Chapter 170: Recovery

Chapter 170: Recovery
Krimson’s P.O.V

I woke up to the pale light filtering through the hospital room, the faint beeping of monitors sounding in the background. My vision was hazy at first, the events leading up to this moment a jumbled mess in my mind.

As I blinked and slowly tried to focus, the first thing that became clear was Lilac's form, peacefully asleep in a chair next to my bed. Relief washed over me as memories flooded back, fragments piecing together into a coherent narrative.

"Lilac," I whispered softly, my voice hoarse from disuse. She stirred slightly, a faint flutter of eyelashes against her cheeks, but she remained deep in slumber. The sight of her there, unwavering by my side, despite everything that had transpired, filled me with an inexplicable warmth.

I couldn't help but recall the chaos of that night—the confrontation, the whirlwind of emotions, and then the blankness as consciousness slipped away from me. But here I was, waking up to her steadfast presence. It meant more than words could express.

Before I could gather my thoughts further, the door creaked open, and Luca stepped into the room. His expression was a mixture of relief and concern, his eyes locking onto mine as he approached.

"Krimson! You're finally awake," Luca exclaimed, his voice a mixture of relief and cheer. "How are you feeling?"

"I've been better," I managed a weak smile, trying to sit up a little straighter in the bed. "What happened? How long have I been out?"

Luca pulled up a chair, taking a seat beside me. "You've been unconscious for a week. It was touch and go for a while there, but you're a fighter."

My gaze flickered back to Lilac, still sound asleep. "She's been here this whole time?"

Luca nodded. "Every single moment. She refused to leave your side, insisted on staying here, keeping watch over you."

A surge of gratitude welled up within me, accompanied by a wave of emotions difficult to articulate. "I don't know what to say..."

"You don't have to say anything," Luca said gently, placing a hand on my shoulder. "She cares about you a lot, Krimson. It's evident in the way she's been here, day in and day out."

I nodded, my throat tightening with emotion. "I owe her so much."

"You owe her your recovery," Luca added with a knowing smile. "She's been talking to you, you know, even though you couldn't respond. It's like she was willing to give you back to us."

I glanced at Lilac again, a newfound appreciation blossoming within me for her unwavering support.

"I'll have to thank her properly when she wakes up."

Luca stood, patting my shoulder lightly. "You'll get your chance. Just focus on getting better for now. We've got your back."

As Luca left the room, I settled back against the pillows, a sense of determination settling over me. With Lilac's steadfast presence and Luca's reassurance, I knew I had the strength to recover. And when Lilac finally stirred awake, I'd make sure she knew just how much her presence meant to me.

A stir nearby caught my attention, and I turned my gaze to see Lilac awakening. Her eyes fluttered open, blinking against the harsh hospital light, and as they met mine, I saw a mix of emotions—relief, worry, and a hint of something else, something deeper.

"Krimson, you're awake," Lilac's voice was soft, filled with a blend of emotions she couldn't quite hide. "How are you feeling?"

I attempted to speak, but my parched throat protested, and all I managed was a weak croak. Lilac reached for a glass of water on the bedside table, holding it to my lips as I took small, grateful sips.

"Thank you," I managed to murmur, the simple gesture bringing a sense of comfort amidst the chaos of my thoughts.

"You scared us, you know," Lilac said, her voice tinged with emotion. "When we brought you in... it was like time had stopped."

I tried to piece together the moments before I found myself in this hospital bed. Flashes of memory surfaced—the confrontation, the dagger, and then... darkness. The thought sent a shiver down my spine.

"I'm sorry," I whispered, the weight of those two words heavy with meaning. "I didn't mean to worry anyone."

Lilac's expression softened, and she shook her head gently. "You don't need to apologize. Just focus on recovering. You're lucky to be alive."

The room fell into a comfortable silence, Lilac's presence a reassuring anchor amidst the whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. As I tried to gather my strength and piece together the events that led me here, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the unwavering support of those around me.

"Lilac, I... I've been foolish," I began, my voice wavering slightly as I struggled to put into words the turmoil that had plagued me for so long.

"I let my own confusion cloud everything, hurt you, and hurt myself in the process but it was never hatred, never disdain that I held for you. It was my own battle, a conflict I couldn't understand."

She looked at me, her gaze searching mine as if trying to unravel the depths of my sincerity.

"Krimson, I know," she whispered softly, her voice carrying a mix of understanding and compassion. "I understand your feeling now that I know about Harmona…and I don’t blame you for anything anymore. It wasn't easy for either of us…but I guess I paid for the mistakes of my father…for the cruel death Harmona suffered at his hands."

She looked up at me, her eyes shining with sincere understanding. “I don’t hate you either, Krimson. I guess…we were both stuck in a past we couldn’t move on from. And knowing that I might be Harmona’s reincarnation…I know how difficult it must have been for you knowing that I was the sister of your first beloved mate.”

The weight lifted off my chest a little, her acknowledgment offering a sliver of solace.
