…but…“I wasn’t going to use that!” I snapped at her. “Do you seriously think so low of me?”
“I thought of you as a friend, a sister.” Freya said, her voice completely devoid of emotions. “Clearly I was mistaken.”
“Of course not, Freya!” I told her immediately. “All my life, I had always had to be the big sister to Maze. I had always been hiding her mistakes and her faults…but ever since I arrived at the pack…I had always looked up at you as my older sister. Both you and Sarah. I know we got off on the wrong foot and I thought of you as a bully at first…but as I got to know you, I realized just how much you and I are alike and I had never liked you more. I swear I always thought of you as my sister, Freya.”
Freya gave me a suspicious look, still not believing me.
“You and I both know that I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you,” reaching across the table, I took her hands in mine, holding onto them tightly. “You helped me even when I hated you. You kept on showing me the right track. You helped me regain my memories, you challenged me at every turn when others tried to skirt around a subject! You broke my seal and you were always coming up with solutions to my problems, guiding me in your own special way.”
I turned to Sarah. “Both Freya and you. You guys are literally the reason I was able to come so far in life after everything I been though. And for that, I would always be thankful to the both of you.”
“We don’t want you to be thankful, Mirage,” Sarah placed her hands on top of mine that were resting on top of Freya’s. “We want you to be careful…to stay safe. Honestly…anger wasn’t the first thing on our mind when we found you missing , Mirage. We were worried sick.”
“As for Freya,” Sarah gave her a sheepish look. “She was the most worried. Especially since she couldn’t go with the rescue team because she was looking after Julian.”
“I’m not sugarcoating shit this time.” Freya snapped at the two of us. “I’m done with her if she’s going to keep acting like a spoilt brat over and over again. First with Krimson and now she just up and ran off, thinking she could take down the big, bad vampire on her own just because she could use her powers.”
Freya was deliberately trying to hurt me, I understood that. But I also understood that for her to be so angry, she must have to be equally hurt as well…and worried. Like Sarah said, she had been worried the most the day I disappeared. And that too without telling her a proper goodbye…because in reality, I knew I couldn’t. I couldn’t never say goodbye to her.
So now, I got up from my chair and went straight to Freya and hugged her tightly from behind.
“I’m so, so sorry.” I whispered, burying my face at the crook of her neck. “I promise that I will never again hide anything from you, ever again. If something bothers me. You’ll be the first to know. You’re my family now. And I will do anything to make my family happy.”
“Then let’s make a promise of sisterhood.” Freya said quietly.
I raised my head and let go of her so I could stand next to her.
“Sarah and I are already Moon Kissed sisters, but let’s make a pact among the three of us,” she told us. “No magic, nothing fancy. Just a promise to be sisters in this life and to always love and protect each other and keep each other’s secrets, just like real sisters do.”
“Now that sounds like my kind of bond,” Sarah smirked up at me. “You in?”
“Definitely!” I grinned. “Where do I sign up?”
“Just with a group hug.”
And then the three of us hugged in the middle of the dining room, like we hadn't just been at the drink of being murdered by Freya a second ago. Well…I was, Sarah was never in any danger.
“You girls sorted things out yet?” Cameron asked, as he parted the dining room door just enough so his voice could reach us. The other two stayed behind him wearily. “We’re…kinda hungry…”
“Yes, we’re fine.” Sarah said like there had never been a problem in the first place. “Why are you boys hiding?”
“Hiding? Us?” The three of them gave a nervous laugh as they came inside one by one. “Nah…we just had a…emergency meeting.”
“Alright. Cool.” The three of us girls clinked our glasses and the boys paused.
“Shit.” Darcia cursed. “They made some kind of Devil’s pact, didn’t they?”
Oh…they had no idea. Three…was way better than one.
